  1. I had my 2 year Surgiversay this past Sunday (2/22/13). My starting weight was 336 lbs. I now weigh 223 lbs. I avoid fast food, anything fried, refined sugar, alcohol and carbonated drinks. I know I would have lost more weight sooner If I would engage in some form of exercise, which I refuse to do. No excuses, not lazy but I feel I have sacrificed plenty.

Enjoying my new lifestyle. I remember the days of struggling to tie my shoes like it was yesterday. Never going back!

  2. Tomorrow is my 1 year surgi-versay. 96 lbs lost. Still a work in progress.

Congrats on a great accomplishment! Isn't it great when people comment about the picture on our CDL's... I just worry that one day someone will say hey this isn't you! Keep up the awesome work you will get to goal!

I work with a woman who was out of work for 4 months, recovering from a horrible traffic accident. Upon her return, she walked past me not recognizing who I was. That was probably the best feeling I have experienced since my surgery.

  3. Hello Everyone!

Its been awhile since I posted on/or even looked at this forum. I was sleeved on Feb 27 2013 almost 1 year ago.

I have lost 87 pounds since then, hoping to round it off to an even 90 by the end of the month.

I am still about 30 pounds off from my goal weight.

Jacee -The similarities we share are uncanny. I was sleeved 5 days before you. The difference between our weight loss is 9 pounds. You are 30 pounds from your goal weight, I am 39. I haven't lost 1 lb since Thanksgiving. I am not eating anything (honest) I shouldn't, though my portion sizes have increased. At this point, I think only exercise stands between us and our collective goal weight. I play drums in a band, but that's not taking off the weight. It's time for me to hit the bike.

  4. I often find myself helping others, when somebody reaches a plateau and gets discouraged. However, I have not lost a pound since Thanksgiving. I have gone through several plateaus, but never experienced one lasting six weeks. Though I have lost 95 lbs so far, I would like to get back on track. I Celebrate my 1 year suri-versary on the 22 of next month. Anyone experience anything similar?

  5. "I believe a magic number does not exist, as there are too many variables to factor. How many calories are consumed, amount of exercise, age, genetics, etc. Anyone that believes that the surgery alone will lead them to their goal weight is mistaken. WE must change our eating habits and refrain from eating the foods that lead to our obesity."

I totally agree with you on this. That's the part that is so important to realize. My surgeon told me I could expect to lose 60-70% of my excess weight from the surgery alone, which would be 70 to 80 lbs for me. The rest he said would come off if I stuck with the lifestyle changes. He emphasized how people can defeat their WLS by not sticking with their plan and returning to the habits that caused them to be so obese in the first place. It is my biggest fear that I could go off the rails and regain all the weight I've lost!

Simply being aware of what can happen makes me certain you will not return to your old habits. Despite getting cravings every now and then, I absolutely refuse to cave...even a little (which often leads to alot). After all, nothing tastes as good as thin feels!

  6. My doctor told me that as time goes by, we (sleeve patients) will gradually eat more. I know I have, and my weight loss has slowed as a result. However, I make a conscience effort to eat nutritious foods. Personally, there are three types of food I avoid. Fast food, fried food and refined sugar.

Speaking for myself, I thought the weight loss would continue at the same rate as it did during the first few months. Of course that doesn't happen. However, my doctor conveyed that losing 100 lbs in the first year is typical. I will be at the 10 month on 12/22 and have lost 93 lbs. No complaints here!

Nice perspective thank you and congrats!! Did your dr say how long sleevers will lose for-- I know there's a percentage that's used but I never know how to figure out what percentage I've list and what I can still expect- I was 319 now 206 since 2/25/13 ...

It is difficult to obtain exact numbers on percentages of excess body weight loss. Through comparing various medical forums concerning "our" procedure, the average person realized a 66% loss of excessive weight, through surgery alone. Obviously, a proper diet and exercise will increase weight loss.

So, I put this number to the test! I began my journey at 335 lbs. 66% of 335 lbs would equate to 114 lbs lost, which would put me at 221 lbs. I am presently 242 pounds, and have lost 93 pounds, but have at least 40-50 lbs to go. However, it is typical to lose weight for 2-3 years post-op. Presently, I am a few weeks short of 10 months post-op. So I am slightly ahead of the curve. (100 pounds lost per year is typical).

I believe a magic number does not exist, as there are too many variables to factor. How many calories are consumed, amount of exercise, age, genetics, etc. Anyone that believes that the surgery alone will lead them to their goal weight is mistaken. WE must change our eating habits and refrain from eating the foods that lead to our obesity.

  8. Today is day 10 post-op for me. I am having such a frustrating tearful time. Besides the gas with every sip of anything, I am having such a difficult time tolerating and getting down the Protein drinks. Since I have a sensitivity to artificial sweeteners I have been using shake brands with stevia. After my surgery I have been struggling with getting them down and averaging 20 grams of Protein and about 250 calories daily. This morning I had an unjury chicken Soup that my dietician gave me. I ordered the unflavored Unjury a couple days ago and can hardly wait for delivery.

So to make a long story not too long let me cut to the chase...I went to GNC looking for unflavored Isopure Protein powder. They didn't have any. Then I went to Walmart and nothing. I caved and went to the dairy section and grabbed low fat ricotta, low fat cottage cheese and Chobani's Plain Greek Yogurt. When I got home I made a shake with skim milk, greek yogurt, ricotta and half a teaspoon of sugar. This of course is not on the plan my doctor has me on. I am suppose to have 6 more days of protein shakes before I start with a pureed diet. Can anyone tell me the damage I am doing to my sleeve? Thanks so much for your help all.

Damage to your sleeve? don't be silly! I am almost 9 months post-op. Your body will tell you what you can handle. You know what sensible food is. You don't need anyone to remind or scare you. At first, I was able to tolerate soft foods, Soups, Jello, cottage cheese, etc. From there you will graduate to more solid foods.

Thus far, I have lost 92 pounds. I stay away from foods that contained refined sugar, anything fried, carbonated beverages and fast food. So far so good. Remember to eat slowly and chew your food well. The more you are able to walk, the faster your body will rid itself of the gas (trapped air during surgery).

    Enjoy your journey!

  9. What's your average loss a month now? Mine used to be 10. But the past couple of months it's been around 5........

Although there will always be those that blow the curve (on both sides), the amount of weight loss seems pretty easy to predict. Your date of surgery was three days after mine. Our total weight loss is within 1 lb!!

My surgery date was 2/22 and I have lost 91 pounds.

I believe it is unrealistic to experience weight loss at the same rate as we did six months ago, being nearly 100 lbs lighter. As long we maintain a healthy diet, we will achieve our goals.

  10. You know how a brand new leather shoe feels when you wear it for the first time? Its rigid until you break it in...and it will get better every day. The key is to walk as much as possible. It will not only loosen your new stomach, it will rid your body of the gas that gets trapped during the procedure. I can't stress it enough...walk as much as you can, post-op. You won't experience much pain...just take it slow and don't push yourself too much. I am 8 months post-op and down 90 lbs. It will happen to each of you too! Best wishes on your journeys. :-)

  11. Don't feel bad. I've been stuck at 98-99lbs and can't get to my first goal of 100lbs down. It has been one month with no change, but I am being patient because I know it will happen eventually.

It sounds trivial when someone say's "Hang in there, it will happen", The fact is, it DOES happen. As long as you are watching what you eat, losing weight is inevitable. I finally broke my stall a couple of weeks ago, which was almost a month. I stay away from fast food, fried foods and refined sugar like the plague. During a three week span, I lost a total of 2 lbs but my clothes continued to get smaller.

  12. 76 pounds gone since Feb 27th. Yes the scale is moving very slowly these days. Still only 44 pounds till goal I am hoping that I will reach my goal by my "surgiversary" Feb 2014.

Don't panic! I lost almost nothing last month, but have resumed losing the past couple of weeks...(2 lbs a week). Keep the faith, it will happen!

  13. The Bullet is a great product, but wears out pretty quickly. The Ninja is more expensive for a reason. It does everything. The Ninja's single serving cup takes about a minute to clean. You can decide if that's a hassle. I don't know one person that traded the Ninja for a Bullet.
