  1. I had surgery 2/28 and I am down 48 pounds. Had a good follow-up appointment with my surgeon and I am feeling really well. Looking forward to being much more active this summer.
  2. It is amazing what excites us in the beginning.

    Post op gain

VSGKirk is right--I could feel the swelling after the surgery and I could feel when it went away. Your body is reacting to what it just went through so keep on doing what you know you are supposed to do. It will come back off. This is just the beginning.

    New to VST

Welcome--it has been quite an adventure and exciting to look ahead. Good luck with your appointment.

    Morning Glory

Good luck and welcome!! It is an exciting journey.

    V8

No problems when I drank it. I also like V8 fusion lite and V8 Splash diet for a juice that is low calorie. I had unflavored protein powder to the fruit juice varieties and that is good.

    5k color run!

It is coming to South Dakota and would like to do it, just the same weekend as some other committments so I will have to see. It looks like fun, although it also looks like there is a lot of "dust" in the air. Wondering about that. I was sleeved 2/28 and I did a 5K for the bariatric group I am with on 4/27 so I was 8 weeks out. You may want to just play it by ear and see how you are feeling, but walking is always good for you.

    A day in my world...

I think the people who are saying this do not understand what it is really all about and they are saying things because they are scared and uninformed. I had comments from people and smart remarks, but those are all but a memory now as the weight is coming off and I am feeling better and doing better. It is hard enough with support, so I am sorry those closest are not very supportive. It is nice your friend has lost 40 pounds, good for him. The fact is you are not him and it may come off, but how well is it going to stay off? You have to make this decision for you and I hope you find the support you need to make the decision you are most comfortable with. Good luck and stay strong.

    Weight Watchers

I had gone to Weight Watchers several times over the years, sometimes I did very well, others not so well. I actually liked the support and topics, and even thought about some of the tools, etc., but life after the sleeve is so different than it was before when I could really use those tools that I don't think I would get my money's worth. If you are wanting support, hopefully you can get that through a support group at your bariatric clinic or even on line. The points, etc., will not be very helful as I don't think I will ever be able to eat like I did on Weight Watchers. The things I learned there are helpful, but really your nutritionist and physician will be your guides after sleeve.

    Sleeved today!

Congratulations to all of you new sleevers. What an exciting journey ahead.
  11. I used to enjoy a good buffet, but now the thought of spending that kind of money and not able to eat much seems like a waste to me. I do not miss it at this point. I was sleeved 2/28 and there are times I think I miss eating more, but when I see the results of NOT eating like that, I don't miss it at all. I did enjoy a great dinner at Red Lobster a few days before I started the liqiud preop diet and so I made my peace there. These moments of missing stuff like that is fleeting at times. Way better than eating a buffet and wishing I was "in the club."

    Carbonation - is there any?

As I understand it the carbonation stretches the stomach, imagine all those gassy little bubbles. I have not tried any, am only 2 months out. There are definitely times I would love to have a soda but am a little concerned regarding it.
  13. I try to keep some kind of protein bar or nuts or pick up a greek yogurt. Since almost nothing has any nutritional value at the venues, having something available is your best bet or packing a lunch ahead of time. We don't have some of those luxuries any more but it is okay. We are eating better now so we have to think ahead. Next time you will do better. It will be fun to come up with smart new ideas for times like that. By the end of the season you will be a seasoned pro.

    can I still eat out?

Won't at first. Are you talking about frozen meals? I have had a few at work but there is a lot I cannot eat so I eat the meat and throw what I cannot eat. Still works okay.

    Subway?

I love Subway but have only been there once since surgery and I had an egg, ham and cheese on flatbbread but when I got it home I took it off the flatbread basically and just had the rest. I had a 6 inch that made it three meals. I have not done much for salads yet but I did the chicken salad before surgery a lot and loved that. I have seen where some people also have them "dig" out the bread so it is just the outside of the bread. It is still a lot, but saves some. I would also toast it, which I did not use to do, but since toast is easier on the sleeve than regular bread. Just an idea. You could probably even ask them to put your "sandwich" in a bowl (like the salad is) and just put what you want on it like vegetables without the bread. I have to come up with something, too, because my family likes it a lot, too.

    bread

Bread is not recommended as it gets gummy in your stomach. Toasted bread is okay though.
  17. Are you on any meds? I had an issue where I passed out once, well twice in a 5 minute period, and ended up in the ER and they ended up taking me off my blood pressure medicine because everything else was fine. I have had no further issues. The doc also reinforced how important fluids are so make sure you are keeping up with those.
  18. It is SO different after surgery compared to presurgery. I struggled with the preop diet but I gave it my all because more than anything I wanted a safe surgery. Part of the reason the sleeve is so successful is how different it is after the surgery. If it were easy before we wouldn't need the surgery, right? If you have gone through all the hoops to get where you are, you will be just fine. Have faith.
  19. I get excited when I sit in a chair where my hips don't touch each side!!! I get excited when I have a pile of clothes to take to the second-hand store because they are too big!!! I get excited when those clothes I have been saving for when I lose weight I am actually able to wear!!

    Gall Bladder

I had heard prior to having the surgery that it was a common procedure in (if I am not mistaken) any of the procedures, but other than that I do not know much so not much help. Sorry.

    Hungry

Protein shakes, jell-o, SF Powerade, green tea, broth, anything liquid, sugar free. It was actually a time when I was pretty good about getting liquids in. I had a really hard time with protein soup, for some reason they just did not sit right with me but regular broth I enjoyed. I actually was more intense on liquids than protein and that was fine with my surgeon (for the first couple weeks). It went faster than I thought it would and I survived. Of course, it was harder preoperative than postoperative but that part makes sense. Anyway, hope you find what helps to get you through. It will be a different stage before you know it. Good luck

1 yr 4 mos post op

Is your depression because of the stall or did you stall because you are depressed? Look at where you were and how far you have come and do some reflection. You are far more important to give up now so get back on track, start walking or whatever will make you feel better as long as it is moving, and start eating what your body NEEDS not what your brain thinks it wants. You are worth it.
  23. What an incredible journey you have had. I am so sorry that it was such a difficult one. I truly hope and pray your journey turns a corner and you can finally heal and get well. I can truly relate to wanting to get healthy and for you to have such an unhealthy turn of events is such a bummer. Again, I hope it turns around for you.
  24. About a week and a half ago I had a bout of gastroenteritis that did not have anything to do with the sleeve so that is a possibility with yours. If so Imodium could have put the skids on getting the yuck out. Or possibly not. At 3 weeks out I was still phase 2 liquid so there was not much else going in or out for that matter.
  25. How exciting for you!! Now on to the next goal!! Congratulations.
