  1. oh my goodness..... I pray for something.... anything....
  2. Good husband! Sooooo sorry it happened! I had my gallbladder out and have had a form of dumping from that, but never to that extreme. Hopefully it never EVER happens again! On the other hand you paint a very vivid and somewhat comical picture.

    The Wait.....

I just emailed my patient navigator "hi, don't want to but you.... Did you recieve my physicians note from yesterday and out of curiosity how do you send my information along" Luckily she is a patient of my surgeon and has been through the process and is very patient with my questions. She replied right back said she had not received it yet but she would let me know and they send it via fax. That was just a curiosity question.
  4. Three(ish) weeks seems so insignificant, and I am going to try my hardest not to dwell on the time but I am very excited because I had my 6th appointment for my 6 month physician supervised weight loss program. It has been a long six months, and yet and it has flown by! It takes around a week for them to get my paper work submitted, and about a two week turn around. I met my surgeons goals, I have read every book, and watched every documentary that has been thrown at me. I have been actively involved in different forums, and support groups within my community. I don't feel there is anything more I could have done. I hope the insurance company sees my diligence and feels the same way!
  5. I had a group of teenage boys pull up next to me at a light a few years ago and I was quite a bit thinner and they started mooing at me. It really hurt my feelings, and when I told my brother he was prepared to go track them down and beat them..... My friend was just telling me earlier that a 16yo boy that goes to the same dance studio as our kids was having a conversation with someone and then made an offhand comment like "you know fat people.... like ______" and it was her name and she was standing a couple feet away. She said she turned and said "OMG I am fat?!? Why didn't anyone tell me" using humor to act like it didn't hurt, when it really did.

    Adjusting to a new body

I am pre-op but I read a book that talks about this very thing with bariatric surgery. It's by Jen Larsen and it is called "Stranger Here: How weight loss surgery transformed my body and messed with my head" http://jenlarsen.net/stranger-here/ Here is her website. I am happy to hear that you are contacting someone, and I do believe it is quite normal. I hope you find clarity in this journey!
  7. Mine is the same as Catherine707. Apparently I don't get anything.... No ice, no swabs, I am apparently not even allowed to have chapstick and no one who comes into my room is allowed to have anything, not even a bottle of water. I was told the reasoning was, they don't want anything triggering gastric juices, they just want the stomach to rest for 24 hours. The practice has never had a leak so I will follow their rules.

    Sleeve in August

I am crossing fingers for Aug 12th. My paper work gets submitted this next week, and approx a 2 week turn around.
  9. Possibly, is the urine dark? It can also be medication, or something in the protein shakes you are drinking. I have an allergy medication that makes my urine smell, Anything with Guaifenesin makes my urine smell. Asparagus makes my urine smell, I am very sensitive to urine smell apparently he he. Shoot for your 64oz the best you can, watch your urine color and plug your nose for now :-)
  10. I know someone who claims to have naturally lost their weight utilizing a weight loss supplement, and in turn has created this large following of people who purchase supplements from them (its a husband and wife team I only know for a fact that the husband has had bypass but I really think she probably has too) Anyway they have made money off of people buying these supplements to get the same results and even won a car and trips through the company. I know he has had the surgery because first it was posted briefly on his FB but he deleted it shortly after it was posted. He uses the same surgeon as me, and has attended the same weight loss support group as me (when the monthly e mail goes out him and his wife are always in the list of people it is sent too. When confronted he claims he just had a liver biopsy and that was it. It frustrates me and because of him I decided early on that once I have the surgery and get past the first few months that I will be completely honest. I want to get thru the application and approval process and actual surgery before I tell those other than the ones I am close too.
  11. My surgeon and nutritionist said the magic words to me that made me decide that no matter what I will be very strict to their rules "We are very aggressive with our post op instructions, including post surgery stay in the hospital, post op diet, plus more..... the reason is we have never had a leak or major complication and we don't plan on starting now" I figure why take the chance. I am changing my eating habits now, 8 weeks(ish) pre op, I don't want to look back in 6 months and regret that I didn't make the changes and hit the goals I desire so badly. I graduate this next year and I want to feel awesome walking across that stage..... I was inducted into the International Nursing Honor Society a few months ago and looked at the pictures after, and I was very embarrassed.
  12. Well..... Rather than being rude I will tell you.... Good for you in your work towards this! Secondly I am in Colorado but I do know that some others in my support group who have gone through Colorado Medicaid have heard something in just about 14 days. How long is "forever"? Are you sure you know the right submission date? Just wondering if it took your surgeons office longer to submit the paperwork than what you are aware of? Have you asked them the general turn around time from your particular insurance? Good Luck! Looking forward to your acceptance post!
  13. Some of mine were: How many surgeries, complication rate, Laparoscopic to open rate (How many times he has started laparoscopically and had to turn it into a full surgery), mortality rate, recommended vitamins, the weight loss he would expect from me, any recommended readings, websites, educational information etc...
  14. http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Stuck-Ring The "Dental Floss Method" Is what they did in the ER.
  15. They have tricks to getting them off. I saw a guy get bit on his hand by a dog, he hadn't taken his ring off in 15 plus years, and the laceration was on the same finger as his ring. His finger was very swollen and they got it off without cutting it off.
  16. Just curious what came of this?

    Coconut water?

Too much of it can be too much of a good thing! It has laxative properties.
  18. 2 weeks liquids, 10 weeks "fork soft" if I can squish the food with a fork to the plate its good.

    My Twins :)

    What a blessing, congratulations!
  20. Thanks for your response. Yeah it was rough but she was very kind. I am sure I turned every shade of red. Admittedly nursing school has been of no assistance in my weight problems. I have gained nearly 50lbs since starting nursing school. What's sad is I knew I had gained weight, but I never realized how much until recently, when I really stopped and thought about it. My start weight and goal weight are both within lbs of yours. So It seems you are where I hope to be by the new year. She did ask me to keep in touch and let her know how things were going. I think part of it was that facility would be my ultimate dream job, and there is a part of me that wonders if I am tainted because of my weight. She told me a story of someone hiring a nurse over the phone and not in person, and her being morbidly obese and the struggle she had, and she ended up not being a good fit" the funny part of that story was I had questioned (my classmates) in the first week or two of my rotation if they hired based on weight and age, because I did not work with one nurse that was anything but thin and they were all very young. Again thank you. I can only take one day at a time and it is true I just need to focus on me in the moment and not worry about what is going to happen tomorrow.
  21. I finished up my Pediatric rotation a couple weeks ago, during my post clinical with my preceptor she asked if she could get personal with me for a minute. She proceeded to say "I have struggled with my weight my whole life...... now you know where this is going...." I was mortified, I couldn't believe she was having the "weight" talk with me. She went on to tell me that no matter how great of a nurse I am that I will always be judged by my weight, and how people will question hiring me because I may not be able to do my job and its already hard on nurses and I need to start loosing weight.... now" Needless to say I was mortified, embarrassed, sad..... so sad..... I don't want to be this way, I have struggled so long I don't know how to be any other way. I told her I am in the process of working towards weight loss surgery, but I still have another clinical rotation before surgery, and now I doubt myself, I am smart I know I am smart, I know I do a good job, but now I feel like they will doubt my abilities based on my weight. I am mad at myself for not being smart years ago, I am mad at myself for not doing something 6 weeks, 6 months, 6 years ago..... I want people to look at me for the person I am, not the fat I carry. I had my final Psych visit yesterday and told him about the "talk" he said "you know I have always felt unsolicited advice is no different than criticism" in a way yes, but is she right.... yes, yes she is. Should I be looked over for a job, or in a clinical setting because of my weight? No, but will I be.... probably. Will people question if I can do an effective job, yes I suppose they might. I guess I just needed to vent for a minute.....

    im only 2 weeks post-op

I know all Surgeons are different but maybe fish was just too soon? Even if it was on the OK list with your surgeon maybe just too soon for you. My list is 2 weeks liquid, 10 weeks fork soft foods (If I can't squish thru to the plate with a fork it is a no go) Maybe try softer items for a week or so and try again down the road? Good Luck
  23. I am still pre op, my paperwork will go to insurance sometime this month. I do have to say that we have similar reasons for choosing the VSG. Good luck in your journey, with my insurance I have been on this journey for six months, I just had my final Psych consult today and go to my PCP on the 17th for my final visit with her.
  24. It very well could be "normal" for you. It also can depend on how much you lost pre op etc.... I wouldn't fret, if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing and you are consistently loosing than you are doing something right! If you loose 1....2....3.... lbs a week and it happens consistently than in a year you are looking at 52....104....156.....lbs in a year. All that matters is you, and your loss! Keep up the good work! If you come to a stand still, and you try changing things up and you still aren't loosing, then you might want to talk to your surgeon or nutritionist (if you were done local) otherwise just keep doing what you are doing.

    Annoyed with PCP

Wow, I have an issue with this. I can't believe she is brushing off your gallbladder. When I ended up in the hospital with my gallbladder and it was removed my surgeon said my surgery lasted longer than normal because it was hard and days away from gangrene I was lucky I got it out when I did. How frustrating
