    3 weeks out

I'm 2 weeks out and am down 8 pounds since surgery date. Not freaking out because I'm actually thrilled that the scale isn't going up! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    New here! Any low BMIers?

I was sleeved march 29 with a BMI of 32. When I started my preop diet at 206 (I'm 5'5") and was 189 the day of surgery. I started my preop diet 3 weeks before my surgery date, not because I had to, but just because I was sick of eating junk. I gained 9 pounds in the hospital which took a week and a half to lose Now I'm 14 days out and at 181 and BMI of 30. That's a 25 pound loss in 5 weeks with a low BMI! I'm still on full liquids but am going to try eggs in a couple of days. I'm getting 70gm of Protein a day...mostly shakes witha little Greek yogurt and a few saltines. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself! Day 2 was the hardest, and I stayed on sublingual Toradol for 5 days. My only complaint is a horrible itchy reaction to the tegaderm. You'll be fine! Post op march sleevers

I also have only lost 6 pounds since surgery 2 weeks ago. I gained 9 while in the hospital and it took over a week to lose the water weight. But I'm not worried....taking in only 600 cal/a day, it's got to come off!

    Florance vs Mi hospital

<<<<I was at Mi and I didn't have the third test where I drink the blue stuff, but the doctors ordered that test for other patients. I even asked the nurses about it and they checked my charts and said "oh no, you don't need to do that one". So it seems it can vary from doctor to doctor and even from patient to patient. I suspect they didn't give me the test because I was off the IV the day after surgery and getting all my hydration from drinking my liquids... I drank 80 ounces that first day.. I guess if I had a leak something would have shown up in my drain! >>>> Nobody Is examining the contents of your drain to see if there is any Jello in there. The first test was in the OR before closing. They instill saline into your abdomen and then fill your sleeve with air. If there's a leak they see bubbling. In the States this is often the only leak test done, but glad I had two additional tests with dr Garcia, as nasty as they were. ( actually not that horrible). I wouldn't get hung up on the leak tests. We are lucky there are so many skilled surgeons doing this procedure in Mexico. Sounds like you can't go wrong with Kelly, Cabrera, Garcia, etc. I

    Florance vs Mi hospital

In my stay at Florence March 29, only WLS patients were on our wing. Also, we had both postop leak tests while we were there. Didn't have to go anywhere. I am not discounting your experience there 2 years ago, but how it happened for you is not how it was for me only a few weeks ago.

    So many Dr's in Mexico!…help!

Dr Fernando Garcia did my sleeve 10 days ago at Florence/oasis hospital in Tijuana. Two nights hospital, two night at the Mariott. Hospital rooms at florence have a double bed for a companion. Really big rooms. Price $4700 includes everything but your airplane ticket and tips for driver and hotel staff. I'm very happy with my experience! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  8. I'm only a little over a week out, and I don't think I'll have any regrets. What I am struggling with, though, is to try to understand why I couldn't do it without the surgery? I'm pretty disappointed in myself....why couldn't I exercise? Or limit my portions? Or drive by a fast food joint and not go through the drive through? I'm confident that after 6 months I'll be able to have a little of anything, so I'm not really mourning food or the rediculous huge portions I had before. But I'm just disappointed in myself for having to have chosen surgery. Deborah Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Idk how to lie?!?

Look up "lie" in the search option and you'll find about a hundred threads on this subject. I'd you were having, let's say, a rectal fistula repair, would that change your response? You are under NO obligation, moral, ethical or otherwise to disclose your personal health information to anyone! Except your primary medical provider.... My response when someone is bold enough to ask, "did you do IVF?".....perfect strangers, waitresses, etc, is "wow...that's a really personal question." You get to decide who to tell, regardless of what you'll read on this or any other forum. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  10. Hey girls.... Still haven't weighed yet. Partner won't give me back the scale until I'm 2 weeks postop since I'm an obsessive weigher. I gained 4kg/9lbs while in the hospital (same scale), and the friggin scale at the marriott had me up 17 pounds? ! ? Was in clears for a week, struggling with water not because of the sleeve, but just because I'm such a poor water drinker. Doing same as cindysc with protein...about 50gm/day. Moms with kids...get a babysitter! The one I had arrange to come the day I got home didn't show, so I struggled post op day 5 with the four human critters. Had a MAJOR meltdown! But day 6 on has been fine on my own. Can't weight to weigh in Friday! Prettyinpink...did you get Eva's contact info? Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Dr Garcia SPIDER TECHNIQUE

There is a big difference between a single incision and a hidden incision. Make sure to clarify with the SURGEON and not a coordinator what you are signing up for. The single incision makes sense if you know you are getting a tummy tuck and don't want even tiny scars showing. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Florance vs Mi hospital

I would recommend Oasis/Florence because I had a great experience. The lobby was very modern and nice, but the facilities are basic and in need of minor cosmetic repairs. Hmm, kinda like a Motel 6. And I thought the bed was very comfortable with a fluffy comforter and plenty of blankets. But it's not at all fancy. I'm not sure I would consider it neccesarily an "upgrade." I chose Oasis because of all the complaints about traffic and honking outside of MiDoctor. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Pre-op liquid diet?

Re:wanting to chew... Try frozen fruit pops. You get to bite into something and it's still considered a clear liquid. FYI...the fastest growing cells in the human body are located in.... The liver! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Prettynpink headed to Mexico!

I was at Oasis the same time as Prettyinpink and I can echo everything she said with a few exceptions. I was very fortunate not to have a lick of nausea, and my Mariott room was very peaceful. For $20/night I upgraded to a golf course view room with a little balcony. It was great to sit out in the sun in my PJs. Things I brought but didn't need: earplugs...fleece blanket, Protein shakes. Things I'm glad I brought: heating pad, my own pillow, portable DVD player, sugar free Werthers, 100$ in ones and fives for tipping room service, bellboys, driver, housekeepers. Everyone in Tijuana takes dollars...taxis, plateta sellers on the street. Love the lemon ice. "nieve" (nee-ay-vee) Things I wish I had brought but didn't: hmmmm, nothing I can think of. But if I didn't speak Spanish I could have used a basic phrase book, especially for medical stuff. And if you hurt after surgery, even at 3 in the morning, get your butt out of bed and walk a couple of laps. You will feel so much better. Doing okay on fluids, I guess, but the biggest challenge is being home taking care of the kids all day. The two year old accidentally elbowed me in the belly getting up to couch. That made the second meltdown of the day. But no regrets at all. Oh, I gained 9 pounds during my stay and my partner hid the scale and won't let me weigh for at least 2 weeks.

    Prettynpink headed to Mexico!

We didn't have to show anything going to Mexico. The car just pulled up to a light, and if it flashed green you got to go through without having to show your passport. On the way back it's typical to be asked on the US side "what was the purpose of your visit?" and you just tell the truth "I had surgery." no biggie.

  17. Dr Garcia did my surgery on Friday at the Oasis hospital. Everyone was so nice; the docs speak very good English. Dr. Garcia came into my room with an iPad and drew little colored pictures of the surgery, showing the external incisions and drain placement. Two of the physicians have had bariatric surgery themselves and gave some firsthand advice on post op care and diet. I had zero nausea...but two of the ladies had a rough time with nausea. I'm up and about now at the Marriott trying to sip sip sip water. I can 100% recommend Dr Garcia and his team. I would send any of my family members there. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Prettynpink headed to Mexico!

Just had a nice walk with prettyinpink...she looks great! I had a good day-not even a bit of nausea since the surgery, and the nurses bring pain and nausea meds on a schedule. But I walked a lot today and am very sore. The staff here are all vey nice. Deborah Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Dr. Fernando Garcia

FYI...the multiple incisions are tiny, but they probably won't be removed in a tummy tuck because they are above the belly button. But I guess it would depend on your starting size. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Easter in Mexico!

As far as I call tell it's like a rural community hospital. Very clean, people are VERY nice. Bed is comfortable with cozy comforter. The equipment is older than what you would see on the US...X-rays aren't digital, older model EKG machine, IV pump, blood pressure machine. But nothing that impacts care. I'm being taken back in 15 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Easter in Mexico!

I'm in room3 at florence hospital. I think I'm the last one for today and the doc just came in and said I should go peepee because they were coming to get me in 15 minutes. OMGOMGOMG. Cindysc is done and is tearing up the halls. Am I the only ine who wonders if 100 years from now people look back at what we are doing and say it was barbaric? Any March 29 Sleevers?

Hi, girls. My surgey time is between 12:00 and 1:30 on the 29th at Florence/oasis hospital in Tijuana. Prettyinpink, did you switch to there? Anybody getting done at Mi Doctor on the 29th or did everybody switch? Today is the first day of clear liquid and it the first time I've been hungry since starting the preop diet a couple of weeks ago. Made some Jello and am waiting for it to set. I've been packed for a month but am starting to get anxious about forgetting something. Got $100 in ones and fives for tipping and Water, etc. Gobbled up all my sugar-free Werther's and need to get some more. Otherwise I'm all set. Sent from my iPhone using VST
