    Cigna gone crazy?

This is slightly dated, but I too was urgently waiting my approval due to a limited surgery schedule. I explained that I would have to wait until December should I not get the dates I was shooting for and the surgeons office "penciled" me in. I received my approval and they set the date for sure. I ended up with a date 2 weeks later than I really wanted, Silly surgeon took a 3 week vacation. I'm his first when he gets home.
  2. I have a "goal" number but I have never fully been set on it. My surgeon set two goals for me. The top of my BMI and their expected goal, which is 70% of my excess weight, however going into this I have always said if I hit 170 and I am healthy and active and feeling good I am not going to beat myself up. However I am not going to be ok hitting 170 if I'm sitting on the couch at home not even trying. I want to be comfortable in my own skin, where that lands on the scale is to be seen. My surgeons goal is high enough that I am not worried about making their goal.
  3. I have seen a huge variety in time frames... 15-30 min before 30-90min after. The biggest thing to remember is the longer that food hangs out and the more your body works to digest it, without the added water, the longer you will feel full and the less food you will eat.
  4. 33 days until surgery! Very excited!!!

    New to process

Its a journey, but worth it.... I am 36 days and ...... hours until my surgery. I can't even tell you how quickly the time has gone, from my first encounter at an informational meeting in January!
  6. I received my call of approval on the 16th, I received the actual letter today and was super excited and took a picture of the letter and sent it to my friend. First it irritated me that I have been talking about this since January, I told her the whole process of me choosing sleeve over bypass, she acted confused and said "is this different than bypass?" uhhhh yes. So I explain the process, I send pictures and tell her the reasons, again, why I chose the surgery. Anyway she comes back with "I just read about it online, it says you have to be able to count calories, do you think you will be able to count calories after if you couldn't do it before?" I than tell my sister in law about what happened and she says "Boy that's rude, I would be lying if I didn't say I have wondered the same thing but would have never come right out and said it" sighhhhh guess I just have to prove them all wrong.
  7. Trust me.... be honest. Depending on what they do, in my case I took a 265 question test and a 95 question test. There were a lot of repeat questions and I am fairly certain they would have known if I was contradicting myself, my psychiatrist even questioned me about some of my fill in the blank stuff. I worried, I have a history of major depression, I have a history of an anxiety disorder and I am currently being treated for depression. He had absolutely no issues with me, he said that he has found that those suffering from depression tend to do better after surgery. Like cindymg said.... it really is about your head being in the right frame of mind, and if it isn't, you probably aren't ready right now anyway.

    Pcp medical necessity letter...

I am not sure if I needed one. I never got one, so unless my surgeons office asked her for one I am assuming no. I was approved on the 16th.
  11. I look forward to the next post!
  12. I had to loose 5.... which seems so insignificant, but it wasn't and I waited until the last week before my final weigh in to do anything about it. I went very strict low carb and lost 7.9 in a week, I have continued on and lost around 15 or so.... I have maintained, but not been as strict.. I had no motivation, until that last week, because I knew I had to do it, or my paperwork wasn't being submitted! You can and will do it!!!
  13. If you are flying and sitting for long periods of time (post surgery) do the compression stockings. High risk for DVTs....

    Fail psych exam?

I was open about my previous battle with major depression, my current battle with depression and anxiety and was approved. He was very thorough, asked lots of questions. I think it helped that I seek help when I struggle.
  15. Me! Approved for surgery today! My Birthday.

    3 Months Pregnant

Unless there are special circumstances you should be able to eat. I ate up until a couple hours before I had my son, and ate within an hour of having him. I did a labor and delivery rotation last July and the only ones I remember being restricted from food were those with planned c-sections. I honestly don't really remember being very hungry during active labor with my son, but I was starving following delivery. I did vomit the first time I ate after I had him, but I got cleaned up and went back for more and was fine.... ha ha.

    Bypass vs Sleeve?

You know I went in wanting RnY. I was quite surprised when my surgeon said that he recommended the sleeve for me. His main points were that if I had walked in a year ago that he would have been RnY all the way, he said in the last year he has seen how well the Sleeve is working and due to my lack of co morbidities (I do have sleep apnea.... dx in March) my age and not being diabetic he thought it would be appropriate. He was highly against the lap band, said a majority of his surgeries the past year have been revisions. He also talked about how with my age, that if 30-40 years down the road I was putting weight on, that I could be revised to a RnY. Than I found this great forum and read a lot of literature and was just thrilled with what I was reading.

    Speechless

Oh man, I am sorry you are dealing with this. Fortunately my physician was the one who recommended it, she was actually a Nurse Practitioner who I frequently see in a family practice. My family practice set me up with a resident (learning hospital) who has been equally supportive, and very excited (I am her first to go through this process so she is very diligent in the process) Are you in a family practice that has multiple doctors? I have about 12 doctors and 26 residents I can choose from, not to mention 2 NPs and 2 PAs.
  19. Oh lets see.... sleep Study Follow up Sleep Study Labs Upper GI Psych x 3 (1 for testing, 1 for approval and a secondary approval within 3 months of surgery) Exercise Physiologist Nutritionist (once, and again before surgery) EKG Minimum of 1 support group, have attended 5 out of 6 Two appts with surgeon, once to see if I was a good candidate and I will have another pre op. There is another pre op class that is required (surgery date, pending approval, August 29) They go so quickly. I really enjoyed the process. It was hard and yet very worth it.

    August 2013 Roll Call

I have a date of August 29th. I have not technically been approved yet, the paperwork was submitted as of last Tuesday. I really wanted August 13th, I am in school and it would have given me 10 days before I had to be back in class to get over that initial hump, without missing any class, but my surgeon took a two week vacation. I requested the first day after he gets back. It might mean a missed day of school, but I am just going to do it. Otherwise I have to wait until December. Let's go approval letter!
  21. Yes intubated but you won't remember. Possibly a sore throat after, I didn't have one after my gall bladder though.
  22. I have read this one, I really enjoyed it. It gave a really great perspective on the emotional/mental parts of surgery.
  23. Paperwork faxed today, surgery date of Aug 27th. Wanted the 13th but my Dr is on vacation for two weeks, at least he will be well rested!

    So frustrated

I had to loose 5lbs and waited until the last week.... I went low carb, very strict and it was off in no time. I was down 7.9# by my appt.
  25. I am so sorry! That must be so frustrating. I am struggling for my patience right now, they have been telling me for a week that they will fax my stuff, but as of 12 today it was still sitting on the PAs desk. I have very limited time to make a surgery date work this summer, and if it doesn't fall within a workable time frame, it will have to wait for December...... Hoping it all works out the way it is supposed too!
