  1. i had to break up with the food network and cooking channel post op. it was a painful breakup. but a clean break. sometimes i am tempted to date again, but thankfully, the magic is gone.
  2. you should go see you doctor/nut and have a frank discussion with him/her.
  3. Vitamins are one of those things where you dont want to get the cheapest. you dont need the most expensive, but the cheapest is not going to get you what you need. try vitacost.com, they have excellent wholesale prices on quality vitamins. their house brand has always worked well for us.
  4. i hope you have seen a doctor and are getting some answers.
  5. time to look for other things to add into your life that will make you happy. for many of us, food is our life... hobby, friend, preoccupation. food isnt that important anymore. time to move on and expand your life to include new things you can love and will bring you pleasure.
  6. i increased my magnesium today, and i did a dance class this afternoon... i am feeling much better. **mumbles about fibromyalgia, but refuses to discuss it**
  7. what an interesting take! i would find it hard separate these things... i had a fairly healthy lifestyle before surgery... except for the huge portion sizes and all my emotional eating. you can get fat on healthy food too! i did exercise, but wasnt able to do what i wanted with my fat body. so for me i would say my healthy lifestyle will be managing my emotional eating (in many ways) and my restriction will take care of my portion sizes... so, both.
  8. its fairly rare to find therapists who do what they do so they can milk clients for money. the vast majority of therapists, skilled or not, genuinely care about helping people. i wonder what you might be afraid is going to happen if you have to see someone.
  9. i agree. there is a reason some people find carbs so effective for emotional eating (other people prefer Peanut Butter or cheese)..... learning to get past emotional eating can go a long way in eliminating cravings. i know exactly why my H finds sugar so reinforcing, but that's his gig not mine. i have my own emotional eating traps to figure my way out of. bottom line... i would not fret about giving up a banana for my recovery period. this surgery is too important to start finding reasons to not be compliant with the nut's plan already. (though i never complied with my center's plan of artificial sweeteners and fat free food products, i just dont eat them) plan on less for the immediate post op time frame and then slowly add in things to see if you can tolerate. it's way easier to add stuff than take it out after you feel like hell or are vomiting.
  10. yeah, i'd be appealing THAT one to the insurance company ASAP.
  11. for some people. it's not like that for everyone. but you can go overboard with fruit. it is sugar and can be digested rapidly when not eaten with anything else. my H has a real sugar problem. due to food allergies he's significantly changed his diet over the past year. he doesn't drink soda or eat candy bars anymore. but will come home and eat 2 bananas in a row. he doesn't see how he craves sugar when he is tired and hungry. he figures, it's fruit, it's fine. but the way he eats it, it's not.
  12. you never know what you might or might not be able to tolerate after surgery. banana made me feel very icky. (too much sugar) i can still only tolerate a few bites of banana. berries i can tolerate much better. my Protein drinks after surgery were Protein powder, milk and ice cubes. nothing else. when the protein powder was making me gag, i switched to milk and greek yogurt blended together. plenty of protein and i was able to tolerate.
  13. take advantage of it. it might be just what you need after surgery when you wont have the option of using food to cope anymore. most people are a little surprised at just how much they have relied on food to deal after the surgery.
  14. i get tropical oasis at vitacost.com.
  15. you need professional help, not advice on a weight loss forum!
  16. you should check with your nut, i wasnt supposed to for 3 months.
  17. to my H, a snack ALWAYS consists of carbs! or alcohol. or both.
  18. no, my surgeon gave it to me post op when my stomach wasnt squeezing. my PCP just continued the script , and recently i changed docs and my new PCP never said a word. my mom says her GI guy told her all about the possible side effects. she too has gone off it, and hasnt felt any difference, which made her feel it wasnt the right drug for her anyway.
  19. i dont think you are getting in all your protein. if you are getting in 60 grams of protein, i am guessing you wont be hungry. you should be aiming for 64 ounces of water too. i would avoid potatoes until you are able to get in all your protein. when you can get in your water and protein, you will feel full.
  20. compassion for others begins with compassion for ourselves. many of us dont have any experience treating ourselves with compassion and loving kindness. hence our difficulty in taking care of our health, eating right exercising, making good decisions. beginning with compassion for ourselves is a great place to start with this surgery. you can't hate yourself into being healthy.
  21. pdx, check this interesting article i found. dr mercola can be a nutloaf, but i still found this interesting. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mercola/sore-muscles_b_3398611.html
  22. yeah, there is a diff between building muscle soreness and DOMS. and i did do yoga and walk/hike before surgery... not anywhere near what i attempt to do now, but i wasnt totally sedentary.
  23. wondering if anyone has any insight into this post WLS? i get so sore several days after i exercise... 2, 3, sometimes even 4 days later... it's really making me miserable and curtailing my desire to workout. i have just pushed thought the soreness and gone and worked out again, but then i am doubly miserable later on. i have talked to my chiro, a good friend who a very experienced trainer and done research online, but i have not found any revelations about why this might be... i eat my Protein, drink my Water, take extra magnesium and glutamine... i warm up, stretch, follow all the suggestions. there have been some concerns in the past i might have fibromyalgia, but my "C reactive protein" markers in my blood were back down to normal before the surgery... maybe i need to have another blood test? anyone know anything about this being specific to WLS? or maybe this is just me and not connected at all.
  24. because it makes your blood sugar go up. if your blood sugar is low, you feel hungry. protein doesnt make your blood glucose level go up. thats why its good to eat a protein and carb at the same time. make sure you are getting enough fiber and fat too. many people dont feel satisfied on just protein. (humans evolved to crave a varied diet)
  25. are you getting in all your protein and water? usually in the beginning, when you are hungry its because you aren't getting all your protein or water, or your blood sugar is low... i needed a little honey a few times from low blood sugar, but i have issues with hypoglycemia.
