I left a message to make my appointment, but haven't heard anything...hopefully they'll call back soon or I'll call them at 1. I'm having pain there too...really that and the shoulder pain is all the pain I'm having. And I'm still wanting to sleep. You're courageous to be going back so early...I took this week off. I needed the time away from work but I wasn't sure how I'd do either.

Hi, all! 3 days post-op here now...doing good...I also have a sore port area and am hoping the shoulder pain goes away. I didn't think I'd have to deal with that much as when they did the barium swallow it showed just a little bitty area of gas...anyone know if this eventually goes away completely or is it something we have to get used to? I had a few bites of cream of wheat this morning. The weird thing is...I'm not hungry. I'm having to make myself drink and eat.

Hi, all. Just a quick checkin...I'm sore but mostly just around where I think my port is. I went home at 8:00 last night. Got to meet Suzzzie...don't worry Suz, you were wonderful and I was extremely groggy myself. Your friend was nice as well. Doing good here at mom's...the kids are understanding to not have mommy pick them up...and I'm not even hungry. Light gas pains. One accident at home that hit my port incision. Uggghhhh. Going to take a shower later...probably won't be on rest of night. Take care everyone!!! And thanks for the support...it's helped a bunch!!!

Suzzzie, I think you're right. I don't feel any other flu symptoms, no fever, so guess it's just normal from the diet. I did mostly liquids on Wednesday...but at dinner time I had a very small portion of the meal I'd cooked for my family. I'd been doing that...liquids for breakfasts and lunches for a week or so now...with a few exceptions. 2 more hours for you!!! 4 1/2 for me! Can't wait!!!

LOL....Hello, Suzanne! I'll definitely take you up on the smoothie time. Oh, and not to worry, my bf told me today that she had forgotten about the clear liquids day and did fine during surgery. BUT...I don't recommend it. I definitely give everyone here who has to do this longer than one day (like us) some extra respect...you all are amazing!!! I have a question for anyone who can answer...but it may sound a little personal. Background: My 3 year old DD has had the stomach flu this week and by God's grace I hadn't picked it up from her...yet. Question: I had been required by my surgeon to do one day of clear liquids before surgery (mine is scheduled in 8 hours from now) ... could that cause diahrea? Has anyone else experienced this? It's only been slight...just once and my stomach isn't rumbling like it normally does with the stomach flu... I don't know whether I need to postpone surgery or not...I'm hoping not. I'd have to wait until at least August.

Happy Birthday, Danielle! Good to hear from everyone! Well...tomorow's the big day for me. I have to be at the center at 11am...surgery at noon. Today I'm doing my clear liquids....So far I 've had some water w/protein powder, orange single serve jello and some Decaf Chai Vanilla Tea. I'm getting ready to go have some broth and a popsicle and maybe some green jello for lunch.

FarmerE: I peeled and diced 1 granny smith apple, combined it with one Boost HP Vanilla shake, granola and blended. I also added some ice to thicken a little. Highly recommend putting through a strainer. Delicious! Was about 23 g. protein. A local smoothie shop does this and they use Vanilla yogurt in theirs...I didn't have any on hand, so I just used my Boost.

Janine, thanks! Yes, friends do come through. Glad to hear about your granddaughter...she's just about 3 months younger than my DS, Robbie. He's so used to mommy picking him up and holding him. My DD, Jewellee, is 3 and she gets it in her head that when she wants someone to hold her only that person can do it...actually it's any task, only the one certain person can do that task....we'll work it out. I love them...and I want to get healthy for them. I just decided yesterday that I was going to make it work, even if I had to stay over at the center and have another friend pick me up Saturday morning. DH's work is one thing...my life is another.

Hi, all! Best of luck to today's banders. Sorry I haven't written in a while...things have been crazy around my house. DH is taking a promotion, but in doing so he's working an evening shift this week to train in a new facility...so I get to leave for work early in the morning, say bye to my DD and DS and work until 4:30 then head to pick them up from my mom's. By the time I get them home it's nearly 6:00 and I start their bedtime routines at 7 and in bed by 8. I was about to give up this week and either cancel or reschedule my appointment. DH can't get off Friday and he's working Sat. and Sun. too. My mom's house is full this weekend (was going to stay w/her for a few days post op since I can't lift my babies) with my nieces and brother. I was really feeling down. BUT I've figured something out..with the help of a good friend/coworker/scrapbooking buddy of mine. My mom will pick up the kids at my house Friday morning and take them with her. DH will drop me off at surgery center and then go to work...hopefully will spend a few minutes with me there. My Friend will come for the surgery and will go to a nearby Panera Bread to work (we work on a newspaper website group...Go KC Star!!! www.kansascity.com | Front Page) and will leave her cell number with the nurses for when I'm out and can have family/visitors. When I'm ready to go home, she'll drive me the 50 minutes to my mom's house. She's so wonderful!!! Suzzzie...we've got 2 more days!!!!!!!! I'm so ready! Captain Dan...I wouldn't think it would be a problem...but just in case, I agree with insubordination...put a couple rolls of quarters in your pockets. Not to scare you...but I saw an episode on the new Bariatric show (can't remember the name...but it's the one we've all been talking about) and one woman's insurance revoked because she was doing so well and the doctor was able to convince them to keep her, but I think she had to go on a different plan. But I've never heard of that anywhere else.... I'm going to go fix a granny smith smoothie before I go to work. Tomorrow's my clear liquid day...and I'm still planning on working. I told my General Manager..."I may be a little cranky...but I'll be here."

Has anyone used an immersible blender before? I got one at Walmart to help me blend in my protein powder into my smoothies and soups.... I just made a strawberry-peach smoothie, but it's a little too thin for me...has onyone tried the IB with ice? Does it work well? I used a Boost HP Strawberry shake, added in some real strawberries, some wheat germ, and a container for Dannon Light & Fit Peaches & Cereal yogurt...for a total of 27g. protein. Tastes great! I just like my smoothies thicker.

Hi, all!! They just called! I'm scheduled for 12:30 on Friday, June 15 with Dr. Scott Ellison of Weight Loss Surgical Center in Overland Park! I'm so excited! :faint: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Lucy, couldn't have said it better myself. I gave up all my diet sodas (DC and DDrP, etc.) nearly 12 + weeks ago. When I took a drink the other day of DDrP it tasted horrible. I love my Crystal Light To Go's....

ML, nice to meet you! That is wonderful about your daughter coming in for your procedure! I work for the media, to an extent...a local paper...but I agree...the images most media puts out gives our girls bad impressions of what the "ideal" look is...and it scares me with my 3 year old. Luckily her perceptions of women right now are mommy, ninny (my mom), her aunts, and Dora. : ) Best of luck!!

MintyFresh, While I haven't had my procedure yet, I've started trying different protein shakes. I've even tried the Carnation Instant Breakfast in the boxes...not my favorite. This morning I tried a Boost High Protein Strawberry...has 15g. of protein. I liked the flavor...and can imagine turning it into a smoothie with some ff yogurt, strawberries and maybe even some raspberries or peaches...but to keep the seeds out of the mix would probably just add the yogurt and peaches.

Dini, same thoughts here...my littlest is 20 months and loves for mama to hold him. Reading the booklet my doctor gave me the suggestion is nothing over 15-20 pounds for four weeks...I asked my doctor and he said two weeks. You might check to see what your doctor recommends. Best of luck!!!

    heartburn

abominableglib, My doctors office just called and told me my hiatal hernia was large and the surgeon wanted me to take over the counter prilosec for a week before surgery. They didn't mention repairing it during surgery, but he had said in preop consult that they sometimes can. I was just wondering if your recovery time was extended? Was your surgery longer? Thanks!! Beckie

Doc's office called back. My hiatal hernia is actually large and the surgeon wants me to take over the counter Prilosec for 7 days prior to surgery. While I am still waiting a date, I was told the earliest it may be would be June 15...doc is out on the 22nd...and he only does surgeries on Fridays for them. But the good news is, my file is in process, now going for insurance verification (approved 5/9) and to anesthesiology. : )

lol! Too cool! He is a cutie...luckily my husband wasn't along on my pre-op visit or I'd be in trouble...lol. He seems to really care about his patients...was very thorough. My surgery hasn't been scheduled yet...but I've completed my pre-op tests...I feel like I'm getting the run around..."Call his office" "Call WTLSC" "Call his office" "We don't deal with his lap-band patients"...etc. I know the EKG and Bloodwork and all are only good for 30 days, so if they go ahead and schedule me it'll be this month. I was actually hoping for the 15th...like you. It would work best with my work schedule. That's my big thing, I want to give my employer a good notice before I take a week off. My boss is very understanding and supportive. It's weird...I've told my co-workers and they're all supportive...another fellow co-worker had it and her bandiversary was last weekend and she's lost just over 80 pounds...she was one of my bosses former secretaries in his prior position. My friend Melinda really liked Ellison...he did a wonderful job on her surgery earlier this year and she's now lost close to 28 pounds.

    June 2007 Bandsters

Not sure yet...I've had all my preop done...so it would have to be this month unless they're going to redo the EKG and bloodwork. I am anxious to hear when. My BF had her surgery by Dr. Ellison earlier this year and is doing great.

"I'm still waiting for my official date...hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow. I'm getting very anxious. I don't blame you----when do you think you'll find out?" Hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday...I'll be calling tomorrow afternoon if I don't hear anything...I'm horrible that way. I must be driving the office crazy. Wonder if you could also make some gumbo and have cajun broth with the chicken broth? I'm big on flavors...
