Hey all. Sleeved the 27th, home since Thursday. I still need to rely on my pain Killers a bit, but they give me terrible headaches so I avoid them if possible. Sometimes the muscle pain behind my biggest incision makes it intolerable. I slightly overdid it today but for the most part I am good. Got in 64oz of water today, and a few ounces of protein shakes and around 1/2C over two meals of strained soup. I have dull back pain, that I've had since day 1. I think it is the lack of movement when sleeping. I am not ready to run a marathon and I still nap but that is the meds that make me so sleepy. I am so paranoid I am going to have a leak its not even funny. I take my temp multiple times a day, but I know I am doing everything that I can do to be safe. I gained 12# in the hospital and as of this am I was down around 15#. I am trying to not be obsessed with weighing. I am only counting official weights from my surgeons office.

Keeping surgery a secret...?
Macy6 replied to SaraLou's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I kept it a secret through the whole process (except to family and close friends) and on the day of my surgery, a few hours post op, high on morphine I outed myself to the world. I have no regrets, it was my plan all along. I couldn't believe the rush of support and ongoing support. I believe we have all earned the right to our privacy and if you want to keep it a secret do! I agree that the only way for things to truly remain a secret is if no one really knows. Even yesterday my dad had a phone call at work from a past employer who had a question and she said "your daughter and I were in the hospital at the same time and have the same surgeon" my dad was like how in the world did she know? Well my best friend had told her mom who went to visit her friend and mentioned their former bosses daughter was in the hospital and why. I don't care either way but things like that spread like fire. -
I get ya! I'm thankful I've been able to sleep on my side from the first night home. Unfortunately in my sleep I guard myself and have a constant back ache from lack of movement at night.

I am minimum 1 oz every 15 minutes. No more than 8 oz an hour. 8oz is my goal. My first half day home from the hospital wasn't great, 17oz or something. Yesterday, my 2nd day home and 4th day post op I hit 40 oz and today, 3rd day home and 5th day post op I am on target for 64oz. Not counting a half of a Popsicle I had earlier, soup or protein drinks. I'm very persistent. I've already learned first thing in the morning my sleeve is not ready for 8oz of fluid so I take it easy. As the day goes on my tolerance increases and I increase. I feel better getting my fluids in for sure!

Need to loose ten pounds
Macy6 replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went low carb and lost 8# in a week. -
I am 4 days post op and I can take in 8 oz of water and 1 oz of protein an hour. I can't take in over 2oz of protein in any given sitting. In the first week or so the liquids are way more important than the protein. I can tell that I'm increasing everyday. There is no way I could sit and drink a shake in one sitting right now.
-
I was on full liquids from the day I left the hospital but it was highly emphasized to get the hydration in before the protein. If your surgeon wants you to do clear liquids for a week than move on to full liquids I would honestly follow their instructions. Do you have a nutritionist you can call to get their opinion?

Are they giving you something? I've been on Zofran every 4 hours in hospital and every 6 at home. I have never been nauseous.

I've only met my surgeon once for 5 minutes... normal?
Macy6 replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first meeting was about an hour and than it was 7months before I saw him again. I had a second meeting about 4 weeks before surgery that was another hour or so and than I saw him daily in the hospital. -
The morning of my surgery on the way to the hospital I was trying to convince my mom we should just go get breakfast. Than my surgery started two hours late. I wanted to leave so bad. I had to relax and take a breath and remember why I was doing it. It's scary, I totally get it, but now that I'm a few days post op its ok. It's all a process.

Fluids, fluids, and more fluids
Macy6 replied to clmsntgrgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thankful to hear that my bariatric office keeps hydration on hand. If its during the week we can go there and they will hydrate us and send us on our way. -
When were you able to lie on your side again?
Macy6 replied to becslivinlife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can easily sleep on my right side. Not so much on the left side. I tested it by putting a pillow behind one of my sides And it lifted that side up enough that I wasn't flat on my back or straight on my side. I was sleeved Tuesday. -
Only one of my incisions hurt. The other 4 don't even feel like they are there. My one that hurts has already decreased in pain. When do you expect to be released?
-
Hot pads helped me a lot. They gave me a warm blanket for my back and front. I had it too, it does ease up and it hasn't been too bad. Walking also helps

Not 1 person has told me it looks like I've lost weight! I'm sad :(
Macy6 replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BFF lost nearly 50# before I could tell. Even now periodically she looks thinner, other times not as much. It's weird. -
I still can't get over that I'm post op! I'm about 24 hours post op. things are going great. In the hospital. More cat naps than full on sleeping between bells and lights and nurses. I don't mind I feel quite rested. I have been told by at least 10 people that they can't believe I'm post op, that I don't look like I just had surgery. I was cleared to shakes and water this am, room temp, 1oz at a time. They are going down really easily. They weaned me off the PCA and have me on Oxycodone, Tramadol, Tylenol and Zofran. No nausea no vomiting. The occasional Hiccup which sucks. Catheter out and finally went pee, I was getting a bladder scan if I didn't do it soon. My surgeon said I am easily on track for a morning discharge.
-
Finally made it. Surgery was scheduled for 1115 this am. The surgery before mine ran over by at least 2 hours. I hurt sometimes but I have a PCA pump that is keeping me happy. Been napping off and on and up to walk. I Love ice chips. I'm also typing everything with 1 eye open haha.
