How did you survive giving up caffeine and sugar?
DonRodolfo replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i guess i'm not wired for sweets as much as others. As long as I don't have a single bite, i won't crave it. Now go get yourself an army if you intend to separate me from my caffeine! -
I was sleeved today!

You got cotton bandages? Congrats, glad it went well for you! -
I think it happens. I got my insurance approval the week before my surgery.

To someone with refined tastes who prefers Niebaum-Coppola I imagine Isopure is pretty ghetto-tasting
-
Alpine punch is probably my favorite, followed by coconut. I was given grape in the hospital and it wasn't too bad.
-
Are you talking about the RTD or the powders? I've not tried the Isopure powders but I'll be the first to admit there's a funky aftertaste in all the RTDs I've tried. I still like them because they're convenient.

I lost 50lbs preop on the knowledge i gained from my NUT and less effort than I had put into weight loss in the past.

My doctor's office uses one - if I didn't have the one above I'd get a Tanita. -
Scales! Not sure that mine is good...Suggestions?
DonRodolfo replied to jordan1079's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh stop! Honestly, when I bought it years ago I had considered the 500lb max model but saw myself exceeding that in the future. -
I had issues with hydration. After pumping 2 and a half IV bottles of fluid into me I still had no desire to urinate. The did an ultrasound of my bladder and it was bone dry. They put some sort of medicine in my IV and I was able to go later. I also had issues with oxygen (not sure why) so I had to wear a cannula for a little while until it came up. All in all, could have been worse. I don't recall anyone having these issues.

Between Feb 23 and May 28 - 50lbs Between May 28 and now - 43lbs Your mileage may vary. People's complications vary so much it's difficult to predict. For what it's worth, I had way less complications than I thought I would.

if i had been up until 2am fighting food cravings then up at 7am on 5 hours of sleep i'd feel pretty pissed off too. I'm sure I'm not the only person on this board that looks up to you. You say you want to look like us? SURPRISE - we want to look like you! 70lbs is a HUGE accomplishment, we want that kind of success. Stop beating yourself up, you deserve better. You're an inspiration to people, start saying that in your head instead of that negative stuff that's in there now.

Welcome! Good to have you here. Looks like you're from the Dallas area as well. I'm in Forney. Make sure you check out the Dallas support group mentioned here, it's only a few months old but growing. Been to a couple meetings and met some nice people.

Are protein shakes the answer
DonRodolfo replied to Sharon7370's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT said the same thing as mark about the body only being able to use a particular amount of protein. What are you saying happens to excess protein? -
This is all new for me...
DonRodolfo replied to MrsYoungJr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WELCOME! We were all at the point where you are now. This is a good place to ask questions. Keep in mind that there are few, if any, doctors here so you'll get answers based on what we know from our own doctors and our own research. YOUR doctor has the final word on your care. -
Track calories or just let restriction do it's job?
DonRodolfo replied to christieouchley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't trust myself enough to not track. Just yesterday was proof - i had been telling people I'm not getting 1000 calories a day but I'm meeting my Protein quota. i did a spot check and found that most days i'm NOT getting enough protein. I've now made an adjustment that should help.
