Likewise, check with your doc or pharmacist on specific instructions, but think of sucrafate (and the currently much more expensive liquid version, carafate) as industrial strength Pepto Mismol (at least the description in their commercials) in that it coats the stomach to protect it and relieve irritation, allowing it to heal. Eating or drinking after taking it washes it away.

My gastro put me on it for a while, and when talking to him about this - that since I ate 5-6 meals a day and drank Water in between, it didn't make sense to follow the typical directions. He said, 'you're right, just take it overnight.' Now, that was fine for my needs, but may not be appropriate for you, so talk to your doc.

Thank you! This nausea is a killer!

Give your pharmacist a call. They can tell you the specifics. I think I am supposed to wait at least 30 min before eating or drinking anything. Honestly, it is nigh unto impossible for me to take it appropriately 4 times a day as directed. I have to separate it an hour from the omeprazole which is supposed to be on an empty stomach and 30 minutes before a meal. I can't get all the timing down correctly on work days, as my lunch time is so erratic and I have to eat more than 3 times a day just to get enough calories in. Furthermore, most docs say it doesn't do much, anyway. The omeprazole is what makes the real difference for me, although I hope I will not be on it much longer, due to long term side effects. If you are having problems, maybe it is related more to the position or adjustment of the band.

I am a revision patient. I was sleeved on 1-30. My main reason for taking this medication is because I’m nauseous all day. My doc thought this may help me. I am only supposed to take mine 3x a day. He also gave me zofran.

I developed an ulcer and have to take Omeprazole and sucralfate for 3 months. Everyone told me how bad it would taste. I don't think it tastes like anything, to tell the truth. Maybe a little chalky, but not horrible or bitter or anything like that. Don't drink a chaser - i think that sort of defeats the purpose. It is supposed to coat the lining of the stomach and duodenum. You are also supposed to take it on an empty stomach.

How long before you can drink? I know it’s 1 hour before food, is it the same for liquids?

  4. Who was given this to take? My doc prescribed this to me because of my severe nausea. I have to dissolve it into Water before taking and take it as a shot. Question: can I drink a chaser after? I’m assuming it’s going to taste horrible 🤢 I know I can’t eat, but what about drinking?

  5. @calicotrixie Mine does the same! Although my stomach always feels a little unsettling. It’s nauseous on and off almost everyday. My dr. Said I’m still healing but doesn’t really have an answer. Everyone’s body responds differently in this journey. I’m just hoping this is an adjustment period since it’s still new, and it doesn’t last forever. I’m questioning my choice at this point😪 I also can barely eat much and dr said maybe nausea may be due to the lack of food. I’m barely getting 3 meals a day. I just can’t seem to stomach food!

  6. I am 23 days post op and on soft foods now per my doc. Ever since surgery, when I eat, my stomach never feels settled or “normal”. I wouldn’t say I’m nauseous, but it’s close to it. I can only eat very little. A few ounces at most so I’m not over eating. I’m waiting 30-1 hour before drinking fluids again. I thought eating soft foods might make my stomach feel “normal” again but it hasn’t. Is this just because my stomach is still healing you think? I force myself to eat because I know I need to, but my stomach feels the same before I eat and after I eat. It’s hard to explain. I can only say that it does not feel like a normal stomach feels if that makes sense🤣 Most people say they feel “normal” after 2-3 weeks. I always feel sickly, but not to the point of throw up. Any advice or similar experiences are greatly appreciated. I see my doc for follow up on Wednesday. Also, I am a revision patient. Lap Band to Sleeve.

  8. I was banded in 2013. My starting weight was 226 and my lowest was 149. I have had nothing but problems with my band since the beginning. Back and forth to the doctor, a lot of discomfort and pain and just a rough quality of life the past few years with eating. For 2 years, I was a consistent 155, but could not seem to lose any more weight and the number this last year has crept up to 170! I want to get a revision, but I'm afraid I'm not "obese enough" to have it. Any help on this topic would be so appreciated. I'm terrified to have nothing and regain all my weight so i continue living like this....please help.

  9. Hey guys

Please tell me your opinions....I got my second fill 9 days ago. After liquids the first few days, food didn't go down that well, some better than others. Today at lunch I had a taco salad with no issues....felt great again. dinner I became stuck again like I have been with almost every meal. Had a small piece of chicken and got so many stuck moments until I said forget it..... Is this dangerous? I called my Dr and they said to try and let it loosen a bit more with extra liquids or come in for a unfill. It's hard, because some meals I feel fine and others it's the worst feeling. I have never thrown up due to this but I'm starting to get scared these stuck episodes might hurt my band or my stomach.....thoughts? Should I continue to give it more time.....I'm ok with that as it will eventually loosen. I just don't want to do any damage with these stuck episodes. PLEASE :)

  10. Yes, I can get liquids and Soup down....I have not pb or spit up at all. I eat salad with no issues, it's only everything else...lol. Last night I was awake with heartburn which I have never experienced.....ouch! I had split pea soup with ham for dinner which I've eaten a million times with no issues or heartburn....this gets so confusing :( I have no problem with waiting it out....I just don't want there to be anything wrong or something. I'm so paranoid about doing something wrong

    :-/

  11. Hi guys,

Can you help me out with your experiences? I got my second fill last Wed. It was a little too tight afterwards so they took some out. I was on liquids for a few days, bit when I started eating food again I noticed when I swallowed my food I had a pain in my chest, almost a burning sensation. I wouldn't say it was excruciating, but it hurts :) I'm thinking maybe I'm still swollen? I take small bites and I always chew my food to mush. This happened yesterday with a small slice of cheese....advice?

  12. Hi all....i need your advice :) i got my first fill 3 weeks ago. It helped with Portion Control at the beginning, but i feel like my portions are getting bigger and im craving more between meals. Wondering if my doctor will administer another fill now or do I have to wait another 3 weeks? They said after my appointment to come back around 6 weeks for my next one. Im losing, but very slowly. Im fine with that, i just really want restriction improved so i dont gain ;( Thoughts?

  13. What are your rules after fills? I had My first one and I'm kind of mad....lol. My doc said 7 days of Clear Liquids. I just feel beat down. I paid all this money to help with hunger control and restriction and I feel as if I have been starving 3 weeks out of the 6 I have been doing this :( Trying to stay motivated and positive, but hunger is taking over and making me miserable. I needed to vent....cheer me up :)

  14. Hey guys.....what were your instructions after your first fill? My doc said 7 days of Clear Liquids and others I have talked to only had to do this between 24hrs to 2 days following a couple days of soft. I'm just frustrated because you pay all this money to help with hunger and restriction and I have literally been starving for 3 weeks of a 6 week life change. Just a little frustrated. .....sorry guys, need to encouragement.

  15. I was just banded on Wednesday Sept. 4, 2013. I could not wait for my implant. I never had a doubt in my mind about getting it but, now I am afraid I made the wrong choice. I have a lot of questions about how I am feeling and I don't have anyone to ask. One question i have is will i ever feel like my normal self again? Please help. I'm In Northwest Houston

This was me 2 days ago and still even now. Everyone kept saying the 4th day you will come around. I'm on my 10th day and I still have bloating, and side cramps where my incisions are. My shoulder and chest pain only went away 2 days ago and I was doing everything as I was told. Everyone recovers at their own pace, I learned this on my own..... lol. Since I'm the newbie and your the vet, tell me.... how are you doing now? Mushies start tomorrow for me and now I'm afraid to chew or eat anything with substance.....ahhhh

feeling a little better maybe we can chat a little. Take care of your self!

Hi there :) I made it so far ...... lol. I had my surgery in Dallas. When are you getting yours?

  17. Hey looking for a buddy in Spring, Tx. I got banded on the 22nd of November. It would be nice to have someone I can chat with or hang out with or work out with that's going through the same thing as me. It's tough facing this journey alone. Besides having my mother in my corner.

Hi :) I was just banded 12/9. I live in Arlington. Would love to chat! I have questions for you since your further along :)

  18. I was banded on the 9th. Today was the first day I woke up with no shoulder pain....yay! :) Im still experiencing left side "runner cramp" type pain, but at least im getting relief even if its going at a slow pace. I can not wait to move up to soft foods.....i dont want to look at Soup for a long ass time :)

  19. Help me out local peeps. I have been having a terrible time. Banded on 12/9. I'm still experiencing some left shoulder pain, a side "runner cramp" type pain and I feel like I have so much pressure on my chest and upper stomach. Is this normal or did anyone experience this? I'm getting better each day, but the pressure and air bubbles in my chest are still full force. Advice? And I'm starving :(
