    Crushing meds

I don't crush pills either. My surgeon said I will start taking my antidepressants day 2 and no liquid Tylenol etc... Funny the differences.

    Back to work

The ones I pay attention to the most are nurses and I have seen some of them take off up to two months. Long hours, pushing, pulling, lifting, squatting.
  3. I feel ya sister! I remember waiting.... It was horrid! Good Luck, when are you expecting to find out?

    August 2013 Roll Call

I am half way into my 10 day pre op diet! I am back and forth in my struggle to get through it. It is all mental, I am rarely hungry. I haven't "cheated" per se. I have followed my diet in I get in my three protein shakes a day and two small meals, however I am not eating the carbs that were on the list (one slice of whole grain bread with lunch and 1/2C of brown rice with dinner) I am eating meat and veggies on the other two meals and chugging the water. I feel energetic, but if I am late for a protein shake or my small meal I get quite testy! The real test will be Friday and Saturday, my son and I are working two 7 hour shifts out at a music festival, food trucks like crazy.... I will be prepared! I will not be closed up without surgery on Tuesday because my liver is too big! 4 more days of this diet and one day of liquids and surgery!!!

    What is left to do?

When my paperwork was finally submitted (Which after my last Dr. appt took about 2 weeks, than 2 weeks for approval) anyway I told them I was on a tight schedule for surgery, otherwise I had to wait for December and they penciled me in pending approval. So I actually knew my surgery date about 2.5 weeks before I even knew if I was having surgery.

What happens if you get the flu?

At my pre op seminar today the RN said for the next couple years that we should always have Zofran on hand in cases such as what you just described. She said she doesn't want us throwing up... Not that it can be avoided.... And no your stomach isn't going to explode. Probably just need to be extra careful during those times.
  7. I received my Wellesse vitamins yesterday. They sent me 4 doses of the iron and multi vitamin and 60 doses of the B12. I was pleasantly surprised.
  8. Oh my goodness, that gave me a good chuckle. Your dad sounds like a riot, how fun.
  9. It isn't uncommon to hear of no pre op diet. I do have a pre op diet, but if I didn't have one I THINK I would probably follow something, just to be prepared. Make sure you are getting in sufficient protein, staying well hydrated, limiting the crazy "last meals" etc... Maybe something a little more lower carb to help curb your appetite so you don't feel restricted.

    Different, take them both.

    Colorado, anyone?

Do you need a Center of Excellence? Is that why you need to go to Denver? St. Marys is in the process of becoming a COE, but not there yet.

    Colorado, anyone?

Oh that stinks! I am in Grand Junction, I have Dr. Hanly through St. Mary's Bariatric program. I wish you luck!

    Any regrets?

I am day three of my pre op diet and it is so much easier for me today. I realize you are further out, but I think it will get better. I have been tracking calories and protein, and I am amazed how little calories my pre op diet is taking in (800 today, and 130 of protein) and yet I am satisfied and taking something in every couple hours.

    got my time tomorrow

Ohhhh early. I have to be at the hospital at 9, for an 11:15 surgery. Not too bad, I would prefer earlier than later for sure

    Last appointment

Oh man 2 weeks nearly killed me, 6 weeks would be horrible. Time will go to a stand still, you will wonder how it ever went so slow, BUT before you know it you will have your answer. I hope it is approved! Let us know.
  16. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47105-super-nurses-with-sleeves-support-group/page__st__360#entry952058 Been here yet? Nursing forum, you can find different nurses from all walks of life. It definitely varies in time returned to work though.
  17. You said you can't tolerate your CPAP. I am just curious if your surgeon has said anything about checking compliance on your use? I just got a heads up a couple weeks ago that mine will be "Read" for compliance before surgery. Luckily I am compliant in wearing it nightly, all night? rare.... but nightly.

    Slice of pizza

  19. My dad was very opposed. I made sure he was well educated and than I quit talking to him about it. He eventually came around and started asking more questions and even started WW as my date has grown closer.
  20. My nutritionist said water first protein second. You don't want to get dehydrated most importantly, but you want to be focusing on trying the protein shakes. I'm supposed to do 1-2oz of protein on the hour and 1-2oz of water every 15 minutes (15-30-45)

    why do people hide it?

I chose to only tell a few select people while in the application process. I didn't want to have to explain to people what happened if I failed at it. Once I received my approval and surgery date I told others, who I am close with that might be upset if I had surgery without them knowing (family and friends) once I have surgery I plan on telling others on a need to know basis. I have no intentions on hiding it, however I don't necessarily want to walk around with the t shirt.
