    Labor Day Challenge!

It's up to you! The spreadsheet goes to tenths, but you can give whole numbers if you want. Okay, thanks! I'll probably use the tenths then....every little bit helps!

    NSV....I DID IT!

I have to confess...run was a bit of a stretch...actually it was more of a jog. That said, I was tickled pink that I could do that much! Not being a smart a**. Some folks can run marathons, and some can "jog" a half block. It's wonderful that we all can experience those moments of victory. Large and small. Losing this weight has been awesome. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

    NSV....I DID IT!

Congratulations! I ran to the store from my car in the parking lot...first time I've actually ran in over 20 years! What could I do, it was raining.

    Do you miss food?

I'm almost 4 months out from my surgery. The thing I have realized lately, is that all the high calorie, empty carb junk I ate, for emotional reasons, was what got me too almost 300 pounds. I'm still in the process of retraining my thinking about food. Because I grew up in the fifties, and my mom made mostly meat and potatoes. I have spent most of my life eating potatoes and lots of bread. I thought I couldn't live without bread. But I'm finding I just don't want to have the extra carbs. I might still have a piece of toast once in a while, or a very small portion of potato or rice, but I just don't have enough room to have that and get all my protein in vegetables in. As for eating out, I do that now occasionally. I think when I look around at my friends, I see that all our gatherings, ALL of our gatherings, revolve around food, and what someone is bringing to eat. It's the same for holidays, just like yesterday the 4th of July. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that it is a big transition. Since we are in our sixties, some of us have had a lifetime of poor eating habits. Mostly the foods I do miss, are the comfort foods. But I'm hoping to find some new comfort foods along the way. I only eat 3 meals a day, no snacks in between. I hope I can continue to learn a healthier lifestyle. Sorry this post is so long :-)

    Horseback riding post-op

I'd wait til October. Beautiful time of year. But you'll know more when you get your surgery date. For me, I wouldn't do it for a bit longer than that. And, I'd worry about the horse getting accidentally spooked, and gettimg thrown. It happens. I think the constant motion early on will be a problem, not to mention all the new things you have to think about, like getting protein in, water, Vitamins, and such. I wouldn't do it..but that's me! You'll have to decide when the time comes. Best of luck making your decision.
  10. Beautiful! You look so much younger!

Any couples out there both sleeved?

Wow!!! That's fantastic! And with a new baby to boot. I bet it really helps to be almost on the same phase (or maybe you are) right now the hardest part for us is, Hubby's is on pre-op liquid diet, and I'm on maintenance. It's tough to cook, and have him smell that. Also, I'm excited about new recipes...but can't really share that, as he doesn't want to talk food. Understandable. He can't watch food commercials...but before long we'll be cooking togeher! You two are rocking it!
  12. I was sleeved in March, and my hubby is scheduled for July 28. Just wondering if there are others out there, and how are you doing?

VSG With Simultaneous Hiatal Hernia Repair

My sleeve was in March, with hernia repair. I was told not to lift anything over 5 pounds for 5 weeks. I accidentally picked up my granddaughter at about 3 weeks, but I was ok. For me it was hard to remember not to lift after about two weeks...but here I am, almost four months out! You'll be fine, just be mindful about lifting.

What you say is so sensible. I think if I'm doing it right 95% of the time, I'll be okay. I met a friend for lunch last week, and decided what to order before hand. It was fine. I actually ate slower, which is one thing I need to work on. I seem to attack my food like I'm starving...when the truth is I'm not even hungry. Lol I'm currently working on finding some healthy, easy, high protein recipes. There are a ton of them out there.

*imsoglad56 I love your indulgence with chicken and beans! Not to mention Chick fil a! My daughter, who was sleeved, likes it as a treat too. We are saving at least that much on groceries, maybe more right now with just my groceries. We have a group of friends that we ate out with once a month, of course that has changed. How have you handled social events like family gatherings, holidays, friends get togethers?

Wow! That's awesome! We didn't think we could do it at the same time. One because our hospital was 2 1/2 hours away, and several other factors made it too difficult. I think it's great you went through it together! Congratulations on your success!!! Hope we can do as well as you two did! How's your grocery bill compared to before?

You're right about eating better costs more...I was thinking volume. Also, we're not buying any junk food, that adds up. Trying to stay away from processed food. It's just the two of us, must be a lot harder with a family!

Ours went WAY down, but hubby is on Optifast from the hospital, and I don't eat much yet. I'm sure after he gets on maintenance after surgery it will go up, but I don't think it will ever be a high as it once was. (Even with buying organic, and healthy protein) we simply won't eat as much

I think there's a special bond when you go through this together. My hubby is excited too!

Wishing him success on his journey. For me, after decades of yoyoing, it wasn't a question of could I take it off, it was always about 'keeping' it off! And because I'm (clearing my throat) older, it's so much harder to lose. Wish the sleeve would have been available in my 40's! Best wishes to you both!

Those darn guys! They usually lose so much faster than us. Slow and steady wins the race (not that it's a race) LOL

I kinda wish our surgeries would have been closer, but I'm glad we'll both be on the same page soon! You're so right about not comparing...of course he is losing way faster on his pre-op diet than I did. Maybe it's better that I got the jump on him! LOL
