    BORICUA..wepppaa

  4. It sure seems like a lot of food to be able to eat at 2 months out. What sounds alarming to me is that you were able to eat a whole taco in 5 minutes.

    Any sleevers under 24?

I'm 24 and 10 weeks post op. Its been difficult for me school wise, I was sleeved 11 days before the semester started and thought I'd be ready in time to start school but I soon realized that going full time was emotionally and physically draining so I ended up dropping most of my classes. You need to take time to focus on you, if you can. Going out can be a pain because eating is virtually impossible and drinking is not allowed for awhile and that's kind of a bummer. The good thing is we have the rest of our lives ahead of us and can make the most of our 20s :-)

    Nsaids after surgery!

I suffer from lower back pain due to a central disc herniation and brought up the topic of NSAIDS at my last appointment. My surgeon said no. Told me to take Tylenol but that's ineffective for my pain so he suggested I take the liquid pain meds he gave me after surgery. I asked my regular doctor yesterday if there are any other alternatives besides lortab and she prescribed Ultram(also known as Tramadol). I haven't tried it yet but am hoping it works. Good luck to you, hope you find some relief for your pain.

    only hungry at night!

Yours is a little different than mine. I don't get hungry until 2pm. At my last appointment I told my surgeon and he said I have to eat in the mornings whether I like it or not. I think you should perhaps try eating light things throughout the day such as string cheese, soups, yogurt, etc. I would definitely recommend speaking to your surgeon about this because your situation does sound odd. Good luck, hope things get better for you.

    still wanting fast food?

What phase of the diet are you on? Best thing to do is keep yourself busy. It's tough but you CAN overcome this.

    6 weeks...

That's something I discussed with my surgeon today since I'm chronically dehydrated. He said to sip all day and always keep a bottle of water with me. I asked if I could use a straw and he said if I think it will help then to go for it.

    Rewards

I bought myself some Ray Ban glasses for loosing my first 30 pounds.
  13. So today I had my second post-op appointment. I'm down 34 pounds since surgery plus the 20 pounds I lost pre-op. Unfortunately I have been chronically dehydrated for a few weeks now due to what initially was thought to be a stricture but turns out was just my sleeve being swollen. My surgeon said my main focus right now needs to be increasing my liquid and protein intake. I'm only able to get in 32 oz of water and about 20 grams of protein. Protein shakes, shots, and isopure don't sit well with me..if anyone has suggestions about how to get the necessary amount of protein in, I would appreciate it :-)

6 weeks 5 days post op

Not in jello but I've used isopure unflavored powder with soups and I also mix it with crystal light when I add it to water. But I'll try your suggestion, thanks :-)

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I confess that at I drink soda occasionally. I confess I am not even close to mastering the art of eating slow, therefore every time I eat it feels like I'm swallowing a knife :-( I confess that given the limited small portions I can consume, I would just rather not eat.
  16. I went with South Bay Surgeons, specifically Dr. Solomon. He had removed my gallbladder 3 years prior so I stuck with him to do my gastric sleeve this year. He's a great surgeon. Go with what you feel is best for you

Congratulations on the weight loss! :-) I hope you get hydrated soon!

    Dehydration...not a fan!

I saw him that same day before he sent me off to the GI specialist and he said I would have to be dilated. His office called me yesterday to see how I was doing, I told them I was pretty much the same. The receptionist said she'd tell my surgeon and if they needed any more info then they'd call me back.

    Dehydration...not a fan!

Nope. I'm going to my regular doctor tomorrow to talk to her about this. I'm extremely worried of about being dehydrated again and the potential consequences. ,

    Dehydration...not a fan!

GI specialist took a look with the camera last week but wouldn't stretch out the area because she said since my surgery was done recently(1/11) she didn't want to risk damaging the sutures. So I'm left in limbo basically :-(

    Dehydration...not a fan!

That is a great motivator lol. I envy you...I've got a stricture so that makes staying hydrated a mission impossible.

VSGKirk...how are you able to drink a 16.9 oz bottle in 90 minutes? Please share your secret. It takes me almost the entire day to finish a bottle of water.
  23. This thread has me on pins and needles. On Wednesday it was discovered while I was in the OR for an upper GI that I was dehydrated, it took forever to find my veins to get the IV going. They gave me two bags of IV fluids then sent me home...ever since then I've been able to manage 16.9 ounces of water a day at most(i have a stricture which makes it difficult to drink the necessary amount). Should I be concerned?
  24. This isn't meant to scare anyone but here goes my story. I'm 19 days post op and since day 1 I have struggled to liquids. 1 bottle of Isopure and 8 ounces of water was all I could drink in a day. As the days went by, it got harder and harder for me. I had the sensation of suffocating and drowning at the same time. At my 10 day post op appointment my surgeon said it was normal to struggle with drinking liquids and to focus on staying hydrated. This past weekend I was feeling so sluggish and out of it that I spent the entire time sleeping. So by Monday I couldn't take it anymore, I could barely finish a 12 oz bottle of water in a day and my anxiety kicked in big time so I called my surgeon and left a message. He called me the next day and I told him all I had been going through, he said it wasn't normal and so I had to get something similar to the leak test done the next day. I had the test this morning and it turned out the fluids I drink get stuck in my esophagus and take forever to go down. I went to my surgeon right after and he told me there was a narrowing where my esophagus meets the stomach(lucky me) and the solution would be to stretch out that area. So he sends me immediately to the GI specialist and the first thing she notices is that I'm extremely dehydrated, it was so bad they couldn't find the veins to stick the IV in that they had no choice but to use the veins in my inner wrist(very very painful). While I was knocked out, the GI doctor informed my dad that it looked like my esophagus was a bit bent(still trying to figure how that's possible) and due to my surgery having been recent, she did not feel comfortable stretching out the narrow area. Instead she has prescribed me some medication that's supposed to help. So the moral of the story is if you're recently post op and can't drink much, call your surgeon or go to the ER...it could be nothing or it could be something. If anyone has had a similar experience, I would love to hear about it
