  2. How did you now you were dehydrated and when did you know that you needed to go to the hospital? I have never been a huge drinker and post op i have been averaging between 35-45 ounces of fluids. Just curious to know what made you know it was time to go to the ER for some IV's?

    Thanks

Unfortunately I learned the hard way Tuesday and passed out. They, kept me in the hospital for one night due to abnormal EKG because I was so dehydrated. Prior to this happening I had very dry mouth, I noticed I wasnt urinating as much, and slight dizzy spells.

  3. Am 6 day out I know I don't need to hear it but it was my best friend birthday n I had a chillis margarita n it went down fine I got a little buzzed didnt last long n I survived didnt hurt or anything I would suggest Water n vodka thou n I will not drink till I can eat full foods again

U r brave! Lol...I'm three weeks today and plan on taking my first drink the wknd of 4/26 for a friends Bday in DC, hope it goes well

  4. I had my surgery December 3rd 2012 i haven't had any Hair loss other than the hair i already had due to age but i did have a lot of problems with the Protein Shakes they make me sick to stomach and i tried all types and brands. As far as i know i don't think it's a culture issue. As far as the soul food issue i will find out this thanksgiving when i go to my cousin's house in Oakland for my Aunt Daisy's Louisiana cooking. I have decided since i can eat only a little i will only eat sweet potatoes but we'll see cause the Gumbo is good too. Sorry i got off topic there. Anyways i think eventually you can eat anything in reason in smaller amounts. I tried some collar greens a few weeks ago but i don't think my stomach is ready as i recently just started being able to eat more than 5 bites of food a day. ( i was an extreme case) things are a lot better now though thank the lord. I had no energy for weeks cause i couldn't eat or drink Protein. I have a question though does any one else find that the smell of most fast food makes them nauseous? I find driving by McDonald's makes me sick from the smell of the fryer. I have noticed my skin seems extra dry but i don't know if it's the surgery or the winter weather.

Nikki_D good luck with your surgery your gonna feel so much better

Ive also noticed my skin becoming very dry smh I hate it....think I will try using Nivea

  5. i def can relate. i don't want to get drunk, but def want a drink or two. I miss my social outings during the week after work. They say 6 months and i'm counting down. Just to think my bday is in a couple of days. Plans this year look like the spa #grrrr

  6. I'm 10 days post op' date=' still having pain to one of my incisions. Mainly when in a sitting position. I asked my surgeon and he said it's normal because that's where he placed the suture that goes to the muscle. It feels like a burning sensation. Anyone else experiencing this?[/quote']

Omg,, I just started feeling this past two days, not to sure what it is but seen my pcp today and she said it seems to be a small hernia at my incision site that may have developed after surgery. Pain comes from it being out of place and to just massage it in. She wants me to follow up with my surgeon so I have an appt. w/ him next wk. Will keep u posted

  7. Prunes. You actually can develop a liking for them. Really. I was suprised' date=' but I actually do like them. They really are just like big, juicy raisins. If you like raisins, you probably will like prunes.[/quote']

yes, these are very helpful....i take a couple in the a.m. & right before bedtime

  8. I am the 1% :( I got a leak and an abscess on 3/19 and was originally sleeved 3/5. My stomach for whatever reason necroted by one of the staples and it came apart' date=' causing the abscess (the leaked out fluids from your tummy are isolated into another part of your body), mine went to my diaphragm. My dr's had one other one in 2009 and that was due to the dude taking a gulp from his drink from Sonic. I"m thinking Sonic, carbonation.... um not following the diet? IDK....on his but I followed instructions to a t and still was the crazy 1% that this happened to.

It is RARE for this to happen from everything I've read, but do speak to your dr. about any incidents he's had and how he's addressed them.

If you want more info, feel free to inbox me..... but no, I don't regret the surgery. I've lost 51 lbs so far... of course I was on Clear liquids for over a month, but.....I just hope to keep losing......

I hope your mother finds a way to support you in your decision instead of giving you reasons to doubt it. Doubt is normal, as is a mother's concern, so not sure If I'm reading your original post correctly or not. I know if my parents had still been alive, well I couldn't have afforded all of this for one, but they would have given me so much negativity I probably would have never gone through with it. God bless my in laws though... they have been absolutely supportive. But did I doubt my decision? Yes.... but still glad I did it.[/quote']

How were you able to tell you had a leak?

  9. They moved my surgery up to 8:45 tomorrow morning. I have to be there at 6:15.

I stayed home today after drinking the citrus of magnesia... but not too much happened. Was it supposed to? I also spent all day arguing with the finance people at the hospital. They wouldn't take my payment over the phone! Do they want my money or not?! And dealing with my surgeon's office because they lost all my bloodwork!! So much stress' date=' but at least I was distracted.

I'm praying for all you February sleevers! This is really scary for me, so if you're scared too, know I'm sending you good vibes![/quote']

I did my surgery 2/13 & got scared that a.m. whatever you do try to relax and watch a movie or do something to relax your body, you def dont want your pressure up tomorrow before or after surgery. It will def delay things. Good luck, and positive thoughts!

  10. I had my surgery on Tuesday as well' date=' and I feel like my stomach has finally started going down. Feeling really good today. I'm ready to get out of the house. Tired of laying around watching tv. Thinking about going to get a pedicure. :)[/quote']

I def suggest getting out, walking through the park, mall, GNC etc. and making sure to bring your liquids lol...I actually started walking around my neighborhood the afternoon I left the Hospital. It def prevents blood clots, helps the gas release, and keeps your mind off of just the surgery in general. I noticed laying around makes me feel everything from trapped gas, to stomach pains and swollen belly. Throw some comfortable sweats and sneakers on and just walk, it def helps.

  11. Glad to hear so many of you are doing great. I'm on the countdown' date=' scheduled for 2/21. Getting nervous, excited, scared, and kinda have this disbelief feeling that I'm really doing this.[/quote']

Def stay positive and keep a clear mind. I waited for 2/13 forever and was so excited until the morning of. Out of nowhere I became nervous and begin to question the decision I was making, my pressure shot up during surgery and after and I had to stay in the Hospital for 3 days instead of 2 BC of all my last minute anxiety. My doc and nurses would not releass me until my pressure was stable, bc I never had high blood pressure. You def dont want this to happen.
