  1. Do you like grits? I bought a Jimmy Dean turkey sausage breakfast bowl the other day for two bucks at Walmart. It will make about 4 meals for me. I emptied the contents into a freezer bag' date=' and then zapped me a small bowl...added extra cheese and a tad of mild picante sauce and it was great :)[/quote']

I tried one of the bowls this morning and it was good, but too much egg and it turned me off after a while. It's so weird cause I normally love eggs, but lately even the smell of them is turning me off.

  2. Breakfast food idea

Mix Egg beaters & 1 egg

    Turkey sausage

    Onion

Any other veggies and or small amount of cheese (i like Spinach & a touch of mozzarella)

Pour mixture into small muffin pan cups (3/4 full)

Cook at 350 for 30 mins

    Makes 12 small breakfast cups...

Bag 1 or 2 in ziploc bags and refrigerate.

Pop in microwave in AM for 30 sec and you're ready to go for the week

This sounds delicious and easy to have on hand. Will give it a try...thanks!

  3. Grits are dried ground hominy. It's kind like malt-o-meal but definitely a southern thing. Depending on what part of the US your in you would either put sugar or salt in them. Never understood the salt thing lol :)

I prefer my grits savory. As a kid I ate them with sugar but as an adult I prefer cheese or onions in mine.

  4. I'm 7 months out and still can't really stomach much for Breakfast. I just don't feel like eating. I'll have a cup of tea first thing' date=' then a small yoghurt or cheese and crackers for morning tea. What are grits?[/quote']

I also start my day with green tea with lemon. I usually don't eat anything solid til almost 10 am. Grits are a hot Cereal made of hominy. Don't really know how else to explain them but they are really popular down south. (I'm from TX).

  5. I drink a premier shakes ready made and they really fill me up and they are yummy at 4 months out.

But a lot of people make smoothie type Protein shakes with some added fruit .

I am also burnt out on those Premier shakes! Been drinking those since pre-op. I drink one on the way home from work but they are too thick for me to stomach in the morning.

  6. Breakfast is kinda a boring meal. Not much choice really! Normally I just have a Protein shake. But some days I like an egg scramble with salsa and cheese. Or an egg scramble with sausage and mushrooms and spinach.

I like getting in mostly Protein to keep me going. The cereals really don't stay with me very long.

I haven't tried any cereals yet, but maybe I'll experiment with shakes and see how that works for me. Thanks! I do the egg variation thing but that's pretty much my only option or the grits which does not have much protein, if any.

That sounds good...thanks! I love grits but I have been eating them pretty much everyday and I need a break from them.

  8. I am now 8 weeks post op and my Nut has cleared me to eat pretty much anything. I am having a hard time with Breakfast options. I am burnt out on grits & eggs and I don't like any of the other hot cereals (oatmeal, cream of wheat, malt o meal). Any good good options y'all have tried for breakfast???? Thanks!

  9. Thanks gang! It's good to know it won't be this way much longer. I am still learning how to chew 30 times...that one is a hard one for me. I stop eating after a few bites even if I have room for more cause I get frustrated with chewing and the pitter patter of food traveling down to my stomach. Glad to know there's hope for the future.

  10. I'm a month post op as of yesterday. I have lost 19 lbs since the day of surgery and 39 lbs total since starting this journey in November. I am adapting well and enjoying the results but eating has become such a chore. It's often painful to swallow even soft foods and I can feel every morsel going into my pouch. Will it always be like this or will this feeling fade over time?

  11. I think we need to be careful that we aren't so secretive about the surgery' date=' had a friend of mine not been open to me about it, I would not have known about it vsg. I am a band to sleeve revision so I'm not announcing to the world look what I did BUT if someone genuinely asks me and I think this is something that would help them I will share.

I do understand the judgment of others, I have a brother that was so impressed with my 80lb weight loss with my band ( he didn't know I had lap band) as I'm getting ready to tell him he says " see, hard work gets you there, you don't need any weight loss surgery" I decided he didn't need to know. He's never had a weight problem so he has no clue.

Being selective is good but being somewhat open is also good :)

Janarae, I have no problem sharing with those who are genuine but these are nosey folks at work who don't need to lose one single pound. It's almost to a level of intrusiveness so that's why I asked.

  12. Yesterday marked 3 weeks post op for me. Day of surgery I weighed 225, and after losing then gaining then losing again, I am now down to 209! So close to 1derland that I can finally get excited. My issue is that people are starting to notice my rapid weight loss and asking me what I'm doing. I have been called "skinny" so many times this week, all I can do is laugh (cause I'm still far from skinny). I don't feel it's anybody's business but those who I've already shared with about my surgery. For those who chose to go this route and keep it your business, what did you tell me when they asked about your weight loss? Or your new eating habits? Just curious cause I wanna say none of your business, but I don't want to be rude! Lol

  13. So this is just a vent cause I know the other half of my stomach is gone for good' date=' but so far I am regretful. I weighed myself this morning before my 2 week post op appt today and I have gained 4 lbs. Really? So I cut out half my stomach and eat purée foods and liquids for three weeks straight to gain weight? Heck, I was losing before the surgery and now I get the sleeve done and I'm gaining! Totally frustrated and can't wait to see the doc today so I can vent to him too and hopefully find out what the heck I'm doing wrong! Sigh...frustrated, hungry, regretful and still fat. dde14[/quote']

Ok gang...here's the update. First off, my doctor's scale only showed me gaining 2 lbs instead of 4. Doc said my weight gain is probably due to coming off hydrochlorothiazide which is the diuretic I was previously on for my blood pressure. He said I am probably retaining Water and that is causing the weight gain so I have been advised to go back on the pills and that should make a difference...so we'll see!! I'm also not taking in enough Protein so I have to work on that as well. Fingers crossed that this will jump start the weight loss again.

  14. Thanks everyone! This site has been my saving grace over the last two weeks cause without it I feel I would be so depressed! You all give good feedback and advice and it really helps a lot.

My appt is this afternoon so I will keep y'all posted. I stopped getting on the scale everyday last Friday because it was driving me crazy. Only reason I got on this morning is to compare what my scale says to what it says at the doc's office today. I actually feel like I've been able to eat more purée food than I should be able to, but it's still been less than 600 calories a day. I'm just over critical I suppose and ready for a change. I try to remind myself that I didn't gain it overnight so I won't lose it overnight either, but I surely didn't expect to be gaining either. Hopefully I will look back at this post in a few months and laugh at myself for being so silly and hard on myself.

  16. This should be fun! I'm 10 days post op and I confess:

    1. I am worried that I will not lose weight like all the other success stories I read.

    2. I'm tired of purée food and I'm not even suppose to be eating them for another week.

    3. Oh yeah, I cheated in week 2 and skipped creamy liquids and went straight to purée food.< /p>

    4. I'm jealous that my family can still eat whatever they want. It sucks even more cause I do all the grocery shopping and cooking for them. It's pure torture!

    5. I am not getting all my Protein each day and I am ready to workout and lose some damn weight!

  17. I was given clearance to begin the elliptical and recumbent bike 7 days post op. I had surgery Monday and started the elliptical the following Monday. Basically doc said' date=' no lifting, but I can do anything physically that does not cause me pain.

I do hold on to the rails for some of the elliptical workout because I'm still healing and my core still hurts. I don't want to screw with that area.

I'm an 'ants in the pants' kind of gal and I was grateful![/quote']

I have ants in the pants too!! Lol...I need activity to jump start my weight loss again. I am going to do the MJ Experience on the Wii. It's always a fun workout for me and not too strenuous. I think I should be safe doing that as there are not too many ab moves. Thanks for the feedback!

  18. Today makes 10 days since my surgery. I was 225 day of surgery and 7 days out, I was down to 216. I weighed myself this morning and I'm at 219! What is really going on? I started purée food Friday but I have yet to eat more than 600 calories a day and that is way less food than I ever eaten in a day! I am in panic mode about this weight gain and wondering if this sleeve was a bad idea. Anybody else experience this?
