  1. I'm no expert, and I haven't had surgery yet - but it sounds to me like you may have a stricture. I would talk to my doctor about having an upper GI or an EGD

    Dont be a b***h

You will never be useless here - you're experiences and sweet disposition will always been needed!
  3. I'm not a newbie to Bariatric Pal, but I haven't had surgery yet. Just had my stress test today Still have: sleep study, NUT, psych, cardiologist and lose 14 more pounds (have lost 11 out of the 25 my doctor is requiring). Thinking mid to late November, maybe early December. (Could be sooner though . Bree (Brenda)

    Finding my Passion/Paying it Forward

JustWatchMe - What a great idea! I'm going to put that on my to-do list for after surgery. Kathy - I think you could add volunteering to support people on this site to your resume as well. You are always so positive and uplifting
  6. I'm going to have a hiatal hernia repair at this same time as my sleeve, too. I believe they send you home with liquid (oral) pain medication such as tylenol with codeine.

    Dont be a b***h

I did see that thread, and I wasn't talking about that particular one. If that's what the OP was talking about, I didn't see anything I would consider b****y there.

    Dont be a b***h

In my opinion, there are some snarky responses that show up on here from time to time. Some of them get deleted quickly by the administration. Others are clearly meant not to help, but to shame. A poster being told they didn't deserve surgery, just as one example. I don't see how that's just an honest response or tough love. Bariatric Pal has been an invaluable source of information and inspiration. By a large majority, the people here are supportive and helpful, but I have seen some remarks over the past 1 1/2 years that are just plain mean. Please don't beat me up for this post - just my opinion.
  10. @snowkitten. I'm so sorry you had such a rough go of it and such unplugged nurses. I hope things are going better!

    WLS Worries: Sagging Skin

I don't think you're being ridiculous. This has been a fear of mine, as well. I haven't had surgery yet - but I'm finally to the point where all my concerns (including loose skin) are just not as important as the possibility of being healthy and in less pain. I'm really glad you posted it - it was so nice to read all the responses from people who have lost a lot of weight, have loose skin and are okay with it!
  12. I am curious if anyone here goes to this support group (which meets on the first Tuesday of the month). I'm probably going to go to it next week and would love to meet people from bariatric pal in person. Brenda (Bree)

Congratulations, and wishing you and rapid recovery! Were you in surgery for 10 hours? Or you had surgery 10 hours ago?

Normal BMI - before & after

Thanks for posting, Mary - you are an inspiration and you look great! And happy . You should not be embarrassed about your before photos - you should be proud - just look at how far you've come.
  15. You have to make this decision when you are ready. I've been on this board for over 1 ½ years, and considered the sleeve for a couple of years prior to that. The enormity of what I would be facing post-op was really overwhelming to me, and I kept telling myself "I'll just try to lose on my own one more time." I'm am now completely sure of my decision and I'm glad I took the time to do research and to make sure this is what I needed to do.

    Finally!

    Congratulations!
  17. I am so sorry you ladies (and one of your daughters) are going through this! Thanks for letting us know about this possible complication. My thoughts and prayers for a rapid recovery are with you.
  18. My 16 year old daughter and I have a wonderful relationship. We are very much alike and make each other laugh every day. The worst part about being her mom is that she will be going away to college in 2 years and I will have an empty nest. Like a lot of posters to this site - I have become obsessed with this journey. I have yet to have surgery, but finally made the decision to do so after lurking here for over 1 1/2 years. She is understandably worried about me having the gastric sleeve surgery, but she wants me to be healthy so she is supportive (as much as she can be). She even went with me to meet the surgeon - but now she says she wants no part of it. She doesn't want me to come home from the hospital, she wants me to recuperate at my mom's. She has gotten to the point that if I mention anything about pre-surgical weight loss, possible plastic surgery in the future for saggy skin (I know, I know - I shouldn't have said anything to her about this - but we were watching "Botched," and it just came out). I feel like I should lean more on the people on this site who can understand my obsession and fears - so that's what I'm going to try to do. I don't want to get upset every time I open my mouth.
  19. From the National Association for Weight Loss Surgery, this is one of the top 10 sabotaging mistakes that weight loss surgery patients make. "3rd Mistake: Drinking with Meals Yes, it's hard for some people to avoid drinking with meals, but the tool of not drinking with meals is a critical key to long-term success. If you drink while you eat, your food washes out of your stomach much more quickly, you can eat more, you get hungry sooner, and you are at more risk for snacking. Being too hungry is much more likely to lead to poor food choices and/or overeating."
  20. I've been wondering what the heck that is / have been seeing it a lot on here lately
