  1. I am 9 days post op and eating thick liquids, yogurt, Soup, pudding, sweet potatoes. The last two days I get a pain mid chest when eating, is this heartburn or acid? Anyone experienced this? It is definitely above my stomach

I'm 9 days post-op as well and I'm suffering with the same pain. I quit trying to eat foods and sticking to liquids. I don't go to my first post-op appt until Friday.

  2. Yes! I am in the me boat! Have you found any solutions?

I'm in the same boat as well. It sucks because I don't like chocolate and the strawberry stuff is soo sweet. It was my pre-op liquid diet staple but now all I drink is Crystal light, Water & skim milk. I'm slowly tolerating the carnation essentials choclate but that's because vanilla is the worst! I go to my support group meeting tomorrow evening so hopefully I'll get some help. :(

  3. I was sleeved on Feb. 19th and feeling ok. I still have incision pain and headaches ever so often but otherwise feeling pretty good. I've been drinking carnation essentials with skim milk and plenty of watered down crystal light. I haven't tried any other food but would love to have a recipe for homemade Tomato Soup. I lost 30lbs on my 2 week pre op but not sure how much I've lost since my surgery because I don't own a scale...lol.

  4. Today is my 3rd day of pre-op and I'm doing ok. I've been battling a slight headache but nothing more. I will tell everyone that WALKING is THE BEST way to pass the air through your body after surgery. My only pain is my large incision where my stomach was removed so I can't stand upright completely but it don't stop me from trying a little bit everyday. My 1oz. sips of Water is super yummy and I will FOREVER be grateful for it. I thought I was gonna lose my mind when I couldn't have Water for 24hrs.

I recommend the following for everyone for before & after surgery:

    1. Pack your bag for the hospital and then unpack all the reading stuff because you're gonna sleep all day.
    2. Chapstick, lip balm, lip moisturizer, whatever you use, have plenty of it on hand and make sure that each family member has some when they visit you.
    3. Keep a cold cloth on your forehead after surgery, it helped me stay cool.
    4. Keep a wet cloth by your bed so you can moisturize your lips.
    5. Brush your teeth as soon as you possibly can so your breath won't knock you out...lol.
    6. WALK! WALK! WALK! As much as you can no matter the distance. It's the only way to pass the air and begin your recovery.

I know the days ahead are gonna be a bit trying at times but WE ALL CAN DO IT TOGETHER!!!

  5. Ugh I literally jus want to cry!!! I'm so crabby, I miss food, the guy I was dating (it wasn't working out) but we decided to call it quits, I went to see my surgeon and he wasn't that happy with my weight loss (i could just tell...i told him i didn't start to diet until i had to do my liquid diet)(so i don't even feel good about the 8lbs that i've lost so far on my liquid diet because in his eyes I've only lost 2lbs because after my 1st appt I went out and ate everything and anything i wanted) GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! I'm doing the best I can my surgery is 6 days away and I'm jus so blah...Please tell me after this I'm going to start to feel good about things again....

Awwww...I know the feeling. I'm 5 days away and sometimes I just wanna throw in the towel but when I look at my grandson and think about the day I'm changing my life I push on. I had 1 cheat day because my husband fried chicken for dinner while I was out at a friends house but failed to put away before I got home. My will power went straight out the window and I ate that chicken leg. I've paid for it in many ways. I'm sure the doctors know we're gonna have some sort of set back but as long as we don't over do it we will be ok. I'm not eating anything else from now on because I REFUSE to start this 2 weeks over...lol. Keep your head up and remeber our trip..lol

  6. I'm 3 days into my pre-op diet and I can only have shakes or substitute broth for 1 shake a day. Today is my first day with a headache but I'm gonna keep pressing on. I told my family they are allowed to eat dinner 6pm-8pm because I'm either at work or at the gym. My biggest challenge will be on the 16th at my daughters engagement party at a wonderful Italian Bistro. I'm thinking to arrive 30 minutes late to give everyone time to eat their meals and not feel bad for me. By then I'll only have 3 days to go and I won't do anything to mess up.

  7. Hi Sassime!

I am going to MX because I am on a budget and Blue Cross Blue Shield State Plan does not cover the insurance. Period.

I consulted all of the US surgeons in my area and the prices ranged from 17 to 30 thousand dollars. Realistically, it would take me 15 years to save enough to selfpay the surgery at those prices (I am a schoolteacher making <50,000 dollars a year).

So, after researching I feel that this is my best option.

I'm excited that you have only a few days left to go before your surgery!!!

I totally understand why you're going to MX. I'm just happy that you were able to find somewhere to go. I'm very excited to have my surgery, I'm not too excited about this liquid diet because my daughters engagement party is coming up soon at a fabulous Italian restaurant. I'm gonna save one of my drinks for that time...lol

  8. Allow me to introduce myself... (smile)

I have been lurking here since I joined a few days ago. Reading all that I could and marveling at before/after pics. I am going to MX this June to have my surgery done.

Came to this conclusion after seeing the woman with the 96 inch hips last week. She was 400 pounds. I am in spitting distance of 400 pounds and that bothers me. My body aches and I can hear my joints creaking sometimes. This is not good.

The summer of 2012 I lost 60 pounds through diet and exercise. I think I've gained 20 back. I see the sleeve as a way to allow me to control the hunger. I don't want to be on prescription appetite suppressants forever. Exercising and eating clean is do a little sumthin' sumthin' but I need to control the saiety factor.

Anyways, I am glad to meet ya'll and looking forward to this journey. Learning and inspired so much by what you guys prepare and are continuing to do.

Good afternoon Onehawtmama, I'm glad you are going to have the surgery. It's truly going to be a life changing experience. If you don't mind me asking why are you going to MX?

  9. I remember as my surgery date got closer the more excited I got. Then when I was a week away I got nervous. It wasn't about the huge commitment that I have made with having this surgery, it was the surgery itself. I have had two surgeries in my life. One was awake - c-section and the other was emergency surgery to remove my gall-bladder. So the whole "what to expect the day of" and will surgery go ok etc made me really nervous. The day of turned out great.

I am so excited for you. I hope that I can offer some words of wisdom until your surgery date!

This will be my 4th surgery. I wasn't nervous about any of them because I had choices, just like this one. Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. I'll let you know how I feel as the days go bye.

  11. Hello everyone, I'm new to the group and as happy as a kid in a candy store because I found you!! I've enjoyed reading all the previous posts because they answered most of my questions. I started this process 3 times but always had to put it on hold due to family. I told my husband when I started it last Dec. that JESUS is the only way I'd quit this time. I'm very excited and looking forward to my new beginning, especially since it's on my daddy's birthday. I know he's smiling down on me.
