  1. Updated: 11:35 a.m. CT Dec 20, 2006 LOS ANGELES - A one-month-old baby has been checked and cleared by a Los Angeles hospital after being put through an airport X-ray machine. Authorities at Los Angeles International Airport say an inexperienced traveler mistakenly put her grandson through a carry-on luggage screener. A startled security worker noticed the shape of a child and immediately pulled the baby out. A spokesman for LAX says the incident Saturday was an innocent mistake. In 1988, an infant in a car seat went through an X-ray machine at the airport.
  2. Your grandmother obviously does not spend much time hanging out here....LOL
  3. Well, that just ruins all my Crocodile Dundee fantasies. I guess you're going to tell me next that Koala bears aren't as cute and cuddly as they look!
  4. Jason... Dr. Rutledge performs a controversial procedure commonly known as a "mini-bypass". In another video he is equally critical of the RNY, because he promotes only "his" WLS. I would take anything Dr.Rutledge says with a grain of salt. First of all, his hard sell approach to bariatric surgery is very unprofessional. Secondly, only he and the handful of surgeons he has trained and approved offer the mini-bypass. There must be a reason for that.
  5. Many years ago the Catholic church denied suicides the right to be buried in hallowed ground. They no longer do that. Now they recognize that people who take their own lives are emotionally disturbed and not in control of all their faculties. The Catholic church is very compassionate to the families of suicide victims in this day and age. However, if the boy has grandparents or great grandparents from the "old church" (pre Vatican II), they might have voiced the opinion that he wasn't going to heaven. Fortunately, they don't get to make that call. Only God does.
  6. I am just seething as I write this. Tonight there was a knock at my front door. It was a friend of Cheyenne's, from the neighborhood, and her dad (stepdad). Now this is a very nice girl. She has been here many times and never been anything but respectful and polite and NICE. I've met the mom and thought the home life was a little rigid - the girl is 14 and not allowed to have a boyfriend, no matter how innocent, not even allowed to stay home alone while her parents go out to dinner - but that's their call, not mine. The dad was mad as hell because he came home early from work and caught the daughter on "his" computer, setting up a My Space page. She told him that Cheyenne had taught her how to do it. He was just furious at everyone....his daughter, my granddaughter - everyone. He demanded to know if I knew what My Space is. Well...duh, yes I know what it is. But I never got a chance to answer. "It's all CUSS WORDS," he said. I told him I was very sorry that it happened. I knew that his daughter and Cheyenne made the My Space page. I didn't know it was against HIS rules for her to have one. Cheyenne admitted that she helped her make it, but said that she deleted it after she found out Kayla wasn't supposed to have one (which explains why she was making a new one when she got busted). The poor girl was mortified. Cheyenne had another girl from school here during this whole thing, and the dad didn't even care. He said, "We have had enough of her lying and disrespectful behavior are about to pull her out of school." Then he said, "And she's a thief, too. Did you know that?" I was appalled! I said to him, please don't do this. Girls this age are vicious and that kind of thing will get all over school and Kayla will be humiliated. He said, "I'm not doing anything. She did it to herself." The man was just a complete ASS! These people pride themselves on their Christian principles. But it was very, very evident to me that this man does not like his stepdaughter and God help me, but I think he actually ENJOYED her misery, and putting her down in front of myself and the other kids. It seemed to me like some kind of twisted power trip. What is wrong with these fruitcakes? I'm a Christian too, but people like this give the rest of us a bad name. Jesus never said you were supposed to humiliate anyone - let alone your own child - in His name.
  7. I agree, even though I hate to admit it. But some really high dividends will salve my tight-ass Christian conscience. I can give more to the church, right?
  8. Good for you, Betsy. My son works for them (KBR, actualy) and has been to Iraq for them twice, and I have to say that they have treated him very fairly, but I still have major issues with Halliburton.
  9. Christmas comes during the summer where you live, so dinner in the Weber is an easy choice. Usually it's warm enough where I live too (Texas) and a lot of people here deep fry their holiday turkey, but most parts of the USA and just about all of Canada would find it a wee bit chilly to cook out in December. Has the Weber overtaken the barbie in popularity? I always did love that expression: throw another shrimp on the barbie.
  10. Today I heard that China will begin Jan 1st implementing new restrictions on adoptions. No longer will single people, "old" people, or overweight people (BMI greater than 40) be allowed to adopt Chinese children. Wouldn't you think that if the criteria needed fine tuning they would try to eliminate people with more "undesirable" traits than their weight? I guess fat is the new Leprosy.
  11. No fair....she has to be clam. She's a Moderator. Moderators aren't allowed to be controversial. Which is why most of us aren't....Moderators, that is.
  12. I don't know....but he's cute. He can clean my house any day. Come to think of it, though....I'm willing to let just about anyone clean my house.
  13. And the reason this bothers you is????? One thing I have learned is that people NEVER think someone else has too much time on their hands, unless they don't agree with them.
  14. That is AWESOME! The best Christmas present ever! Congrats, Sally Jo.
  15. Relax....Wheetsin won't be offended if you tell her she is going to hell. She doesn't believe in hell. Edited to add... The problem with Atheists is they are so damned reasonable. And generally very intelligent, too.
  16. But if I'm right, I get to say I told you so, and you get to ask for ice water. If you're right....nothing happens. No doubt....
  17. At least I didn't buy Enron, or even MCI. I did buy Lucent at $25.00 when it was an IPO. Bad move. Should have gone with Google instead.
  18. Anybody want my recipe for peanut butter fudge?
  19. Did you know that Ron Jeremy has a degree in special education? It's good to have a backup plan, but dang....that might give "meet the teacher" night a whole new meaning.
  20. As Tigger says...GMTA (great minds think alike). Well....sometimes.
  21. Mine, too, Sue, but my portfolio, which today is worth less than $200,000, was valued at $311,000 at the end of 1999.
  22. Allah is our God, too. We just worship him differently. And, of course, we squabble over the fine points - like whether the Bible (and which Bible) or the Koran or the Torah is the proper, divinely inspired rule book, and which prophet/Messiah is the true messenger of God's word.
  23. Sorry...miscommunication. I thought, when you said I was quoting stuff like I was a Baptist, that you meant I was impersonating one. I was not trying to tell you what Baptists believe - only that the Baptists I know do not believe suicide is unpardonable. Maybe you are a different breed of Baptist than the ones I know. If memory serves me correctly, there are different types of Baptists, correct? One group, as I recall, are called "Feet Washing Baptists". And there are "Hard Shell Baptists", "Southern Baptists"....probably many more. I meant no disrespect to any member of any Baptist congregation. The information about the KJV of the Bible was in response to your posts. You initially said that maybe my (Baptist) friends used a different Bible and I said not likely, since they are a bit rabid on the subject (that the KJV is somehow more "holy" than any other, in spite of its history). You, in turn, said I needed to explain my remarks, so I did. Whew! I hope we have that all cleared up!
  24. Sorry, but I take exception to that. I have attended church regularly my entire life. I have given my time, my talent, and my money. I have read the Bible many times over, taught CCD (religious ed for Catholic children), lectured, served communion, visited shut-ins and prayed my little heart out - on my knees, I might add. I was instrumental in starting a grassroots, multi-denominational ministry in Tarrant County, a ministry which is still in operation after 23 years. But I have never felt "prompted" by the Holy Spirit. I have never been "saved". But according to Billy Graham I'm not going to heaven! Amazing! I did not realize Rev. Graham had such lofty connections.
