  1. You are getting good advice here, I will also say there is so much to do and mentally prepare and 6 months will go by so fast. I recommend you attend your local support group for WLS. Your bariatric MD's office should give you info. They probably meet once a month and you will get great information. You will meet people who have had their surgeries already as well as presurgery patients in your position. If they have a good program they will also have more than just one meeting with the dietician. I met with the dietician once a month and attended classes taught by them about nutrition and how it pertains to surgical patients. Good luck to you!

  2. Keep hydrated, I am 6 days out from my sleeve and I am only allowed clear liquids till this Tuesday. If your urine is dark it could be a sign that you are dehydrated and that will cause problems until you are able to turn it around. I was instructed to use little medicine cups (that hold 1 oz) you should be drinking 4-6 of these every hour. I would suggest the clears so you can hydrate faster. sugar free Popsicles also work great. Did you call your doctor? You are only four days out so I would focus more on the clear liquids like sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles, clear tea, broths; your insides are still waking up from the anesthesia. Sounds are normal. Good luck and please take care!

  3. You are only 2 days post-op. do not gulp your fluids. I would use a little medicine cup that holds an ounce and average 4-6 little capfuls in an hour. That might make it more tolerable while you are still healing. Did you have a hiatal hernia repair? I had both done this past Tuesday (2/5). Sounds like the pains I get occasionally. Good luck!

  4. @deannagail- I think it is better to have both procedures done at the same time. Rather than go thru that type of surgery twice. I am sure everyone is different but the recovery should be almost the same for both procedures with just pain possibly at the lower chest from the hernia repair. I do believe they want to know if you are having hiccups during recovery, because those are not good and they want to know right away(recurrent hiccups). I recommend having both done together.

  5. I feel the pain in the shoulders is due to the co2 gas that is used to inflate your abdomen during the surgery. At the end of the procedure if they do not let enough of it out, it is trapped in your belly. Your body will get rid of it but when you sit up the gas travels upward and thus you have pain in your shoulders. I had shoulder pain for 2 days. I have only a moment of it now. The shoulder pain has pretty much gone away. I did have pain in my lower sternum, the area where your chest meets your abdomen, I think that pain is from the hiatal hernia repair. I have been managing that with a liquid pain med and it is resolving also. So far each day is getting easier.

Today Today is day 4 and the pain from both are much much less. So glad I had both done.

  6. My name is Doreen and I just had the sleeve done 2/5/13 (3 days ago) I found this website a few days before my surgery. I am 47 and have been battling my weight for so long. I also am an operating room nurse so I was watching this procedure being done and then a couple friends had surgery and they look wonderful. I met with the surgeon January 2012 and started learning about the options I had and meetings with dietician and counseling. It took me a year to get ready for this mostly because I work 2 jobs and put everyone else first. I work a lot of call and finally I stopped and said enough. I am going to do this for me! Well it has been 3 days since my surgery and that first night after I was scared. Worried about what I had done, each day gets better than the last. I feel good about this. I am nervous but I know with proper planning I can have great success. I look forward to this new journey.
