  1. You also have to remember you aren't taking in as much as pre op. My PA said if I don't feel like I need to go not to worry, if I feel like it was incomplete or there and not coming out than miralax.

    The Birth of Frankentummy

My goodness. That is a lot! So glad all is well!
  3. I had a 10 minute drive and it couldn't go fast enough! Every bump was torture, and I have had what I think is a relatively easy recovery and they gave me pain medicine and zofran shortly before I left.

    Time off from work

I have a 20# restriction for four weeks. Do you know what your surgeon does? Does your work require a note to return? Do you know what the minimum guidelines are? At 2 weeks a 50# dog would probably be pushing it.
  5. I would guess Bing. I did a lot of research those first few months.
  6. I wrote my sister in law an letter and put it in a file on my laptop and let her know. It freaked her out and made her cry, but like I told her. I didn't think something would happen, but God forbid something happen I wanted to make sure that someone knew my wishes.
  7. As I reflect on this past week I am in awe that I am already here. First I have realized that as much as this forum is a great source of information, that everyone is SO different, that it really is an individual journey as much as a group journey. I have also realized that a lot of the struggles are mind over matter, it sucks to get water in, but "sip sip sip" is pretty much point on in those first few days. I felt like a baby nursing lol, it was constant.... sip...sip...sip.... The persistence has paid off, the first day I only got in 17oz, the second 40oz and yesterday.... 70oz. Protein is another story.... and another post. I have unofficial weights, but I won't make anything official until my two week check up next Monday, lets just say I am coming up on a loss that will put me at my lowest in over 15 months. My energy has come back ten fold in these past couple days and I am starting to feel like myself again. Pain is nearly non existent, tylenol takes care of any issues. I am excited for this journey! I can not wait for a month out when I start clinicals again, I can't even begin to imagine how different I will feel!
  8. Do you have a nutritionist or nurse you can call? Not sure if you were sleeved local or not. I am a week out today and have dealt with a lot of diarrhea, starting Saturday (of course) I'm calling my NUT today to see what she recommends. I thought the pain I was experiencing was normal until I went into labor at 3am on Saturday and proceeded to have 1 of 3 bouts of diarrhea that day and man I felt amazing afterwards lol. I really think mine is related to lactose.

    August Sleevers?

I am a 27th-er too. I am doing fantastic. Once I realized that I was having some lactose intolerance and switched to soy I feel like a whole new woman. I am doing great on water, took in 70oz today. I can easily get 8oz an hour of water. Protein is another story. I am full liquids and do well with a 1/4 C of puréed thinned soups (to a full consistency) and I use a toddler spoon and other soy products. I haven't paid much attention to protein numbers because my focus has been water. Tomorrow marks my 1st week and I am focusing on protein and getting those numbers up. I have my first appt next Monday and I want good marks all around.
  10. Are you measuring your servings? How big are they? What size spoon are you using?

NSFW! Don't Look if You're Squeemish!

I am jealous I was going to ask and chickened out!
  12. My surgeon was very very very straight forward in that if I gained it would be looked upon poorly, and that if I didn't loose "enough" during pre op diet that they would cancel. I wouldn't worry as much since you are in the pre op, but I would change your habits now. I changed my habits months before my diet began and didn't loose a lot, but it helped tremendously during my pre op diet.

    two weeks out...

My big concern here first is your resistance to drink. Are you getting in a minimum of 64oz of fluids, other than Protein shakes? Are you taking in Protein Shakes? How many grams of protein are you getting a day? Every surgeon is different, oatmeal is on my approved list, but I don't think it is something I would turn to regularly. Ice cream and ramen sound like an absolutely horrid idea, with absolutely no nutritional value. I would recommend finding a good site (http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/?m=1) check out the nutrition/recipe forum on here and find things that you like. Prepare hard boiled eggs by the dozen, make mini crust less quiche bites on the egg face blog, freeze and heat. Stock your fridge with low fat yogurts, low fat cottage cheese, low fat cheese. Start with protein, move to veggies. Chew thoroughly, make wise choices, measure your serving out and use your 30min to eat. If you are satisfied you won't crave the crap. If you are "hungry" and it won't be satisfied by a nutrient dense high protein item.... Than its not hunger it's a craving and that is what got us to where we are today. Good Luck!

Blue Shield Denial - so upset

I am so sorry. I am so surprised that someone didn't verify that for you. My surgeons office recommended I keep going, even after approval, up to my surgery just in case something happened. I hope it can work out for you.

    Am I eating too much?

My nutritionist instructions are 1/2C over 30 min. Stop at 1/2C or 30 min. Which ever comes first. Have you tried small spoons to force smaller bites?
  16. I wanted to smother people in the grocery store today, but I felt like I was starving, I was hot sweaty and nauseous and there were screaming children. Granted I am day 6 post op, not tolerating protein shakes and almost started crying in the check out because I just want to eat something. Thank Jesus I am tolerating soy milk. I took in 4 oz in about 20 min and it is the most satisfied, without horrific cramping, that I have felt in a week.

OMG Carb Free (!) Pasta (Chicken)

Michaels should have the egg white powder in their baking aisle.
  18. Same here. I take all of my same medications. It is another one of those funny things that I just shake my head at with all the different rules with different surgeons. I know there is always good reasons but it is funny. My surgeon even allows me to take my extended release anti depressant.... GASP!!! I know!!! I should note, that with the period of time I have been on this antidepressant, that if it weren't absorbing properly I would DEFINITELY know!!!
  19. Welcome! I am only 5 days post op, but you definitely came to the right place!

  21. I feel you! The first few days I had absolutely no hunger, it has reared its ugly head but takes little to keep at bay. Tonight was the first time I have felt truly satisfied since my surgery. I had a pureed, thinned vegetable ground turkey soup that was strained. It was absolutely amazing. I savored it, and could only take around 3 bites at a time than had to take a few minute break. 6 bites and I was good! I haven't been hungry since and that was 5 hours ago. Protein shakes were killing me, due to digestive issues, so this was very nice.

    When does sipping get easier?

Everyday is better for me. I am pretty much golden with water. I don't push it but I can easily take 1-2 oz without much thought. Shakes etc... is more like 1/4 of an ounce. I aim for 8 oz of water an hour. Leave myself 20 minutes out of the hour for whatever protein. So 10 min before and 10 min after and the other 40 I focus on my water. Yesterday at 6 days post op I hit 64oz, today I struggled and hit 44.... It was all in timing.

Found a shake I can tolerate

I did them pre op but I am currently not tolerating them post op. Bummer too, I like them

    August 2013 Roll Call

Sounds really great! I have been relying on tylenol for the most part, but once a day my muscle wall really starts to ache and than I go to the stronger stuff. I was pretty miserable earlier, but had a lactose free soup for dinner and I feel absolutely amazing. I am hoping this is a turning point. My water is good, I hit my goal yesterday, I am short today. I bought lactaid and soy milk. I am going to give that a whirl tomorrow! Hope all continues well!

    August 2013 Roll Call

Oh NO! Hope all is well! Did they have to convert to open? Or was the process in general just longer?
