    Constipation and burping

Were you on any liquid preoperative diet? If you have no real food going in it won't be coming out. That was a question I had, too.

    5 Weeks post op update

Wow--that is rude, even if he is a busy doc. I love my surgeon and he is so personable and interested in what is going on with my new life. Hopefully your PCP is up on the sleeve as some are not. It amazes me because it seemed like they should know but there are some that do not. You should let your surgeon's facility know what happened though. Everyone should be accountable how they treat patients.
  3. Mine went very smooth with the hospital and surgeon I went with and the bariactric clinic. Everyone's journey is unique and some are much easier than others. Consider yourself blessed and that it is meant to happen. That is what I figured. Even the insurance did not take that long and then it was real. I count myself very fortunate and feel for those less so. It is not a bad sign.

    Fluid retention

My first week postoperative appointment I was retaining that fluid, felt bloated, and by the second week postoperative appointment it dropped. I could just tell and the scale told the tale. I am assuming everyone is a little different but it is your body's way of healing and it will come off.

    200lb March

I take solids slow and easy. Can't do much and figure there is plenty of time for more food. I feel fine after I am done and may be hungry later, but I am trying to do more protein food rather than shakes per my surgeon's request. Some days I have to have more shakes than other because some solids are easier than others. One day at a time.

    200lb March

My surgery was also February 28th and as of Monday I was down 33 pounds. Have had a few interesting things happen since then with being ill with gastroenteritis (nothing to do with the sleeve), but feel like I am back on track. Congratulations 200 lb March--that is amazing weight loss.

    I am scared to death

I think almost everybody has that nervousness fear but looking ahead to the future is what got me through the fear. Once it was done I was able to look forward for the first time in a long time. It felt like I was always waiting to get on the losing train and kept hopping on and falling off over and over. Now I am seated firmly on the train and heading to my goal and I am so glad I am finally on for good. Good luck and best wishes.
  8. What a change. You have got to feel really good. Congratulations on your success.

    One year surgiversary!

Congratulations!! You look great. I always hate how dressing room mirrors make me look but I am hoping in a year's time I will feel differently!

    Help Post Op Sleevers!

Well I had a very similar situation not too long ago where I actually passed out and when I went to the ER it was decided that my beta blocker (treatment for blood pressure) was to blame and so I was taken off of it and have had no problems. That might not have anything to do with your situation, but if you are on any meds, please check with your regular doctor to check on that. Dehydration is another thought. Also, I have had dizziness from way before I was sleeved that is called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and is caused by an inner ear situation that can be easily cured with some physical therapy maneuvers, but that would never cause you to black out, just be dizzy. There are a lot of situations so getting it checked out would be a good idea. Hope it all works out for you.
  11. It will be so exciting for your kids to know in the future that Mom is coming with us because she feels so much better and in so much better shape. Good for you and your decision. Use that comment to help you if you are struggling with your liquid phase or any time you may have a little struggle. Good luck on your adventure.

    1 Week Protein

I found some unflavored protein powder at a health food store in town if you cannot wait for an order to get there. It has helped to put it with different things like pudding, diet juice, etc.
  14. Well last night about 3:30 in the morning I got up for a CPAP issue and thought I would check out the restroom since I was up. The next thing I know I am on the bathroom floor on all four with a sore head and water running. My husband came to my rescue to discover that I had passed out and hit my head on the toilet breaking it. While he was attending to that, I stood up and passed out again. I did not even know I stood up. Needless to say, I ended up in the ER and after all the tests it was discovered that I had positive orthostatic vital signs which meant that my pulse rate would drop quite a bit when I stood up and I was dehydrated. I thought I was doing okay with my fluids, knew it was not great, but I need to do more. Also, I have to stop my beta blocker which is the second medication that I have had to stop since surgery, which is a good thing. That should help the pulse rate drop. Blood pressure was okay. A little sore today, must have hit the side of my body against the counter or something, but I am glad that I know what happened and can fix it. Just want all those not too far out to REALLY be careful about fluids and check in with your regular doctor, too, regarding any meds you may be on that may change with your new sleeve. Lesson learned today.
  15. I know--it does sound funny but it was so freaky to both of us that he has not teased me at all. Wait a minute, he has too. He asked me tonight if I said good-bye to the old toilet that was now outside. I said I did not want anything to do with it anymore. He said "Since you kissed it the other night I thought you would at least want to say goodbye to it" Funny man.

I didn't either. Healing was the only thing that mattered.

    Flavorless protein

I found an unflavored protein powder in a local health food store and use it in Diet Splash and have used it in pudding. Don't think I have used it in anything else as of yet. I like having that option.

    February Sleevers

Surgery was 2/28 and as four weeks out I was down 29 pounds. Trying not to weigh all the time--don't want to make it all about the scale.
  19. I am just a few days after you and a week out on soft foods. I either have an egg or cream of wheat with protein powder or a homemade protein shake. For lunch I have had either leftovers or tuna with lite mayo, soup blended or mushed, cottage cheese. I may have to have something if I have too much time between and have either a cheese stick or a wedge or maybe a protein drink. I have had roasted chicken (sorry you don't like it), fish and this time it was tilapia. I had ham today because of Easter but usually don't have that. There is not enough protein without the shakes so hopefully you can find something you like. There is the unflavored protein powder that has been a big help because it can go in other things. Not much help but hopefully you can find what you need and like.

    help!

To shrink my liver I was put on a protein diet with 3 shakes a day, 1 protein soup and 1 protein bar a day. That was my preop diet for 10 days. Must of worked okay bc there were no problems in that regard. Good luck!

    Am i missing sonething?

My surgeon did the leak test in the OR. I asked him about it and that is the only one he does. I also did not have any drains. I am 3 weeks out and am feeling fine. I trust my surgeon and his confidence. You should be fine.
  22. Praying for you now. Praying you get total healing and home safe.
  23. No you are not evil. I was telling someone about my husband, who basically does the same thing. A week out from surgery we were in a neighboring town and had done some shopping and running around and suddenly he was hungry and had to have a burger. I luckily had just bought some protein powder in individual packets and bought a milk and while he ate his double burger and fries I had my protein shake. He is always saying he feels guilty while he is eating in front of me, and I tease him that he should, but in reality we will have to endure this situation many times, many places and I just tease him and he knows it. You just might have to have a heart to heart with your hubby and let him know how much you appreciate his help, but that sometimes this is hard for us. Teasing is a way of letting him off the hook without letting him off completely. Good luck.

    Sleep Apnea

I first had the mask and my dogs (no joke) ate my mask twice so I put it off for several years until I was so tired I could hardly function and went back for another study and got the nasal pillows this time. It took me a couple nights to adjust and I have to find that spot, but I do like it better than the mask just because it is less covering my face. I thought I had made a mistake using them instead of the mask but now that I am used to it I don't think I would switch back. I know there are a lot of adjustments--had to adjust how tight I had it and getting it just right. I hope you find where it is comfortable for you but maybe the mask might be better. Good luck.
  25. Welcome! I am fairly new, just had surgery Feb 28 and am so looking forward to the future. I tried many diets myself and always gained it back and then some. I have a supportive family and coworkers and friends so that is very helpful. Some of them will never understand what I have gone through and the decision I have made but that is okay--I know all the reasons and am very happy with my decision. This site has been great to get information and suggestions. Again, welcome and good luck.
