Hi there, been a while since I checked in! Things are going well, I had my 3 month post op appointment yesterday I am down 70 pounds, the doctor and nutritionist are very happy with my progress and say I am right on track. I was worried that the weight is coming off a bit quick, she reassured me that I am right where I need to be. I feel like a completely different person, my energy levels are off the charts, I can go from 6AM until 10PM, I am going to work, working out and currently taking a certification course at the local college. I wish I had done this years ago, I regret wasting the time I have.. I hope everyone else is doing well.

lol hijacked..
Thanks ladies, I am getting my Protein and Vitamins in, maybe I am not chewing enough. I will be more aware of my chewing habits, and work on my abc's in the process.
Good luck to the upcoming surgery too, I was scared to death right up until they injected me.. You will be glad you did it.

Tomorrow will officially be 6 weeks, while I have lost 50 pounds and I am going to the gym every day. I am still unable to successfully say I have moved into the second phase. I can tolerate some things, ie tuna, eggs. I have tried chicken and turkey with less success, I also made a chili recipe from a bariatric cookbook, and I feel queasy after I eat that. (I used ground turkey)
Most mornings I eat cream of wheat or greek yogurt, and for lunch I mostly have Soup or broth.. Same for dinner.< /p>
Is this relatively normal?
It feels like most stuff sits in my chest when I eat, am I still not eating slow enough? How long do you take between bites? How long do you chew?

Good afternoon, I have my first follow up appt today. Knock on wood, the only issues I have had thus far is elevated blood pressure which was fixed by a medication adjustment also ever since I had my surgery my blood sugar has been pretty low, this morning it was 69 I will speak to the doc about this today. I hope you're all doing well!

Our surgeons sound similar.. He was very verbal about the straws.. He also told me no gum either. His reasoning is straws are a way to take extra air in while you are swallowing, air = no good for us.

Surgery went well on Thursday, came home last night. I have been walking and drinking tons of Water. Pretty uncomfortable is the gas pain, I am hoping that begins to subside today.

Was the open RNY your choice or were there circumstances involved?

Well, I was scheduled for Jan 20th... Got a call yesterday, the hospital where I am having my surgery is closing its ORs for MLKs birthday, doctor says that is rather unusual and in the years past the rooms have been open. Anyway 9 more days until I have to start my pre op diet as opposed to today, that is one plus anyway.

That makes 3 of us on the 20th, unless I've missed any!
Mine is Jan 20th!! So excited & nervous.

While the mindset I have on food consumption has changed greatly over the past year, I still want one last hurrah. I live on the Water and seafood is a staple. I know I am going to have to start my liver shrinking diet on January 7th, but the weekend before I think I am going to go out and order a softball sized crab cake, even if I can only get half of it down.
Do you have a last meal you are going to eat before you start your pre op?

I'm getting there, I have Vitamins and various Protein liquid on order. I am sooo ready. I have also been periodically drinking Protein Shakes in preparation. What hospital will you be having your surgery in?

I am scheduled for surgery on Monday January 20th in Baltimore. Are you as nervous/excited as I am?

So congratulations to the 2 of you with dates!
I attended a seminar last Thursday night up in Rockville with Dr. Barry Green. I am left with a lot of questions even asking several myself.
I had no idea that forever you will only be able to sip liquid in 1 ounce increments every couple minutes nor that you will have to cut your food up into almost infant like size and take a bite every couple minutes as well. Are these extreme directives or will it vary from person to person?
Why do we choose lapband over bypass? As odd as this sounds I think I might be more confused than I was thursday morning.
And chimboree, maybe we will meet sometime!

I am predisposed to flipping out over stuff like this, is this typical.. <--- that would be aimed at the old pros...I have weird leg cramps though. Any else had something of the like? I was told to walk a lot right away, but maybe I over did it? -
Thanks for the welcomes and responses. I have so many questions, but I know how forums work. I'm sure all of my questions have been asked and answered a zillion times. I'll do some searches before I go all "hog" wild on the questions...

Good morning, it has been quite a while since I have checked in. I hope you are all doing well. I am about 10 pounds away from goal weight. I will try to get a picture up some time today. That blob in the upper left hand corner is gone. :-)
