  1. I could do fresh veggies provided they were cooked to a mushy consistency in week 3. I've been having oven roasted brussell sprouts cooked till they are really soft since week 3 and they have gone down easily.
  2. Same thing happened to me. I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm still leaning more towards diarrhea than solid. Hoping it will change as I eat more solids. Just stay hydrated (which it sounds like you are ).

    First date since VSG

Have fun, be yourself, smile often and use protection. (That last part was a joke..... maybe... ).

    Dizzy

This happened to me earlier in the week (around 2.5 weeks post op). I went to the emergency room as my blood pressure was pretty low. Turns out that I no longer need my blood pressure medication (it was making me dizzy as it was causing my blood pressure to dip to around 95/65). My fluids, nutrition, EKG, etc were all great - just super low blood pressure. I'm now off my blood pressure meds!!! If your dizziness persists, please have it checked out to make sure it's not something serious. Hope all is well for you soon!
  5. I'm 3 weeks out and other than some minor bumps already listed by others, I've had no complications or major problems. Down 29lbs. Just wish I would/could have done this sooner!!!!

    Calorie count for post-surgery

For breakfast I typically have a half a cup of 2% cottage cheese with a little natural pineapple juice on it and half a banana. For lunch I have soup or fish with a veggie. For dinner I have fish with a veggie or ricotta bake (recipe on here) with a veggie. So far, my veggie of choice has been oven roasted brussell sprouts tossed in olive oil with a little kosher salt. I roast them until they are fairly mushy. For snacks I have Greek yogurt, cheese and/or a fudgesicle. I also drink 2-3 cups of tea in addition to 40-60 oz of water. I should mention that I refuse to consume artificial sweeteners (my opinion is that they are far worse for you than real sugar but I respect others may disagree) so my yogurt, fudgesicle, etc are higher calorie. I try to keep my carbs under 60 grams. I'm 3 weeks post op and have lost 29 lbs.

How soon post-op did you start excercising?!

I went back to the gym 10 days after surgery but kept it to the treadmill increasing my speed a little bit each day. On day 17, I added high rep, low weight biceps, triceps and chest presses. On Monday (day 24), I'm going to try some squats and lunges in addition to the other strength training. A little scared to try abs quite yet. Hoping to be back with my trainer and going at it as hard core as my body will allow in a couple weeks (with the blessing of my surgeon). The toughest thing right now is having the energy for a good workout - trying to get my calories up (right now I'm at about 600-700) so I have more energy.

    (cheaters) Help

Couldn't agree more! I'm not playing Russian Roulette with my health or my life. It's not that long until most foods are back on the table - cheat or not.

    Calorie count for post-surgery

I'm 3 weeks out and getting about 600-700 calories per day usually with 3 meals and 2-3 snacks.

Can everyone believe it's been 3 weeks???? In some respects the time has flown by and in others, wish it would hurry up and get to 8 weeks. Anyhow, happy 3 week anniversary to all and hope everyone is happy with their progress thus far.

    10 days post-op

My Fitness Pal is a great way to track food, water and exercise. There are tons of people on this site using MFP and if you do a search, you will find a thread with user names who you can "friend". Good luck!

    4 Months Out....

I hope you are OK. My husband had the same thing a few years ago and it ended up being benign tumors on his thyroid. He has been fine since they were removed.

    Im home...now what?

I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm still not quite hitting my water and protein goals but I'm moving closer. In the first week, it was all about hydration (sip, sip, sip), walking and resting for me. Those three things were a full time job.

    gallbladder issues?

I've learned that eggs after GB removal are not pleasant.
  15. Not sure that I would do chili 3 weeks out - I'm cleared for that in week 5. I'm at the same place as you and my Dr. allows baked white fish provided it's very moist and mushy veggies. Small bites and chew, chew, chew. Hate to repeat what's already been said but most soups are a good choice too provided they don't have big pieces of meat or crunchy stuff. Good luck!

    Please Help Me Decide ...

This is a really tough question that probably only you can answer. When my husband and I attended various surgeons weight loss seminars, he thought the band would be the best choice but said he would support whatever I chose. I didn't like the idea of something "foreign" in my body and it seems like everyone I know "knows somebody who had issues with the band" <== sounds hypocritical as I'm super sensitive to these comments about WLS in general. I also didn't like the idea of all the adjustments. While I know a few people who had bypass with great success, I didn't like the idea of rerouting stuff and dumping scared me (although this happens for some with the sleeve - so far not me luckily!). I'm happy with my choice (I'm 3 weeks post op) but the pre-op diet and first week after surgery were tough for me. You seem to be doing the right things by researching your options and considering the pros/cons of each. I think if you pick a good surgeon with lots of experience and do your research on them, your risk of a leak or other complications should be low but there's always a risk with any surgery. Something to consider is finding a "Center of Excellence" surgeon. Oh, and I should mention that you have to do your part as well by following your Dr's orders regarding diet and other instructions as your new tummy heals. Even if your Dr does a great job, you can screw it up by deviating from his orders. Best wishes to you as you decide what is the best choice for you.
  17. My breakdown was on day 2. I tried to eat a popsicle and it hurt soooooo much. I had to be talked of the ledge by one of the bariatric nurses. It took about a week until I felt kinda ok. I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow and still struggling at times but my life has started to return to normal. It will get better - just a little bit every day. Hang in there!!

    Tea

I'm brewing my own tea at home (Luzianne cold brew) and it's going down much easier than water.

    Swimming after surgery?

My surgeon cleared me for swimming at 1st post op appt (1 week after surgery). I still had the glue on my incisions and he felt they were healing nicely. I waited until 2 weeks post op and no issues. I'm now 3 weeks and my glue is all off and incisions look good.

    So tired!

I'm 3 weeks post op and I completely understand how you feel. Seems like I'm sleeping close to 12 hours a day between the night and naps. Trying to get my calories and protein up but it's hard when you can only eat so much at once. Hoping each day gets a tiny bit better!!! <== She types as she nods off.

    5 hours out - reporting :)

I had to pee about every 1.5 hours due to the IV fluids - it was so annoying especially because it was such an ordeal to get out of the bed, move the IV stand and carry my pain ball. I guess it was a good thing to have to move that much but very annoying to have to get up so often at night! Good luck to you - it gets better every day. I'm almost 3 weeks out and doing a TON better. :-)

    **May 31st**

Thanks ladies - gotta admit I was a bit scared there for a bit and am relieved it wasn't anything serious. I feel a ton better today. Just got back from lunch with a former co-worker - first time eating out since surgery. We went to PF Changs and I had a bowl of Egg Drop Soup and 4-5 pieces of edamame. I ate slow and everything went down just fine. Co-worker didn't say anything about what or how little I was eating..... yeah!!!

    **May 31st**

Soooooo, just got back from the emergency room. I'm fine . I've been dizzy all day and it got pretty bad tonight. Took my blood pressure and it was 95/65 so my husband insisted we go to ER. I was thinking it was either dehydration (even though I've been doing ok with liquids) or low potassium (ongoing problem for me). Turns out my hydration, potassium and nutrition levels were all good (potassium was highest it's been in awhile). The culprit????? Blood pressure meds. The ER doc wants me to stop taking them, monitor blood pressure (have machine at home) and follow-up with primary. I still let them pump me full of some liquids so I'm feeling great right now!!! It was a scare but luckily nothing bad. Bonus was that my nutrition and electrolytes were in good shape which is nice to know considering my limited food consumption as this point. Guess what I'm eating is good and the vitamins are doing the trick.
