    6 oz of italian ice?

I have seen no sugar added varieties at the grocery store. Not as good as the real thing I am sure.
  2. Probably can't rule out that nasty Norovirus that is going around. I would let the doctor know if it was bad enough that I feared dehydration.
  3. I had to be at the hospital (which is one hour from my house) at 5am so I took an ambien at 7pm and slept like a baby. I had no problems with my surgery or recovery.

    Tomato soup

I will do that. I think I find the broth so unappetizing because it was the last thing I ate before the magnesium citrate the night before surgery. That stuff made me so nauseous and I have a tendency to have to write off for awhile any food that makes me sick. Sometimes for a long while. I haven't been able to drink vodka since an unfortunate experience at the Rose Parade in 1983.

    Tomato soup

Oh, and broth. Which for some reason makes me want to hurl.

    Tomato soup

I am on a limited liquid diet for the first two weeks. Protein, decaf coffee/tea, crystal light, flavored waters, V8 and tomato juice. My thinking was that tomato soup cannot be that much different from tomato juice.

    Tomato soup

I am 8 days post op and a couple of days ago I had a meltdown over the protein shake issue. I did not know how I was going to choke down 8 more days of it. My husband, being accustomed to dealing with hysterical post operative patients, brought me one exquisite ounce of tomato soup. I really brought me back from the brink. So I appreciate your tomato soup post. Best of luck to both of you.
  8. Determined, I never thought I would crave an egg so much. A few days ago I was totally uninterested in food too. Then, all of a sudden, I felt a strange feeling in my tummy and I became obsessed with having one bite of something. I am better today, but I was knocked off my high horse for sure. Let me know how you are doing.
  9. I was sleeved on the 4th. I am still having stomach spasms. They hurt a little. Are you having those? Mine seem to be worse when my stomach is empty. If I drink some water or protein, it gets better. Are you mixing your protein with water, milk or silk? Have you tried different flavors? My tummy feels so much better when there is something in it. What else are you allowed to have? I can also have crystal light and decaf coffee/tea and V8. I had a bit of a meltdown on day 6 because I did not think I could stand one more cup of protein. My husband listened to me wail and brought me some tomato soup. One ounce of tomato soup. That fixed me up. I really, really want some mashed potatoes or some scrambled egg or a damn cracker, but I put off going there for just one more day. Pretty soon, I will legitimately be able to try those things. I think that this is a trial that we all have to pass through. We had to do this because we have proven ourselves incapable of exercising appropriate control over food. Drink your protein and your water and tell yourself that you are goin to stay strong one more hour. Call a friend or go for a walk. Busy your hands. This will pass.

    Back again!

I confess myself confused over the pre-op weight loss requirements. If we were able to drop 30 pounds that easily......My surgeon wanted me to drop 12 pounds over six months. I was able to squeeze out 4. It was a struggle. Then for the last week before surgery, I was on 800 calories a day. I lost another 3. In the six days since my surgery, I have lost 10. I think if I had been told to lose 30 or no surgery and I was self pay, I would find me another surgeon.
  12. I am on very limited liquids until the two week mark when I see the NUT. I am 6 days out and all I can have is protein, decaf coffee and tea, strained broth, crystal light, flavored waters and V8 or tomato juice. I have not been able to drink broth. It grosses me out just thinking about it. I have no idea why. I liked broth fine pre-surgery. Must be one of those taste changes folks talk about.
  13. Welcome. I was not low BMI, but I had anxiety over complications too. I reminded myself that the vast majority of people who have this surgery do not develop the catastrophic complications that we fear. I am 6 days post op and feeling really well. I knew the risks going in but decided that the risks of no surgery (eventual diabetes with all the complications) were far more likely than the surgery risks. Maybe I can set your mind at ease a bit by sharing that I have had very little real pain after the first 24 hours and I had no problem getting up and walking 4 hours after surgery. My surgery was on 2/4 and on 2/7, I went to my office for a conference call. It tired me out and I went home right after, but I have not felt really ill like I feared. I have had no nausea at all and have had no problem drinking my fluids or protein. I hope you will let us all know how you do with your surgery.

    I'm worried

Shucky, I agree with you about the liquids. I have two friends who were sleeved at the same time three years ago. Both had spectacular weight loss really quickly. But since, one has gained back about 30 pounds of the 90 she lost. The culprit: wine. I imagine shakes would have a similar effect. I am only 6 days out but I can already easily drink 8 oz quickly. I have no idea what will happen when I am able to start softs in a week.

    Bowels

I am 6 days post op. I knew this would be an issue so I got Equate chewable fiber. Two tablets have 4 grams of fiber. When Friday came along with no progress, I chewed a couple of them in the afternoon. A couple of hours later, problem solved. I plan to chew a couple every other day.
  16. I am 5 days post op and I am having some spasms, too. I had more in the hospital than I do now. At first, they occurred with every drink of water but I think they will eventually resolve because they are coming less frequently. It is not unbearable pain and does not interfere with me getting my fluids and protein in. Overall, I have had a very positive experience. Very little pain, good energy and no real hunger.

    Surgery Feb 11th!

If you disliked the Bariatric Advantage, you might want to ask for Unjury in the hospital. It tastes way better. I thought the BA had a chemical taste from the vitamins. Good luck!
  18. I had my surgery Monday, too. I am not having any trouble walking, but I am having some spasms. I understand that the esophagus will do that. It is not unbearably painful, but I am hoping it will stop soon. I cannot say that I am hungry, but I am already totally bored with the protein shake. I want to chew something and have been thinking fondly of crackers. Since I still have 10 days to go on limited liquids, I just tell myself to suck it up and think about how much weight I am losing.

Shannon Did you take biotin or any other supplement to avoid the hair loss and it happened anyway?
  20. I was sleeved 2/4/13. I am 47 yrs old. At age 20, I weighed 125 lbs. I then gained over the years to my all time high of 257. I also tried every diet I could find and was never successful. If this surgery had been available 20 years ago when I weighed 180 pounds and I knew that if I did not take care of it that I would double my weight, I am sure I would have signed up for surgery. Good luck to you.
  21. I hope everything goes well for you.
  22. OP, I hope you come back and tell us everything went well.
  23. I was sleeved 2/4. I have not been one bit hungry. I have had water, unjury made with water, some crystal light lemonade and sf popcicles. The lemonade was far too acidic but the popsicles are heavenly. I was worried I would be tempted by diet coke, but my tummy tells me it is totally disinterested. I think you may be surprised after surgery like I was. You just can't tell ahead of time what it will be like.
  24. The way it was explained to me is that phenergan is a bit harsh on veins and can burn going in. The scopolamine patch gives continuous meds with no such problem. They put the dime sized patch behind my ear in pre-op after I told the anesthesiologist that I had had nausea after surgery before.
