  1. A lot of great advice here and congratulations on joining this website! Your surgeon will be the best advisor as to which procedure he recommends. You both will benefit from either. It is up to you to know what you can accept and really handle. I have a friend who had a RNY and she looks and is doing amazing! You do have the option for conversion after a sleeve but, if you follow your teams advice you may never need to consider further surgery. I am happy with my choice for the sleeve. I listen to my surgeon and my nutritionist. I follow the stages of my diet too. Research, research and get to know your surgeon- how many he/she has done. It is wonderful that you and your spouse are doing this together. You can help each other tremendously. Again, congratulations and good luck to you both!

  2. The best thing you can do for your self and success with your tool is to start practicing NOW not drinking beverages with your meals. You also should stop drinking at least 30 mins before and until 30 mins after your meal. This was hard for me to get used to. It is fine now. One thing that helps is keep some grapes in your freezer. At the end of a meal, eat a few frozen grapes. Not only are they delish but they will freshen your mouth so you desire a beverage less. I agree with people on this thread also- measure your food and invest in a scale. I measure all my food ahead of time whenever I can and I am actually full before I finish 1/3 cup most of the time. I am going to get the most out of this sleeve during the "honeymoon" phase especially. Good luck to you and congratulations!!

  3. Great advice here! I agree. I also work in an operating room and after helping people have the sleeve done I knew I was ready and I can honestly tell you exception. There are risks with every surgery. Do your research and when you meet your surgeon always go in with questions and take notes. Make the nutritionist your best friend and ALWAYS follow both the surgeon's and the Nuts advice and instructions. They want you to succeed! Good luck to you!

  4. A year and 2 months ago I decided to stop drinking carbonated beverages and stopped using sugar. I was addicted to sweet tea! Especially at that evil Mickey d's! I switched to crystal light raspberry green tea and that satisfied my longing for sweet tea. I also use trivia or stevia in the raw. That change ALONE caused me to drop 30lbs. I am not kidding. Get the my fitness pal app and log your food intake so you can keep better track. It really helped me and it is so easy now that I have been on it for a while it is like second nature to me. Good luck to you!

  5. I agree! Do some more research. The sleeve was the best option for me. Nothing is rerouted. Remember it is a tool and you must be willing to make lifestyle as well as food changes to get the most out of this wonderful tool. Check out what the NIH (National Institutes of Health) have to say about the band versus the sleeve. I can't find the link at this moment but it basically says the risks and complications from the band are not worth it. Good luck to you.

  6. Mine is falling out too! I think I might make one of those hair babies people have been posting! You must check them out! They are hilarious! I have started taking Biotin which is supposed to be great for hair and nails although I am not sure of the max dose I can take. I've seen conflicting posts. I'll have to research it more! Good luck!

  7. I wasn't hungry for like 3 weeks after my surgery! I was making treats for coworkers as well as had friends over for dinner. It was easy. I did eventually get my hunger back and I stick to my diet and Nuts instructions and it has been pretty easy so far. The real strong hunger pangs did not last long too. I do remember having them for about 2 weeks. Are you drinking with your meals? Remember not to drink 30 mins before and after. You will basically wash your food down like flushing a toilet! Then hunger will come back! Congratulations!! Good luck to you!

  8. I agree with MinaT. Start a habit of not drinking with your meals. Try not to drink at least a half hour before and 45 mins after your meals. That was the hardest for me. I wish I had practiced that before surgery. I am better at it now though. Join my fitness pal. There are a lot of us on there. It is a great tool. I log all my meals and Water intake and find it easy to keep track and also see other people's meal logs for ideas. Good luck to you!!

  9. As you know, everyone's experience is going to be different. There is going to be some pain. Pain from the gas that is used to inflate your abdomen was the worst for me. It rises to your shoulders. It went away after about a day and a half. The only other pain was at my incisions. Ask for liquid pain meds for at home, like Roxicet. It did wonders for me. Please remember to walk as much as you can after your surgery. I was up walking the halls in the hospital and it truly made a difference. I was able to move the gas out of my system so much quicker. Get a small medicine cup. They will have plenty of them in the hospital. Take them home and for a day or two, use that cup for your Water intake. Have a bottle of water by your side and fill it and drink it at least 6-8 times an hour. It really sounds silly but it does work. This was the best decision I ever made and I would go through it all again in a heartbeat! Pain and all. Ask for your pain meds as soon as you feel you need them. If you let the pain become unbearable it will be that much harder to treat. Good luck to you. Congratulations on your decision!
