  1. Just outside of Charlotte here. Had surgery March 20, 2013. Now 20 weeks pregnant with first baby :) Good luck to you all. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

    Who did your surgery?

Dr. Pirello (sp?) at Novant Matthews. Unfortunately he's not a surgeon any more as he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Awesome, right? :) lol So I haven't followed up with anyone since about 9 months out because I really didn't care for his PA and that's the only one I met with after surgery.

  2. I haven't been on this forum in forever but I'm looking for a couple friends to go through this journey with. I'm 20 (almost 21) weeks along with my first (lil' boy). I was 11 months out when I found out I was pregnant. I still had about 30lbs to my goal. So this whole weight gain thing is starting to get to me a little bit (mentally and emotionally). I had gotten down to about 210 (from 299) and was 216 when I got pregnant and now I'm at 230. I know I'll be able to work on this again when the baby gets here but for right now, it's just challenging. Anyone else in the same boat? :)

  3. Sometimes I feel like I haven't even had surgery. I had surgery last March. I have gained a few pounds in the past couple of months because I can't seem to get myself back into an exercising routine and my eating has been crap. I feel lost. Like I'm not sure what to do even though I know all the basics and stuff. Has anyone else gone through this and gotten out of it? I've lost 88lbs (was at -92lbs) and I still have another 20-30 to go. I just feel so stuck. I guess I'm just trying to make sure I'm not alone in this. I don't look at the Facebook groups I am a part of much any more because it makes me depressed to see everyone else's success stories that it never seems like they have any issues. I did c25k in the fall and got to where I could run for 30 minutes straight but then we went through a move and holidays, etc and I haven't exercised at all since November. I feel horrible but I can't seem to pull myself away from making bad decisions. Anyway. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

  4. Help! It's been a week and a half since I have ran! I moved and don't have access to a treadmill right now and I had gotten so comfortable running that way. I live in a great neighborhood now where I've even mapped out a route but there's something that is incredibly intimidating about getting out there and running. Maybe it's the whole running in public thing? Maybe I feel like I will fail and won't be able to run other than on a treadmill? I have a 5k on November 30! I have to get moving ASAP.

  5. I am almost 8 months. I met with my ob/gyn and told her I wanted to start trying at the end of the year and she thought that was fine. Then when I had my 6 or 7 month follow up at my surgeon's office, she suggested I use some form of bc since I wasn't on the pill (we use condoms right now) and "we don't want you getting pregnant... but I mean, if you do, you do and we will work with you". So I take that to mean that yes it would affect my weightloss but I think I would be ok since I can eat 4oz at a meal and eat 1200 calorie a day.

Sorry that was a long response lol but just my 2 cents ;)

  6. Do you run every day? or every other day? I decided to start doing every other day and on the days I don't do c25k, I'll do the elliptical and strength training. I did that this morning and felt like I was cheating on my running program lol I didn't feel as awesome and energetic after I was done either...It was kind of a bummer. And it kinda stinks that My Fitness Pal doesn't give you credit (calorie burn wise) for strength training.

  7. Finished week 6 day 3 today :) Yay...22 minutes of jogging! Question for you guys. I've been doing about 95% of my workouts on the treadmill with a 1% incline. My first 5k is on November 30. We will be moving and should be in our new place by Nov. 16 and it's a great neighborhood for walking/running. I'm planning on doing my workouts outside on the weekends but since I have been getting up super early in the morning to run on the treadmill, I enjoy doing that and I know I'll actually get it done that way. Am I setting myself up for failure for my 5k since I haven't been doing it outside? Maybe I'm thinking too much about it....

  8. I finished the Couch to 10k! In 14 weeks I went from running for one minute straight to running for 60 minutes straight! I went from a total distance of 1.5 km in a workout to 8.7. I'm still "obese" so if you are thinking you can't do it? Think again. Next goal is to get to 10k distance. I will keep adding 5 minutes a week until I do. Then I will work on speed to trim the minutes back off.

Wow! That's awesome! Good for you and what an inspiration :)

  9. I totally feel ya. I'm a little over 7 months out and I have baby fever bad. But I just started thinking of things that I want to do before I get pregnant and focus on those things. Like right now, I'm training to run a 5k. I want to be as healthy as possible when I do get pregnant so I'm just focusing on that. One of the main reasons I had surgery was so that I could start a family. I'm planning on trying at the end of the year (with the ok from my doctors). Good luck!

  10. I totally feel ya. A big reason I had the sleeve (March 2013) was to get down to a healthy weight and hopefully get pregnant. I have PCOS as well (but there are some normal weight people that also have this too). My sister in law is pregnant with her second and it's so so hard for me to be happy for them but I'm trying. Most all of my friends have kids and I have felt very left out for years. I'll be 30 in April. I'm really praying next year is the year for me.

  11. Does anyone solely do their exercises at home? I get up now at 5am and walk down to my apartment gym to walk/run on the treadmill but I'm about to move and won't have that luxury. I don't want to join a gym because I want to work out early in the morning only and I know myself enough to know I won't drive that early. I have access to a treadmill when we move that I can have in my spare room so I was thinking about getting a couple of weights (dumbbells or kettlebells) and just making it a workout room. Does anyone else do this? Has it worked for you so far? or do you prefer using a dvd workout? hmm...

  12. This has been one of the best things I've done for myself physically (second to getting sleeved). I just completed week 5 day 1. I made it through and even jogged 6 minutes instead of 5 in the last segment but I think I'll do the same tomorrow. Not sure if I'm quite ready to move on yet but I will get there :) I feel awesome about myself when I get it done in the morning. And I registered for my first 5k yesterday (November 30!).

  13. How have everyone's experiences been with Dr. Pirrello?

I have to say, I'm not pleased so far. My consultation appointment was in October and here it is mid-June and I still am not sleeved. I only had to do 3 months with the nutritionist (which actually only takes 2 months.) Everything else seems like it has just taken forever because of their total lack of communication and effort to do their part of the pre-op process. It is near impossible to get in contact with them unless you actually drive down there. The funny part is that they assured me during consultation that I would only need to make one appointment and that they would take care of everything else. They have done nothing that they have said they would thus far.

I'm wondering if maybe I should switch to another surgeon. The only thing keeping me with Dr. Pirrello is all of the great reviews he gets from everyone else.

I went with Dr. Pirrello. Surgery was March 20, 2013. I'm sorry you are having this experience because it wasn't anything like that for me. I had to do 6 months with the nutritionist but other than that, they kept up with everything pretty well. If you need to...switch to another surgeon but I really do think a lot of Dr. Pirrello and feel like he is in it for more than the money and genuinely wants to see people succeed. Good luck with whatever you choose.

  14. I have PCOS as well. Having a baby was a large part of why I had the surgery but definitely not the main reason because my gyn told me she would help get me through a healthy pregnancy if I wanted to try...but at 300 lbs, I knew that just wasn't smart. So I've let my weight hold me back majorly with the "oh I can do it myself" yo-yo dieting that I've done all my life. But now, I'm almost 4 months out, 67lbs down and off my bp meds and don't take anything else (but vitamins). So I'm well on my way. I'll be 30 in April (yuck!) so we'll start trying next year :)
