  1. I never kept it a secret, but I am an open book for the most part. I'm a nurse and if I didn't tell my coworkers they would have thought I had a serious illness or something. I like to educate so I don't mind talking about it either. I feel I got more support with being upfront that I thought I would. I had only a few negative comments which were from family. You might be surprised how much support you might get.

  2. I am sorry your husband is not supportive or proud of you, you should be proud of your success. A husband should love you unconditionly and support you not belittle you or be embarrassed to be seen with you. It is sad that he is so insecure in himself he has to act like ass to feel better about himself- a real man would be proud of his wife and want to show it the world. I have been on both sides of that fence and I prefer to have a caring and loving husband who supports me. My ex husband was very much the same way and it made my self esteem go in the toilet. It is your life and you are the only one who can create happiness, don't give him the power to take it away.

  3. If the meds stayed in my system all day, I would not need to take it twice a day. I also can't take muscle relaxers anymore. 20 minutes and they are out of my system like I hadn't taken them. They don't even have a chance to do anything. Have you already had surgery, or no? I'm surprised to see someone on here who has had surgery be surprised about how meds react now.

Yes, I had a sleeve done 1 year ago and how medicine is broken down was something I researched and talked to pharmacist about since I take thyroid meds. With a sleeve medicine is not absorbed any different or metabolized differently according to the pharmacist and doctor. I am also a Registered Nurse for ten years. My point was that standard practice with add meds is a long acting taken in the morning and if additional is needed then a short acting is used. Taking a long acting twice a day is not approved by the FDA and can cause complications with your heart.

  4. I was put on vivance twice a day. Would love one more short acting dose of Ritalin so I could stay awake on the bus on the way home. I'm pretty much tired all the time. Won't be going back til March to reeval meds.

Vyvanse twice a day?? That is odd because it's a long acting drug, meaning it's intended to be taken only once per day. If you need a short acting med Ritalin and Vyvanse are two different drugs that should not be combined. But if you are taking the vyvanse twice a day you can't add a short acting med. It's too much on your heart because both drugs are stimulants and affect the heart. Sorry as a RN it concerns me:)

  5. Hello Room I had my surgery Jan 8th and am only down 56 pounds I am so frustrated and almost regretting having the surgery!! It almost seems like the only thing I gained was a smaller stomach where I can't hardly eat anything!!! Please help is anyone else experiencing this I need support I'm so emotional right now and I feel like a failure!!!

Are you getting your Protein and Water in?? That makes a big difference when you don't see the scale moving.

  6. Am trying to figure out ADHD meds after the surgery. Has anyone attempted the Extended release options, or just accepted that it won't work after VSG? I've not had a good experience so far with Ritalin. Once it kicks in, I feel normal for about four hours then I crash and it feels like my symptoms are magnified. I take my second dose two hours later and feel normal for four hours then crash. Then my partner has to practically kick me out of bed in the AM. My doc wanted to put me in the patch, but I react badly to adhesive. Oi! I have found things that say XR are OK for the sleeve, but not for bypass. Just wondering if anyone has tried it.

    .

I had a sleeve 1/23/13 and was on generic concerta prior to surgery for ADD and I still take it without any issues. Concerta is the long acting Ritalin. I don't like the short acting drugs that I have to take twice a day.

  7. We nurses are care takers and tend to put ourselves last. I know many healthcare workers who have had Bariatric surg to improve their health. I know for me with working crazy hours taking care of patients and my family I left no time to care for me. I had WLS to take back control of my health. Now I put myself first so that I ca better care for others.

  8. My primary doc did this and I did get rashes and skin adhesions due to excessive skin under my breast. But my insurance which is Cigna refused to cover a breast lift/ reduction because it was considered cosmetics . I tried appealing it but was told my condition was not a life threatening condition and was not a covered procedure. So I said out of pocket for my breast surgery. Good luck getting insurance to cover.

  9. How close were you to goal weight before you had surgery ? I see a lot of after pics where the person seems to have an odd thick shape and I don't want that' date=' is that because they still had access fat to lose and not just skin ? Has anyone ever used a teaching hospital where residents do the work under supervision ? My price quoted from them was half that of others but I would like to hear thoughts on this. Also if you had surgery (tummy tuck/breast lift w/augmentation) how long were you off work ? Thanks ![/quote']

I had a breast lift 11 days ago and will be going back to work this week. I am a RN so my doc didn't want be back too soon. If I had a desk job I could have went back after 1 week. I am 5 lbs from my personal goal but have passed my WLS doc goal. Most plastics docs want you to be at a stable weight for the best outcome. As for using a teaching hospital well it depends on if you care about the scaring or not, because an inexperienced resident will be doing the sutures and if not done correctly you have worse scaring.

  10. My sleeve was done 1/23/13 and I'm down 108# including pre op liquid diet. I am so thrilled about how much better I feel and the energy I have;). I do have some loose skin but my breast took the biggest hit so I consulted a plastic surgeon and had a breast lift without implants this week!! I am still 10 # from my goal and hope to achieve my goal by my 1 year anniversary. If I stayed at my current weight 160 and never lost another pound I still am happy with my results!

  11. I have been thinking about upping my natural intake of micronutrients by increasing kale' date=' other greens, other veggies etc in some sort of Protein drink concoction. sounds gross, but I cant think of a better way to get all that good stuff without popping supplement pills - i want real foodsources. Those vitamixes are pricey. I own a magic bullet, not sure how well it cando the job I will test it. Curious if there are others who do this and what type of device is needed.[/quote']

I own a Vitamix and love it!! It's great for thick frosty like shakes, almond butter,. It liquified fruit and veggies. Great customer service and 7 yr war twenty;)

  12. Have you tried Melatonin?? It's natural and safe to take daily. My daughter's doc has her start taking about 3 years ago to help her since she has ADHD. I started using it last year and it really helps me feel relaxed and sleep better and feel related in the morning.

  13. I am also pre op and ordered a Quest Bar variety pack from Amazon. I had one for breakfast every day and once in a while had another for an afternoon snack. After about 5 days I started having cramps and diarrhea. I think I need to find another bar.

They have a ton of fiber so One Bar a day max!! I have been eating then for months but limit them to no more that 1 per day.
