Sorry about my spelling my keys are sticking and didn't realize it

    Please help, where to start?

Yes, they are strict. But, I would go to your primary Dr. Who can refer you to a Surgen. I would also submit for Prior approval. WhenI did they wrote me a letter and told me step by step what was needed to qualify. Your on the right track. I know that my Dr. doesn't really like to do the banding if you over 50. GOD LUCK
  3. HAs anyone had surgery, and am I the only one who notices a big diet difference from what others are doing? Also, I would like to know how their experience was with im I probably spelled his name wrong forgive me I didn't feel like digging out my paper work.
  4. For the insuranse you don't have to have all the other work ups. It depends on your Dr. I've noticed that my Dr. is much stricter than some of the other as far as testing and siet go. Good Luck

    Help with Nay-sayers

I thought about having weight loss surgery for at least 12 years signed up once and backed out. Now I'm self pay and in the last 5 years have really worked on my mental psychological stuff (underlying reasons I'm fat) and have decided that I deserve to be happier, thinner and buy cheap cute clothes. Take a inventory of the pros and cons and go from there

    post-op overeating

I will get mine done soon. But, the menu's that my Dr. sent home with me are really strict for upto 10weeks post op. In fact he said no bread or milk for the rest of my life. and not to drink any fluids 30min before a meal and 60-90 minutes after a meal and then 3lt's of water the rest of the time. The meals are 1oz of cream of wheat or puree vegi's x3 and x2 protien "mud" shakes. So, I'm not sure if the Dr. didn't give you such a diet or not?

    Husband needs help understanding

Life with my Significant Other (7years together) Has been interesting. He's a professional Body Builder and although he's been supportive of me and accepting it's been hard because, physically he's perfect to die for and I have felt inadequate (taking a tol on the relationship). When I broached the subject at first he said we can get it off together you don't need that, years later it hasn't helped and finally I just said, I need to get healthy and I won't leave you when I do. He's fine now. I think they can be afraid too. The second part take whom you will be most comfortable with on surgery day it's your day. I'm taking a friend. Good Luck

    I just can't shake it...

I could see that. Just remember that things like this might be for the better. Keep your chin up. (I'm sure I would take it hard too)

PLEASE tell me this is normal!!!!

I just found this site the other day infact it was right after my psych consult. I have been having some of the same thoughts. But, thanks to you all it helps me calm down and stay on track and realize I've made the right choice with this. My insurance won't help either $14,500 out of pocket. I keep dreaming about that check, but, I'm trying to look at this as being empowering, "I'm successful enough to pull it off". As a single mom it took me two years to get everything in order and have the ability to pay for it.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?

I'm now on a high protien no/low carb diet have been for two weeks up until 10 days prior I'll be on a clear liquid diet with 90 grams of protien. After surgery it drops to 60 grams of protien and cl's for another 4 weeks. After surgery he said that I have to make the protien with only 4oz water and can't drink anything for 30min prior and then 60-90 after to help hold the muddy protien in the pouch so I will feel full more. I guess this is pretty strict compaired. Let me tell you I've slipped here and there. But lost 8lbs in two weeks

    Help with Nay-sayers

I will be banded next month and I have only told a few people. Infact one friend I have know for 13years doesn't get to know because, they would be negative. I refuse to take my mom to my surgery date, and have choosen to take a friend because, she will support me. This is going to be my day the big day and I want it to go smooth. My Boss knows and thinks I'm going to die or have complications. I told her that If I don't have this then I could, if I ever got any cor-morbid diseasaes to go along with being fat. STAND STRONG AND DON'T RATIONALIZE TO MUCH WITH ANYONE. DO IT FOR YOU!!! AND GOOD LUCK!
  13. What is your pre-op diet? I'm on the adkin's for know and then 10days before I switch to a CL diet with protien. I think I have had some of the same fears. Will, it work why I'm I having trouble, I know think that mybe I can't swallow right....yada yada. I think that this is such a big deal but, it will be worth it. Try and think about the positive things and do some guided imagery. I wrote a check last night in my sleep for 16,000. I guess I'm still trying to process all the money to. Sometimes I think well I could take a vacation. But, then I remind myself next year I can take a vaca and really enjoy it with my new body. hang in there. soon to be banded

I would go to my primary care doctor and see if there is someone they would recommend and also, call your insurance co. and see what they have to say. All insurance's are different. Mine said that I had to have two or more conditions and a BMI over 40. I don't even have one condition except being overweight. So, I talked to my primary care Dr. and she refered me to a local Dr. that has a cash pay discount and I researched them and went for it. :gluck: PS thanks for the advise just being able to get on this site and talk with others is helping make a difference. I did great today.
  15. I've known two people to get it done in mexico, 1 with great results (she also, claims tht 3 other family members had theirs done there also with good results). And the other person nearly died from complications and then had it reversed. I chose to go to my local clinic it's $5,000 more but,it's close and if there is any complications I don't have to goback to mexio. Good luck with your choice.

    NWWLS dr watkins

It was good It took about an 1 1/2 hour. He asked a lot of questions and had me fill out two tests. He said that the primary reason is to try and weed out people that don't have good insight into the underlying issues that can occur with weight loss and why one is over weight in the first place. He asked a lot of questions; How was my family of origin, abuse, why I thought that I was overweight, How I would handle extra skin, what my expectations are, my goal wieght, Specific dietary qustions etc... Overallit went well, he did sugges to look for a councelor for the future when I start loosing and dealing with those changes. He also, said to try and build support systems. So I'm happy that I found this site.

Actually it was fine it took about 11/2 hours. I filled out two tests one for depression and another to see if I had any serious mental illness. He also, asked me a battery of questions. What was my diet going to consist of post surgery, how much weight did I expect to lose, How would I veiw myself with excess skin after the los. Did I have a family history of abuse. Where my weight issues originated from etc... I was honest and tryed to be realistic with him. It went well but, it really made me think about this whole thing. He suggested that I get a councelor lined up in case I need it later because of all of the changes that are going to happen.

HI - New here, from Toronto, Canada

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who feels that they have to arrange life around the Dr. Apt's and surgery date!!! Thanks for sharing. I have people who are supportive but, they don't really get it.

He asked that I loose as muchas I can not a specific number and told me to eat only "Atkins" type diet. No caffine, soda or carbs. I'v lost 8lbs. in two weeks but, I've been slipping lately. Then 10 days before surgery he wants me to be on a Clear liquid diet with 90grams of protien and 3 ltrs of water (I'm drowning)
