How do I ask my doctor?

How do I ask my doctor?

You TELL the PCP, you don't ask. It's your body and your decision. Opinions and or support are one thing, but it's not up to them. They can be on board and help or just keep any negativity to themselves. If they can't, go elsewhere.
  3. So, your question is basically......Is the sleeve still necessary down the road after the weight loss. Answer: For me...... Definitely. I simply had a birth defect corrected. My big stomach. Even after developing the new habits.......measuring, Protein, fluids, exercise, blah blah blah.......and sticking to a rigid plan all during the loss period......I found all the benefits of the sleeve's honeymoon period faded with time and many old issues returned. Hunger, sweet taste, carb desire, grazing, and laziness with the exercise. All making the need for the sleeve's "restriction" even more important. The things that started me on the path to becoming obese didn't magically vanish. And because of the volume of my stomach, portion control was always my nemesis. But I feel confident that I can keep it in check now, because my body has been corrected to what was needed for my normal. My normal needed a correct size stomach to offset all of my other body's functions. Same as people are different heights and have different color eyes or hair, I have a different size stomach. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    How long is surgery?

You certainly won't be aware or care......you're gonna start counting backwards and then, in what seems like just a few seconds, you're awake in recovery........wanting pretty much just to keep napping.
  5. Actually 1% would be 2 lbs at 200lbs not 4 lbs. You would not consider the total range on either side of 200lbs as a 1% variant. That would be 2%. But I digress. Even more important, is the scales accuracy. I have calibrated several my scales using the known weight of water/gallon and my present scale at 200 lbs was off by 10.2 lbs. (reading over of course) And it was not adjustable. Mechanical devices are typically inaccurate. As a pilot we have become accustomed to reading instruments that have correction cards showing the instruments corrections based on calibrations. It really isn't that big a deal regarding a persons weight.......so I put it here as just food for thought.

    3 days post op HUNGRY

3 days??? Ritz crackers???? Did you actually question "Bad idea????"........ What do you want from us.....?? fairy dust and a magic wand. You had your surgery. You got your instructions. Follow them or not, it's up to you. But don't look for others to enable you when asking stupid questions and whining.

    Taste buds

Take advantage of all you can while you can........ Everything comes back (including the bad stuff) and you need to have your new habits firmly ingrained to be able to control it.

    Flying

4 hours is a long time to sit......Make sure you get up and move around a little to avoid DVTs. Maybe wear some compression knee high socks.

    5 days

good job.....ya can't get in too much liquid or Protein. The more, the better.
  14. If your gonna drink, you might as well get in your Protein while you're at it. I drink Isopure Zero Carb drinks. They are very high in protein and help to get in my daily Fluid intake too.
  15. First let's get one thing clear. A failed surgery would be an immediate issue. As in a "leak" or hemorrhage or some other medical issue. And would require your Surgeon to correct. What you describe, is YOU failing to do your part. And to successfully lose all the weight you want will require you to follow a very rigid plan. If you don't, it will be you that fails, not the surgery. Everyone here is explaining the basics to you again, which you have either forgotten quickly or have chosen to ignore. My suggestion is to pay very close attention and get back on track. You need to learn new habits and stick with them forever to be successful. Stop challenging your sleeve to see if you can defeat it. You can do this right. This is your wake up call.....don't blow it. Good luck.
  16. Relax, the surgery was the starting gate for me. And it wasn't that difficult to make all the needed adjustments then. Don't fret the waiting period.
  17. You're over thinking it........get the surgery and figure it out later. You'll do fine.

    Protein shakes

The docs make enough dough, I'm not adding to their Mercedes payment by buying anything that comes out of their office. They are supposed to be doctors, not retail salesmen. Protein is protein. Get whatever shakes you like elsewhere. And tell the doc to stick to doctoring. I got my shakes from costco and they worked just fine for me. Tasted great, lots of protein and a whole lot cheaper.
  19. I do my own due diligence. I don't need anyone else feeling they have any right to intervene. My solution is simple. If my PCP was not on board or expressed any negativity, I'd drop him and get one that is more in line with my choices. Done.

    New- couple questions

I usually only follow my one rule......get the Protein in. If I have room and haven't gone over my calorie count for the day.....then whatever I choose can follow.....

    Scale Hasn't Budged!

I second the stool softeners.......but not for weight loss...... whatever you do....don't wait until your bound up......or it will make you welcome death. Really.....all things considered....make SURE you stay regular. Use the stool softeners and keep some Magnesium Citrate on hand just in case.

    Scale Hasn't Budged!

The scale is just broken.....!!!! Well....maybe not really....but relax. The science is still there. If you follow the plan the math will play out. X number of calories in and Y number burned....equals Z number of pounds lost. Minus a couple of Water retention hiccups along the way. You'll lose.....and it will start to come off fast. And it will be noticeable. You didn't put it on overnight and the body is just trying to defend you by hanging on to all it can for now. Get moving doing exercise and motivate the muscle to build while burning away the fat. You'll feel it and see it in how your clothes fit. Sure, check the scale from time to time....but don't rely on it too much.....Following the plan will get you there in the long run. Read old posts here.....your question is probably the most asked one on here. And all those that asked it went on to reach their goals. YOU will too. Keep it up .....

    Yikes! Arm Flab

Exercises probably won't do much. There is a procedure called brachioplasty, however I have heard from others it can leave some unsightly scars. Either way, you have plenty of time to check into it, because you need to wait quite a while after you stabilize you weight loss to have it done. There are some new procedures surfacing now that are being done that eliminates most of the scars. Take you time and check into it thoroughly.

    Is my pain normal? Help?

Red hot knife pain is definitely a Doc issue. Call your doc and if you're not satisfied with his answer, get a second opinion. Like in go to the ER and get it checked out. Better to be sure.
