  1. I too struggle with the pillow. It is awkwardly weird, I tend to stick with it for half the time and switch to a regular pillow. I will have to try it in the lumbar area.
  2. I've always wanted to volunteer for Search & Rescue in my county. I live in a heavily active, 4 season community. There are people lost in the snow every winter, out in the desert every summer, hiking trails, River rescues..... Every November they out a news article out seeking volunteers, every November I say "next year is the year" I am going to do it!

    Pre OP testing

I agree, each as individuals. My EKG was because of a history of anxiety related PVCs. I have a month long Holter monitor report that shows me as fine but he was concerned the anesteologist would have an issue with my Hx. I did just find out the hospital where I'm going has mandatory pre op testing when you go in for early admission (a week pre op) they do Labs, an EKG and a Chest X-ray. I know a girl who received a call the night before surgery that due to a concern with her labs they were postponing her surgery. I would freak out.... She did.
  4. PCP referral... Mandatory seminar... Tons of paperwork... Patient navigator did insurance contacting, gave me my requirements for surgery... Met surgeon. All in about a 2 week period of time.

    Just 60%? Really?

I had the same warning. I was also told that is the statistic and in his practice his sleevers are loosing as much as his RnY patients. On paper they don't expect me to get below 210.... 210?!? I don't think so! I plan on blowing that thought out of the water. However once I hit that number, statistically, I am a sleeve success.
  6. I am sure you know this by now, but there is no way they will let you wear underwear. They strip you butt ass naked, clean you up and sterile drape you. The nurse is used to it though, they are prepared and the bedding is stripped when you are done anyway. The nurse even cleans your belly button lol, it was the one thing the nurse told me, when I was in my OR rotation, that is neglected. This is something I have been concerned about though, I am highly irregular, but I just know that will be the week I start ha ha.
  7. Another thing.... I used to have bad knots in my lower back and it would take me rubbing them daily to keep them at bay. No joke two days of doing this they were gone. I think I paid $47 and it was the mat and a pillow and protective bag.
  8. For my birthday In July I received a gift card to Amazon I wasn't sure what I wanted to buy After I saw this post a few weeks ago I went ahead and I purchased an acupressure mat. I agree it took some getting used to but now when I use it for about 30 minutes a day I can't believe how much better I feel. I haven't paid much attention to my flexibility but it is taken away my lower back pain completely and it helps a lot with headaches and upper body tightness.

    Pre OP testing

I had 6 months of PCP supervised weight loss appointments and that took the longest. I had 3/4 of my appts done in the first 30-45 days after meeting the surgeon for the first time. I waited until the month before my last appointment to do everything else, mainly because I got lazy. It took a couple weeks at the most, to get most results. The longest was from my last appt to insurance submission, it took two weeks due to people out of the office etc, and 2 weeks from submission to approval, so 4 weeks from last appt to approval. I could have had my surgery earlier, as soon as a week from approval, but for school that didn't work. Than my surgeon went on vacation for 3 weeks ha ha. So It will be 5 weeks and 1 day from approval to surgery.

    Sleep apnea testing

HA HA HA.... sounds like me! I had no day time sleepiness, I was depressed and stressed. My physician recommended I get one, and I found out I was waking up 22 times an hour. I have struggled with my CPAP, I wear it nightly but I tend to take it off, unknowingly, in my sleep. When those times are short (after a couple hours) I can tell that day. The sleep study sucks, the CPAP sucks, but it really does help and I KNOW I won't need it all that much longer. I agree with BWaltD though, I have seen Respiratory in hospitals and if you are having apnea spells they will put a CPAP on you.

    Pre OP testing

Mine ordered lab work, EKG, and Upper GI. He also went through the remainder of my pre op expectations: Sleep study, psych evaluation, mandatory book, mandatory support group visit. That was 7 months ago and I am being sleeve in just about 18 days.... Time really does fly!

    Gull Bladder

You You just described it. When it first started I would take tylenol and just rock waiting for it to stop. I quickly realized I felt better if I made myself throw up (Not the best thing, but when you want to cut your insides out a little puke is worth it) At first it was just highly fatty foods that set it off, avocados, lots of cheese etc... In the end (before surgery) Water set it off. Mention it, I am sure they can ultrasound you and see if you have stones and just plan them both at the same time. I waited so long that when it finally was removed my gall bladder was not soft and pliable, it was hard and nearly gangrene, my surgery took nearly twice as long as it was supposed too, my surgeon said I had been sick a long time and that I had probably become so accustom to it that I had no idea.
  14. Well, my school is funny.... I have class one time a week and lab combined so I sit in seat for around 8-10 hours (depending on the class) once a week. I had it all planned out to where I wouldn't miss any class time, and my surgeon decided to take a vacation (It is OK, well rested surgeon = safer surgery) I am actually missing one class/lab, but I went to my direct advisor and explained what I was working towards, and why. I told her I was willing to postpone the surgery (yet reluctantly) until December. She actually gave me her blessing, told me not to worry about it. I have a couple classmates who are taking notes for me the day I do miss and will have 9 days between surgery and in seat class again. I will have five weeks before a clinical rotation, my surgeon has a four week restriction. The professor directly over the class was informed and also gave me her blessing, they both said that they could tell I have done my homework and they agree that for my health it is what is in the best interest of me. I am slightly nervous about being in seat 9 days later, but half the day I will be sitting and the other half is lab, but it is never highly physical. We shall see what my complaints are in a couple weeks!

I know its a compliment but still

I know this is a serious post, but this made me giggle. I think I am going to remember that for the future.... "actually I have lost closer to an adult sized Labrador, although I have always been a fan of elephants!"
  16. Hi! Welcome! I will be sleeved 6 days after you! I start my pre op diet on the 17th. I am in nursing school, I graduate in December. I have my Advanced Med/Surg final tomorrow..... I couldn't read one more line! It is so important to me as a nurse to be a healthy role model for my patients. I am hoping to work with kids, or mother/baby. Looking forward to watching your journey!

    Gull Bladder

I had my gall bladder removed years ago, and I am not having surgery for a few weeks BUT I promise you if you are having issues, surgery is like heaven. I couldn't believe how much better I felt once that thing was gone! I suffered for years through attacks, when I finally ended up in the ER I was in "labor" with it for 6 hours before I got morphine on board to alleviate the pain, and as I told my surgeon I was in labor for 2.5 hours with my son, and brought home a baby and in labor for 6 hours with that thing and brought home nothing but a prescription for pain pills

    sleep apnea testing

It took 2 weeks for my study to be read. I am a proud owner of a CPAP machine. We don't get along But we are trying.
  19. Yeah, much to my dismay. You would have thought I would have been excited but instead it made me so nervous. I was month 4 when I found out and I thought I will had another 3 months and all of a sudden it was 2 months and than I got nervous. Was I ready? Had I learned all I wanted to learn? What I prayed would come quick, sped up even faster. I am fine and actually I am having surgery when I hoped I would. Now I am thankful it was a month earlier because otherwise I would be having surgery in December, but with the month gone I can have it in August. (I am in school)
  20. Mine was 6mo and I thought because my first PCP appt was Jan that month 1 would be Feb. I was wrong. Mine was Jan thru June, so like your original thought. I suppose every surgeon could be different?
  21. I am a December RN graduate and I am being sleeved August 27th.
