  1. I agree with lessofmeismore, take your pain meds and even if you are tired so then rest. It may be "less invasive" then open surgery, but you did have a major change and your body has to adapt. Take it easy, sip your fluid, and look at the positive stories on this site. This does not happen over night and you have to first recover and let your body heal. I am four days postop and am in no way back to myself yet. I walked around our park and down to the neighbors yesterday, but was not pushing too far too fast. I am sipping throughout the day, I am only on stage 1 so just clear liquids, but feel fine as far as that goes. I started keeping track of everything to see if I am getting enough and just so I know what is going on. I had issues with things like hiccups because my surgeon fixed a hiatal hernia and that would increase my pain but they are going away. Just take it a day at a time and try to remember why you did this. I never thought it would be "easy" and knew from talking and listening to people there would be pain and issues, you just removed some of your stomach after all. Just try really hard to look at the positives and realize you need to heal before going on and that it will get better. Try to stay positive. I believe that is important for a lot of reasons. It will get better!!

    Hiatal Hernia?

I just had my surgery last Thursday and also had a large hiatal hernia and he fixed it--bariatric nurse called it two surgeries for the price of one I had a little trouble with hiccups starting the day after surgery that kind of upped the pain that was caused by the irritation on the diaphragm but that is subsiding and it was no problem for the surgeon. It is probably something your surgeon has dealt with before many times.

    Less than 24hrs to go!

I feel really good. A little sore in the area of the incisions but nothing major. I hate a hiatal hernia fixed and there were some issues with hiccups which caused some pain with each one but none today so far. I went for a walk in the park this afternoon and just trying to increase each time. I feel like I have had surgery but so excited and feeling good to be postop. Some people are doing the protein but my doctor has me just on liquids, stage 1 as they refer to it, probably until my postop appointment on Wednesday so my only "duty" is to get in enough fluid to not be dehydrated and I am doing well. I have kept track so I know and feel good about what I am doing. I sip a lot. I wish you well and hope your surgery is a great success. Keep us posted.
  4. Congratulations--you look absolutely gorgeous. Such a good thing to see where you have been and to see the progress. I think it is good to reflect.
  5. I remember telling a relative about my surgery before I had it and the look of "what the heck are you doing" was so obvious and she was not the only one. That very instance you start second guessing yourself and all it took was me walking up the stairs at work and feeling worn out and it starts to remind me the number of reasons why I decided on this approach and put everything into perspective. Not everyone we encounter are going to be on board with us or understand, some may not at first but may as we educate them, and others will be supportive because they care if they understand it or not. I have to admit years ago I never thought I would be doing this but then I did not know about the sleeve. I am sorry for you that your friend has chosen to be so rude, and she truly needs a lesson in compassion. We are not all the same and we all use different tools to get to where we need to be. We chose the sleeve and she needs to get over it. Wish you luck with her, she needs educated.

Good luck--only had mine Thursday and can relate to that excitement.

    hmmmm...maybe not SO easy

I am postop 4 days now and my only requirement from the doctor was staying hydrated. The protein will come probably at the time of my postop appointment 6 days postop. I was worried first day home but it has gotten better since then. I try to make my drinks into meals, broth like a soup, sugarfree jell-o for dessert and something else to drink in sips as I go. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired but the only real complication that has caused other than a referred pain is hiccups which makes me concerned when I drink not to cause them. At first I thought I would want to be moved up but I am okay taking everything slow and easy.
  8. My surgery was also 2/28! It seems to be getting better every day. Learning as I go especially how to drink as I also had a hiatal hernia repaired and have had problems with hiccups which increases the pain with every hiccup, but trying to figure out how to drink better. I stepped on the scale for curiousity and it was up from presurgery but understand what is going on with my body so I am not concerned with that. Just glad I did it and excited for the future. Good luck and congratulations to you!!

Hello--my surgery is at 9:00 a.m., I have to be there at 7:30 so not too bad as I am only an hour away. I am so thrilled to have you all to share this with as it is so new to so many people. I had so many well wishes from people at work and my sisters have been calling and praying with me, now I am teary and emotional, but so excited to be on the healing side and starting that new chapter. Good luck to you. I agree totally about staying in touch. Waiting to hear good things!!

Congratulations!! Encouraging words as my surgery is Thursday and am thrilled to hear your upbeat spirit and enthusiasm. You have a positive attitude and that has got to make the road ahead a lot easier to deal with.

    Anxious and Excited

My surgery is Thursday and hard to believe it is almost here. Very excited, nervous, but ready to start this new chapter. I am okay with most of the diet but one part is very hard for me to tolerate. Excited for that phase to be done and the next one to start. Good luck breemarshall and rohler1529!!
  14. Good luck Jacee! My surgery is Thursday. I am excited about getting rid of the big stuff and I have some very nice things I have not been able to wear I am excited to get into. So looking forward to getting rid of the "too big clothes" and not ever seeing them again. Needless to say I have been down before and gained it back but not this time. This time they are going and not coming back!!! Again, wish you well this week.

    Nervous

Goya, my surgery is the 28th and I am nervous, but also so excited. I am sitting here wishing I had never gotten to this point that I have to contemplate this, but I did. Now I need to move ahead to be the healthiest I can be for my kids, my grandkids and my husband. I am having a pity party as I am doing my preop diet and wishing I could eat like I used to, and yet doing that is why I have to go through this. The reality of it for me is that I wish it was not the way it is, but it is and since the other things I have done did not work, this is the one. Trust me, I am really nervous, too, but trusting in my surgeon and God to get me through this. I pray you, too, will have great success.

    starting the process

Devonmae--like you I went searching originally thinking I would do the band but after really searching decided this was a better choice for me. I am scheduled for February 28th and on the fourth day of my preop diet and very excited but nervous as well. I am 52 and have 3 beautiful grandchildren that I want to see grow up and play with like you, instead of watching from the couch. I dream about all the things that I like to do or even just want to do around our place and it has been so hard being so heavy. I am so ready for the change and looking forward to it! Good luck with your new adventure!! It is great to have others to talk to here, also.

    February 28th

I made my first trip to the grocery store since I started the diet as I had to get stuff for the family. I did find a couple things that I could get for me, hoping that it will help me get past this (sugar-free drinks and jell-o) but the little things that normally would not care so much about sound and smell so good. It has been a challenge, but it is getting closer to the day that starts the new beginning. Counting down has even more meaning now

    February 28th

I had to start my diet the 18th and having trouble with only one part of it, but it is the start of a new life so I can do this. I keep thinking if I could have had this kind of control all these years I would not have to do this, but the only reason I have the resolve to do it is for the surgery and a new beginning. Guess it does not do me any good to dwell on what got me here as long as I change that behavior. Only one week to go!!

    February 28th

I live in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. I have 3 kids and my youngest is due to graduation this spring. My oldest daughter is the mother of 3 adorable grandchildren. I want to be able to play and run around with them, not just sit around on the couch because I don't have the energy. I want to be around many more years so I am praying that this is the way to accomplish that. I am really glad to have others to talk to about it who are experiencing the same thing.

    February 28th

Hello--I am new here and saw your post and my surgery is scheduled for February 28th, too. Very excited, nervous, anxious, and almost oblivious to other things as my mind is thinking of this all the time. I think that Feb 28 though is a great day for surgery. Good luck with yours and we will have to touch base again.
