  1. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I'm in Mexico now. Staying at the Marriott in Tijuana. So far, so good. Victor the driver is really nice and a pretty funny guy. The hotel is nice. Pretty standard Marriott as any other. It did take two calls before anyone brought any bottled Water to the room but that's VERY minor. We get started at 6:40a so I'm about to get some rest. Please pray for me and the surgeons. I will update everyone as soon as I can after recovery.

  2. I used them and loved them, the nurses will take such good bare of you.

    Thank you so much!

How has your recovery been? What was your experience like there and with those particular docs?

I am traveling alone and a little anxious. Especially since I've NEVER been outside of the US.

Do you think it would be too difficult to return to work a week post-op for an office based job?

I can't get a lot of time off right now...

  3. Haha normally people reply so fast on here.... It looks like its just me and you on the 15th. My surgeon is Dr. F. Garcia. I've heard that MI Doctor isn't a very big hospital though, so we'll probably bump into each other walking the halls over and over. My grandmother is going with me, so I'm sure you'll see her around as well. She was sleeved here in the states in September and has now lost 65lbs.

    Can't wait to meet you!

  4. Xavier girl, I'm also going alone. Don't worry. I've been to Tijuana before and it's not that different from the USA. PLUS, your driver will be taking you everywhere you need to go so you don't have to concern yourself with getting lost or anything! Also the places you'll be staying (marriott/midoctor) are used to catering to Americans!

I'm taking packing light and taking:

    gasx strips

    colace

    stimulant laxative (JUST IN CASE)

Anti diarrhea medication (JUST in case)

    Vitamins

    acid reducer

    Protein powder

    sugar free drink powder mixes

    bandages

    peroxide

    ear plugs

    computer

    phone

    passport

comfy clothes(a few pairs of sweats, enough undies some t shirts.. I'll travel in something comfortable but semi-nice and just wear the same outfit coming and going)

all the normal personal hygene products

    slippers

there is also a pharmacy very close to the hotel and you can get anything you've forgotten there.

Please don't be nervous about Tijuana, it's quite safe and we're going to be in a good part of the city. There ARE areas there you won't want to go to...just like there are areas in every American city that should be avoided. It's not really so different.

Thank you so much for the info!

My famiy is extermely unsupportive of me and are still trying to convince me not to go and just find a doc in the US. But no one is willing to pay for the extra thousands it will cost me to have surgery in the states. I just can't afford to pay a lot more being a single mom. They are really discouraging me and my mom is even going so far as to say that she won't keep my daughter while I am gone. No one else can keep her...she knows this.

its really making me sad at this point. they will definitely

  5. So I've been reading posts on this forum for months now and am just getting around to setting up an account. I am currently scheduled for surgery on March 15th with Drs. Cabrera and Valenzuela at Mi Doctor Hospital in Tijuana, MX through Mexico Bariatrics. I am mostly nervous right now because I am planning to travel alone and it doesn't help that I have a pretty unsupportive family. My mother has told me I'm selfish for not thinking about the fact that I could die from having this surgery and my beautiful 22 mth old baby girl would have to grow up without her mother (I'm a single mother). My dad has told me I just need to exercise and that weight loss surgery is crazy and the easy way out. My sister doesnt think it makes sense for me to go to Mexico for surgery and especially not by myself but I don't have much of a choice. No one is available to go with me and my insurance will not cover it in the states. At this point, I really just need a bit of encouragement, guidance, prayers, a buddy, something!

What should I pack? Has anyone had surgery with these docs? Any complications? I'm planning to travel in on Thursday. Scheduled for surgery on Friday. Return home on Monday. Back to work on Wednesday. Is that enough time? I can't take off work any longer than that right now. Will I be able to hug/lift my daughter after surgery? What is post op recovery like? Anything in particular I need to be prepared for traveling alone....this is my first time ever going out of the country. \
