  1. I jog 20min, zumba, 30min yoga, kickboxing, 6mi walk, squats, and butt exercises 6days a week. I don't have a specific routine, everyday except Sundays I get in 60-90min of any of those exercises. I'm 8wks post-op I've been clear for all exercises and foods.

  2. Ha!!! I do miss some pig out sessions every now and then!!! ;) I have been taking Centrum chewables (not gummies' date=' these are more like a clingstone vitamin). Orange flavor, not too bad. But I also was told if I take those that I need to add in selenium. I don't... But I probably should look into it. Same with my Calcium a, I take a chewable wafer... Definitely not my favorite... But it gets the job done.

I'm with you with the sleeve of steel! I haven't found much that doesn't sit well with me. However, I have found that I'm stuffed right away, then hungry again within the hour. Perhaps I'm eating too fast, not sure.[/quote']

Same here... I get stuffed real quick and then hungry again. I just drink my Water or hot tea it usually does the job.

  3. I have been doing good. Progress has been pretty steady. Surgery was 3 months ago' date=' I'm down 30 lbs since. 50 lbs total. I think the only struggle I have now is taking my Vitamins. I keep them on my desk at work and still forget to take them! LOL! I have the memory of an old lady!

    How have you been doing???[/quote']

I've been doing good...I think I have one of those "sleeve of steel" I can tolerate anything. I love icy cold drinks, hot tea and spicy stuff. The problem I'm having is slowing down...I tend to eat way too fast and that's when I get in trouble. I'm having problems with my multi and Calcium pills, they're way to big and I hate the after taste, so for now I'm taking calcium chewy bites and I need to find an alternative to my multi. My tummy just don't like them lol. I've lost a total of 66lbs (35 preop & 31 post-op). I never know how I'm going to feel the next day which is strange, but I guess this too shall pass. I'm slowly gaining my energy back as the days go by. I love my sleeve except for the days where I just want to bury my face in Chinese food LOL.

  4. @Jessica anything and everything counts! I try not to over do it because exercising take a lot from us because we're consuming so little at a time. So its a learning process for me to take it easy both in exercising and eating lol. My eyes and mouth are way too big for my little tummy at times, but slowly we'll all get the hang of it.

  5. That's AWESOME that you're losing wt now. The doctors like to see that because it gives them a sense that you're serious about wls. I could have had my surgery sooner, but I had gained wt over Christmas and New yrs. I went from 316 to 322. And that's when I told myself that its now or never and starting on Jan 3rd I went from 322 to 287 on the day of surgery 4/9/13 and today I'm at 256 with a goal of 235 by 7/10/13 at my 3mos post-op appt. Each time I challenge myself...it gets easier by the day, but some days I just can't get anything down so I pray and slowly my appetite starts to come back. You'll see when you're on the other side that each individual is unique in their own way with wls.

  6. Total time from start to surgery day for me was 5mos, but its different for everyone. I have no comorbidities, thankfully! My suggestion is to workout as much as you can preop and get yourself into an exercise routine no matter how big/small. It will help tremendously with the recovery process. I walked 1.59mi 10days after surgery...it wasn't easy, but I did it. Now I'm 256lbs and jogging 20min nonstop 5days a week and walking 5-6mi 2days a week. Feel free to ask me any questions you have and hopefully I can help in any way possible.

  7. Hahahaha...oops I forgot that part lol. After my psych eval it was a waiting game because I had met with Dr Chu on 12/19/12 and i had to lose 26lbs before i can get a surgery date and my psych eval was on 2/5/13. They have a list of how the process should go, but I think its dependent on the individual because I was not suppose to have my psych eval until I am 5lbs within my surgery wt. and I was nowhere near that number.

  8. thats great! I just got the call from fremont and I have the orientation June 9 and and the psych apt June 20!

Hello there...which Dr are you going with. I'm 7wks 3days post-op and I went with Dr Chu. She's amazing! No complications...healing really well and doing great. Can pretty much tolerate any kinds of foods.

  9. my surgery was april10th' date=' how are you doing? I'm finding the Protein shakes to be horrible. Any suggestions? Congrats on the new beginning !!

    [/quote']

I'm doing good...moving around a lot. I'm still feeling some pain on my right side but its tolerable. I just mixed up 11oz premier chocolate Protein shake, 1/4 banana, 2Tbsp Peanut Butter, 6-8 ice cubes and blend its delicious. Try that maybe you'll like it. I still have a hard time getting my Protein in but I'm trying. I get in probably around 30-40g a day. I need 60-70g, so I really need to work on it.

  10. Hey everyone so My surgery is Thursday and I'm freaking out! Anyone else as nervous as me?? I'm trying to make a grocery list for my liquid only diet... Anyone have suggestions of what they did??! I need help!!!! I'm super scared!

My surgery is tomorrow morning and I just bought sugar free Jello, pudding, fudge pops, popsicles, plain Greek yogurt, and bananas for my Protein Shakes. I figured that should be enough to hold me over at least for this week. I'll be on full liquids for 2wks post-op until I'm cleared for soft phase.

Fortunately I haven't been nervous or anything...why?...I'm not sure. I was more freaked out about preop appt, I guess I'm just ready to get it done. Best of luck to you and praying for a speedy and healthy recovery for you.

  11. I'm a Kaiser member as well here in nor cal (Fremont Kaiser). I'm having my surgery tomorrow with Dr Chu...she's amazing! I'm first in line check in time is 6am. My process took a total of 5 mos from surgeon orientation to surgery day. Congrats to those of you who have been sleeved and for those of us that are on our way. Best of luck to all.

  12. I didn't realize you were the beholder of all medical knowledge about bands and sleeves. Obviously my surgeon did not realize this either and failed to consult with you. Thankfully I have my operative pictures and you can clearly see my inflamed spleen laying on my band. Seems like you might need to learn your anatomy a little better because as a nurse I can tell you it is absolutely possible for a spleen to get in the way especially when it swells. I'm so glad you gave me all your divine wisdom here so i guess that just erases everything I went through the past week because YOU have deemed it can't be possible. Are you kidding me??? I didn't post on here to get your approval or permission but obviously you feel the need to give your uneducated rediculous opinions. The fact the the sleeve was unexpected was because the surgeon told me he would not know what he could do until he got in there and if the stomach was to swollen he would only be able to remove the band. Again I must tell him to consult with you from now on because you have all the answers. Would you like to see my operative pictures' date=' reports, hospital records? I wouldn't want you to be misguided. This surgeon did me an enormous favor by handling this but that is what happens in the medical profession when you are a NICE and UPSTANDING person in the field. I'm grateful for this surgeon and he has wonderful bedside manner as well as great operative numbers. He has even called me at home each day to make sure that I feel okay. I didn't say I had an erosion or a slip. I said I had a prolapse so you might want to do your research before you run your negative mouth and make an attempt to call me a liar. The only thing not right here is YOU. Worry about your own journey and I will take care of mine. What would I have to gain to make up a story and post it on here especially when I have already lost my weight ( not 20 pounds). You might want to respond to the other members that have responded to me and have gone through the same thing and let them know that they are lieing as well and that this experience didn't really happen to them. Feel free to not comment to me because i don't waste my precious life on negative and ugly people.[/quote']

Hi Shucky...so sorry you had to endure such a nasty response. I'm preop with surgery on April 9th hope you are feeling better and healing well. You know the truth and lived through it. Continue pushing forward and best of luck to you on your journey as I'm right behind ya.

Oh and you handled yourself very well in response to this poster.

Best of luck to you and God Bless!

  13. You're doing really good before you know you've reached your goal. I've been following the 1200 cal plan that's in your binder and doing lots of cardio like zumba p90 kenpo, couch 2 5k 3x a wk, and I've also done a crash diet that consist of 1 Protein Shake in the morning, Water throughout the day and salad however you like for dinner before 8pm. I lost 10lbs in 5 days. I had to make the changes now and since then my husband and 3 daughters have been following right behind me lol. Its been an awesome journey so far.

Oh yea before I forget I drink 80-120 ounces of water everyday. You'll pee like a horse but its worth it. I also use mio, and dasani drops to flavor my water only 20-40 oz though and the rest are straight water.

    Rishida[/quote']

  15. When do they weigh you at the first class or the nut? I'm stuck between losing or staying the same right now. I'm having a hard time not losing. Which is actually a problem bc I don't want to not qualify.

I'm horrified of paying premiums about 350 a month and almost never using the damn insurance & then going through all these hoops & losing the 10% & then to have them deny me.

If I have that happen I will feel very cheated.I know that if lost 10% which for me is 22# that I will be at a bmi too low for wls (37.5)

I pay out of pocket for my ins & I think I could cancel at any time. But I was much skinnier when I got kaiser & not on meds for Bp or diagnosed with Pcos. I doubt I'll have an easy time finding a reasonable plan (1000deductable, 30% co-insurance,3-400 a month) with a different carrier such as aetna or united.

Anyone out there had any luck with other insurances in virginia?

    Thanks!

Hi Rebeca...if you're worried about your bmi going under 40 after losing the required 10%, no worries. Kaiser will except your highest wt with bmi of 40+ no comorbidities or 35 with comorbidities within 12mos of weigh in. I'll use myself as an example, I have no comorbidities, my wt on record was 316 bmi 46-47 12/19/12, highest wt not on record 322 1/3/13, currently I weigh 287 bmi 42, if I weigh 260 bmi 38 at preop appt or day of surgery, I'll still have surgery because Kaiser accepts your highest wt that qualified you to begin with. I think the qualification process is the same for all Kaiser members across the board, whether you're an out of pocket member or through employment.

I also read that your pcp is not supportive of your decision...that's not kool. You should consider looking into getting another pcp. I found that for me personally, the more supporters you have the better off you are. I didn't tell very many people about my surgery, but for sure when I'm post-op, if I'm asked I have no problems with sharing my journey. I hope the above information is helpful and if you have any questions feel free to ask me.
