  1. Yes, the endoscopy. Does it depend on aspects of your health history?
  2. Awesome message Joe! I would not have had the patience to write everything you covered. My husband and sister are the only ones who know so far that I am getting sleeved and it's killing my sister who thinks I owe it to the rest of the family to tell them (I have grown kids and our parents are still around). So I promised her I would send out an email as soon after the surgery as I could. I also hope you don't mind if I steal some of your words to express why we choose to keep this private..... Best of luck on your journey, I've enjoyed reading about it!
  3. My surgery is the 28th as well. No scoping for me though! Why are you having it done?
  4. My PCP is part of a large medical group that includes a bariatric practice so WLS was a spiffy idea as long as I had it done within the group. But since I don't qualify under my insurance and am going to MX, not so much; I'm getting push back about how to bill and code my follow-up care. My PCP is young and wants to do everything strictly by the book. I don't want to change drs but I don't want to hassle with attitude either......
  5. Rollargirl, I read your thread on India - the comments were pretty rough about it I thought. I looked at PV as an option but prices were slightly higher there and I didn't think I would be able to enjoy it like I want to. I can go anytime really, but you should go for it if you want to!

    Relief in Boston

Indecision can be horrible. I took weeks for me to pull the trigger and thinking about it was really irritating me. But I set my date and it was a load off my shoulders. I'm very busy getting caught up at work before I leave so I don't have much time to think about anything but the logistics of everything. But now and then I realize the big changes ahead and get very excited!

    HELP..WIRING MONEY

I put my deposit on a credit card (500USD). There was a 15. USD surcharge but the security of having it on the card gives me peace of mind. The rest is due as a cashier's check day of surgery.
  8. ****** Excited for you! ***********
  9. For me, it's my feet. I have genetically messed up feet - I've had foot surgery but the weight is keeping them from getting better and I'm having mobility problems. I've got to get this weight off before I'm crippled.
  10. If you were going to have a baby would you just go in blind and hope for the best? Prolly not. Same deal here......

    Mashed Cauliflower

Amanda, in my Atkins days I played with cauliflower a lot. To be a remote sub for mashed potatoes, you will want to drain as much water off as possible after cooking and mashing. I used a strainer. You can re-heat in the microwave. Of course butter and sour cream help But that was on Atkins. I used seasoned salt too. Hope that helps!

    What do I pack?!?!

I've heard other MX sleevers mention a washcloth or two in case your room at the hospital only has towels. I'm going to pack a couple myself........ But there seems to be a consensus on the GasX strips, heating pad, and chapstick so I'm bringing those. I have a Kindle Fire that will supply my reading and internet needs. Yep, trying to pare things down to the minimum.

    Concerns

Sherri, I'm right there with you. My husband is supportive and I've told my sister (only cuz I need her help to watch the cat). But she is really trying to talk me out of it. So I can only take dealing with one person's negative attitude. As for work, I've already started my shakes and eating very light around co-workers. I lost a lot of weight four years ago (gained it all back of course) so they are used to seeing me watch my diet. I say start now with new eating/drinking habits and telling folks you are going to try to take off some weight and eat better. Then when it starts really happening you will look like a real success.
  14. I don't think you're crazy! There are plenty of folks from Canada who have to endure long flights to get to MX (but not as long as yours!). Look through the posts on the forum from Amanda and Armywife to see who else will be at Mi Dr when you are - I'm sure there are some. Be sure to ask Dr Lopez for advice for the trip home, and sitting for long periods. I've heard compression stockings are advised for such trips. Good for you taking charge of your life, I think you are very brave!
  15. Have a safe journey Peacock Mama! I'm sure you'll be fine and feel so much better when it's over. Don't blame you for being excited and nervous. Please let us know how it goes for you!

    Strawberry Unjury Recipes?

I have the same problem with the strawberry Unjury! I tried it with almond milk and that was too thick for me. Then I tried again with Water and some lemon juice (like half a lemon) and I loved it! If you find some other way that you like, please post it.

    security

My understanding is that you check out of the hotel and then back in after your hospital stay. I also read that Mi Doctor has safes in the rooms for valuables. But please ask your coordinator and confirm!

Good to hear you're being well taken care of. Can't wait to hear from you from the other side!

    Telling work

Where I work HR does not process FMLA, Met Life does. So that is an added layer of confidentiality. Nice to know MX surgeons and coordinators are familiar with FMLA paperwork! Better get busy with mine......

    Going alone

Objectively, no. But it depends on your comfort level. The more I have read on this forum, the better I feel about going to MX for this surgery, my choice of dr, and the sleeve itself. At the beginning of my search I would not have felt comfortable about going but now I would! PLENTY of folks who post here have gone, and will be going alone. But you're not really alone. Someone else here (probably several someones) are going the same time as you. I bet they will chime in and before you know it, you won't be going alone at all.....

    Rohler1520's thread

Yay you're done! Feel better, rest, walk, sip, all that. Thanks so much for posting. That's cool about Dr Luna reading our posts, been watching him and Dr Garcia and the gang on You Tube so I feel like I know them already and now they know us!
