  1. Thank you very much! I'm sorry to hear that, I hope it's nothing serious. Better to be safe than sorry.
  2. Thank you! It's much appreciated.!
  3. Thanks Laura-ven...I'll look into it! And thanks tigerbelle :-) I hope I can put this behind me soon.
  4. This isn't meant to scare anyone but here goes my story. I'm 19 days post op and since day 1 I have struggled to liquids. 1 bottle of Isopure and 8 ounces of water was all I could drink in a day. As the days went by, it got harder and harder for me. I had the sensation of suffocating and drowning at the same time. At my 10 day post op appointment my surgeon said it was normal to struggle with drinking liquids and to focus on staying hydrated. This past weekend I was feeling so sluggish and out of it that I spent the entire time sleeping. So by Monday I couldn't take it anymore, I could barely finish a 12 oz bottle of water in a day and my anxiety kicked in big time so I called my surgeon and left a message. He called me the next day and I told him all I had been going through, he said it wasn't normal and so I had to get something similar to the leak test done the next day. I had the test this morning and it turned out the fluids I drink get stuck in my esophagus and take forever to go down. I went to my surgeon right after and he told me there was a narrowing where my esophagus meets the stomach(lucky me) and the solution would be to stretch out that area. So he sends me immediately to the GI specialist and the first thing she notices is that I'm extremely dehydrated, it was so bad they couldn't find the veins to stick the IV in that they had no choice but to use the veins in my inner wrist(very very painful). While I was knocked out, the GI doctor informed my dad that it looked like my esophagus was a bit bent(still trying to figure how that's possible) and due to my surgery having been recent, she did not feel comfortable stretching out the narrow area. Instead she has prescribed me some medication that's supposed to help. So the moral of the story is if you're recently post op and can't drink much, call your surgeon or go to the ER...it could be nothing or it could be something. If anyone has had a similar experience, I would love to hear about it
  5. I am also taking protein shots(started yesterday). I know people are against it because its not completely whey isolate protein but there are some of us out there who just cannot consume the amount of protein that our respective surgeons have told us to. I'm 17 days post op, can barely get in half a bottle of isopure and can barely drink 12 oz of water..there has to be an alternative to ready made protein drinks and shakes. These protein shots seem like a better alternative because there's less to consume.
  6. My surgery was 1/11. I think I'll try those once I'm out of my protein shots. I thought it would be a piece of cake to get in my 80 grams of daily protein but its sooo hard that I'm lucky if I can get in half.
  7. I can relate to both of you! 16 days post op and sick of being sick and not being able to get in my protein. I started feeling really strange due to lack of protein so I took a trip to the Vitamin Shoppe today and bought something called New Whey Protein..it has 42 grams of protein and is much smaller than the isopure drinks so hopefully this will help until I can start having real food. Good luck to the both of you!
  8. So I'm 2 weeks post op and for the last few days I've been having this weird pain on and off. It's on my left side near one of my incisions, it isn't so bad where I'm rolling around in pain but it can get uncomfortable. The best way to describe it would be a sharp stabbing/pulling sensation and it only seems to happen if I'm laying down and want to turn over or if I'm trying get out of bed. I have a pretty high pain tolerance which is why i haven't called my surgeon. Has anyone experienced something like this?
  9. Try using Isopure flavorless protein powder and mix it in a chicken broth. I have the same problem as you as far as liquid/protein intake and am 13 days post op. Lots of luck to you! :-)
  10. That actually makes me feel hopeful! Thanks for sharing :-)
  11. Congratulations! You look fabulous!
  12. Thanks to everyone for your advice and sharing your experiences! My surgeon has me on Prilosec for the next 3 months and I'm still on clear liquids until Friday..then I move onto thick protein shakes and soups. So maybe my new stomach is just a pain in the ass.
  13. I'm 12 days post-op and I just started school yesterday...it's embarrassing being in class with the stomach gurgles..will it go away? How do I make it stop? Gas X does absolutely nothing.
  14. Thank you! Lucky for me I have my first post-op appointment Monday morning. Hopefully it's nothing
  15. I'm 8 days post-op and this morning I noticed one of my incisions has a red circle surrounding it while the others don't..is this normal? Should i be worried? Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I'm 6 days post-op, for the last 4 days I have been experiencing what I think are extreme hunger pains mixed with a sort of pressure feeling going in an upwards motion(if that makes sense?). I'm on Prilosec and I take gas x chewables religiously. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this or something similar? I need all the help I can get because this is driving me nuts.
  17. I was sleeved 1/11 and am down 9 pounds. I'm getting sick of the clear liquid diet though :-(
  18. You're not alone. I'm only 2 days post op, barely got home today and this unexplainable sadness came over me. Hopefully as time passes buy and our scars heal, our mental scars will heal as well.
  19. Thank you very much! I'll keep your advice in mind.
