To splurge or not to splurge

Congrats on the surgery date! I had a tough time following the preop diet. All I could think about was yhe food I would probably never get to eat again. If you're EXTREMELY heavy with a bmi over 40...they recommend it to shrink the liver so complications during surgery are less likely. Its also good to get into a routine for after surgery. I splurged...had my favorite meal and lots of it. There is nothing wrong with that...im glad i did it. Just get it out of your system as quickly as possible and set a goal and get prepared. Also...use this time yo get used to your Protein shakes. Learn to love them. That and Water will need to be your best friends for the two weeks post op! Good luck girl, have that last supper!
  2. Yea it didnt hurt me a bit...i wouldnt use the word 'incredible' to describe it though. More like 'weird' Feel like a new woman today, especially after I had that thing removed!
  3. Oh and i meant to say, YOU GO GIRL!!!

Congrats!! I remember how happy I was...jumping and dancing all around!
  5. Shew i know i fully expect it. Gonna take a pain pill in a second...was just curious if it was worse than im thinking lol. Congrats to you too! Trying my best not to have too many expectations. As soon as i heal..ready to get active and just to live and enjoy life!
  6. Ah ok. How bad was it....having it pulled. They are pulling mine out this morning.
  7. That stinks. Are you having to bandage it up constantly?
  8. Glad you are feeling good! I just started taking gas x today...how often did you take it and for about how long?
  9. Man that is something to look forward to! Thank you for the info and im glad you are feeling better. Im SO ready to feel normal again.
  10. Thanks everyone for the helpful comments. Spoke with my doc and he said to drink way more fluids than ive been drinking and to walk a lot. I knew that but the pain meds have been making me very sleepy. I might get my drainage tube out tomorrow instead of friday. I feel that the tube is one thing holding me back a bit...i HATE it. Im getting bored out of my mind staying at home...mom is taking me to the mall today. Other than smelling lots of food, im pumped to get out. I am having less and less pain where my stomach was removed...mostly horrible gas pain. Doc said the more i walk the better i feel. I have an office job so it shouldnt be a huge deal...i just dont want to be in pain the whole time and pop pain meds all day.
  11. I am feeling the exact same way right now. I am 4 days post op but am commited to only liquids for 2 weeks. But i am thirsty and can really take in the liquid! Anyone else been through this and if do...how are you doing now?

    Finally got a date 04-24-2013

Your welcome Erica:-) The inly surgery I had before this was a tonsilectomy. This was pretty new for me as well. It's painfull...not going to lie. But the real intense pain didnt last very long. I am now 4 days post op and my only real complaint is gas pain in my left shoulder...and my back pain. It's bareable though. Biggest help for the pain in the hospital was to walk walk walk!! Helps get rid of the gas pressure and really helps you heal quicker. After talking to a lot of these post op ppl...i was desperate to start walking. I started the day of my surgery and every 2 hours following. You gotta muster through the pain to do it. Also its way better to sit in a recliner or just sit up so it doesnt make standing up as painful. This info im giving you was also given to me. Its made my recovery very bareable!

Do a TON of research! Find a protein shake that you really like and get prepared with your vitamins, how much protein you need to consume, and your liquids. Have everything ready. Get accustomed to your protein shakes way BEFORE your surgery date. Be ahead of the game. Expect it to be painful...but be optimistic. I am 3 days post op and my biggest complaint is gas pain in my left shoulder. Write in a journal...prepare to be hungry...because this surgery isn't going to take that away completely. It's an aide. I am reading a book now about how to control emotional hunger. Just be as prepared as possible...talk to people frequently who had the surgery. I feel that i am a step ahead because i did this. If you want a support buddy...im here!

    Any March 19 sleevers?

Fortunately, I'm not having trouble with the fluids. I am crushing up ice with water...mixing it with crystal lite and using a spoon to dip out of ice and liquid. It keeps me from sipping too fast and its more like a slushy. I love my protein shakes! Already got in my 60grams of protein for the day. I drink Premier Protein from Sams/Costco. Inexpensive and taste really good. Try different things...and always sip sip sip! I know that feeling too...stomach just churns when you consume anything too fast! Please let me know how this works out for yall!

    Hungry

I don't understand why 'getting hungry' is a feeling that everyone is surprised they still have? It should definitely be suppressed, of course. All of the research I have done, I have found that most people still do get hungry. We cannot expect to have this surgery and think we will never be hungry again. I am fully expecting it to happen...I am sure it is going to be a new challenge. I will have my surgery on March 22nd, and I have to say that reading all of this is really helpful for me in so many ways. I am really appreciative that we have this outlet when things have gone awry:)
  18. Howdy:-) Ok so the big day is almost here...I haven't been nervous about it until now. Im 28...about 275 with no real medical problems and my surgery is on March 22nd. I just made the decision to go with the vertical sleeve vs the lap band. This is going to sound SILLY...but one of my real worries is how long it will be post op before i can return to my office job. I hate missing work but I have 10 days total off. Is there anyone out there that is/has been in a similar situation as mine? Thanks for any help...Im sure ill have more questions!
