HI Jenny, congrats on your decision to have surgery. Your anxiety is TOTALLY normal! I called to try to cancel my surgery with any excuse in the book and I am so glad that I didn't actually cancel it. I am 13 months out and down 108 lbs. It has been nothing short of amazing! My 2 year old son loves that I run around with him all day long and ride on his toys. Your daughter will have so much fun with all the new things you can find you will do!

I wore maternity yoga pants under my gown. They were super soft and comfy. I wore them home too.

I brought chapstick, a pair of sandals, maternity yoga capris (since they were loose in the stomach), phone charger, and tablet. Everything else they had for me.

@ Congrats on your decision. I chose not to tell many people. To this day only 3 people (my husband, sister, and boss) know I had gastric surgery. I chose not to tell especially before surgery because I didn't want people talking me out of it. My boss did try to talk me out of it.
I know others have been as open as posting it on their Facebook, telling everybody they meet, ect. That is not for me.
Hopefully everybody receives your news with open minds and positive thoughts!

I am 1 year out. I remember the days of not feeling "Normal" because I could only eat a couple of bites. Also I was depressed that I could only eat a couple bites.
I can't eat a "meal" as in pre-surgery 1500 calories in one sitting "meal". But I can eat about 4 shrimp, a couple bites of salad, and a couple bites of rice in one sitting. I eat many small meals now and don't mind it. It has become my life and I can't remember how it feels to eat so much in one sitting any longer.
Hang in there, it gets better!

I had no pre-op diet, some surgeons believe the pre-op diet shrinks the liver, other doctors state there is no substantial proof of that. Each surgeon is different has their own preferences.

I called 2 days before surgery to cancel. Tried every excuse in the book to cancel. Even the morning of I was debating backing out. I went through with it and couldn't be happier. I have my 1 year checkup on Thursday. I had high blood pressure and was worried I wouldn't be around for my son if I didn't go through with surgery!
Ultimately this is your decision. Think about it long and hard. Think about what you want out of life, Only you can decide if this is right for you.
I see you are having surgery in Illinois, if you are up for it, Good Shepherd in Barrington (where I had surgery) has a great support group where you can go to meet others and ask questions.

We waited about 3 weeks, just because I was in pain the first week, sore the second and just tired the third. Nothing went wrong.....again no swings, trapeze or anything too wild and you will be ok.

If you click on my profile and look through my pictures, I posted a 6 month scar picture. I will never be a bikini model but I could care less! I weighed about 175 lbs in the pictures.

While I don't really eat at BBQ restaurants because we have a competitive BBQ team I still eat BBQ just in a lot less quantity. We usually compete with ribs, chicken, beef, and pork. I eat a sample bite of each. Post op food doesn't have the same control over me. I can enjoy and savor that 1 bite of each. I only started eating BBQ again at about 6 months out because it's a lot tougher to digest and I followed all of my doctors rules. If you click on my profile, my after picture is at a BBQ competition at 7 months out and down about 80 lbs. I have continued to love BBQ and still lost weight.

I am from Northern Illinois, had surgery in Barrington. I grew up in Wheaton. I am 9 months out and would not change 1 thing! Hopefully you get a date soon!

I don't think they mean they have no long term research on patients living with partial stomachs. I think the research they are lacking is the long term weight loss goals relating to the sleeve.

food doesn't have the same hold over me as it did pre-op. I loved all food especially the bad for you foods. Now I don't like fried anything, french fries just don't taste as good. I love all meat doesn't matter lean or not, i love chicken, ribs, steaks, brisket, pork. I was not a huge meat eater before I could have done without.
I guess now if it's going to take up such a small space an I only get to eat/enjoy a small amount it better be really really good!

My son is 2 and was not allowed in the surgical unit. Plus I told my husband I did not want him there for risk of illness and its not a place for a toddler. I chose not to tell others about my surgery so my hubby took our son to the babysitter during the day so he could visit and would be with our son at night.

About to start round 2....It's intense but I love it! I love not having to have a bunch of equipment and I can do it everyday at home. You may need to modify some of the moves to your current ability.

I had Migraines that would last 4-5 days at a time at least 3 times a month. . Since surgery and weight loss I get about 1 per month and it only last 2 days. Mine is related to my diastolic blood pressure but blood pressure meds make it go too low so I just have to deal with mine. Good Luck!

Each person makes their own decision on who to tell and what to tell them. I have seem multiple people who were ashamed to tell others but had very positive outcomes. There are others who haven't been so fortunate.
Personally I chose not to tell anybody except my sister and my husband. I am 7 months out, down 91 lbs and still haven't told others. Part of me is ashamed it came to surgery and the other part of me doesn't want the judgement from others. As I stated this last weekend to some fellow sleevers I am a don't ask don't tell type person. I am not lying, just not shouting from the rooftops. If somebody asks if I had weight loss surgery I will talk to them about it. Unfortunately we live in a world surrounded by judgement and scrutiny there is no escaping that.
This is your personal decision on if you should tell, who you should tell and when you should tell them. Good luck in making your decision.

So Today I hit 149.2 lbs. According to my BMI I am NORMAL!
I had surgery March 20, 2013 and weighed in at 240 lbs. I have chosen to only tell 2 people. My husband and sister. So when I posted a picture this week it created quite a buzz. I have lost 91 lbs in 7 months and feel better then ever. I could not ask for a better change in my life I can run and play with my son and not get tired. I have been so blessed to have had an easy recovery and a sleeve of steel.
I have attached a picture from February 2013 and from this week.
