  1. My doctor orders for everybody. The shots were delivered 3wks before I was even approved. They started them in the hospital the morning of surgery. One shot per day for 20 days

Wow! Yeah I didn't go through that... and actually glad. I can't imagine giving myself a shot every day for 20 days. Every doctor is definitely different

  2. I never had shots... while in the hospital they gave me blood thinners. But even those were just shots in the arm. Maybe it depends on your blood work when you leave or how much you're moving around... personally I walked a lot after surgery. I'm talking mere hrs after surgery I wanted to get up and walk (it helped with the gas pain). But every doctor and what they prescribe is different.

  3. How's your blood pressure. Mine after a hot bath a couple of weeks ago was like 76/45. Pcp said just be careful and try to take a cooler bath.

I never thought about low blood pressure... hmmm. My blood pressure was always good even as a bigger girl, so I didn't think about it being low. Thanks for the heads up!

  4. I'm 5 months out I get it if I get up to fast from sitting mostly in the morning .. I've notice it's gotten better plus I take my time Getting up

Thanks Ebonisekim. I asked this same question on another page and realized I haven't been taking my Iron and that could be the cause. I was never good about taking it pre-op, but since the surgery limits what/how much I eat, my body could really be low on Iron now.

  5. I have heard that when people need to come off or down on some of their meds (especially BP) they are dizzy. Could that be it? or possibly a Vitamin drop' date=' maybe Iron or B12?

    Just a thought....hope you feel better.[/quote']

Well I'm not on any medication, except for iron... Which, I just realized, I have been slacking on taking. I'm gonna get on top of that and see if it changes anything. Thank you!

  6. Has anyone else experienced dizziness after their surgery? I had surgery in January of this year and for about the past week and half I've been experiencing dizzy spells. They happen daily sometimes multiple times a day. Anyone else have this problem? If so was there something wrong?

  7. I can concur with Miistamunk. It is a great decision and though you ladies may fear Hair loss it's a tiny price to pay for a healthier body and more confidence. I am losing some hair, and I'm natural. It did freak me out a bit to see my hair shed like it was but its starting to stop and luckily I had a nice full hair to begin with. So though it's a little thinner it's still a nice length and I'm grateful it started easing up before I really started to panic, lol. I was sleeved 1/8/13 @ 335 lbs. Today I'm 270 so that's 65 lbs in 5 months. It could've been more but I let my relocation mess up my exercise and eating habits. Going all day not eating (easy to do post sleeve), not leaving time to exercise. But do it! Don't delay the best decision of your lives. It's completely worth it. Good luck to you all and God bless!

  8. aww/.. im soo sorry to hear that you are a little down today' date=' but it will get better.. have you tried taking Biotin? that works really well.. ( its for healthy hair and nails)..

i just was sleeved on may 6, 2013 and i am a little concerned about my hair as well.. ( so far so good)

i hear the most important thing that you can do is concerntrate on your protien intake.. it helps alot...

i hope tomorrow and the days ahead you will feel a little bit better ok...

    praying for your strength...

    sharon,,,

    sha[/quote']

Thanks Sharon! And yes I take Biotin daily. I think that's part of my issue. I've done everything, I've been taking my Vitamins including biotin since before my surgery and though I have had a few moments where my Protein didn't quite make it, for the most part I get my Protein in. But I appreciate your prayers and kind words :-)!

  9. I guess my words aren't much of a "pick me up' date='" sorry! I just wanted you to know you are not alone.[/quote']

Lol! It's ok, you did give me a little chuckle though... But we are similar in that area. Everyone would always ask what I do to my hair to keep it so healthy and full. But anyway, I'm hoping it stops soon. And though I knew of the possibility of my hair coming out, it's just so drastic. But thank you!

And to Serenity1959 thank you for your encouragement! I appreciate it. I'm trying not to get stuck here and look at the good instead of dwelling on my hair. Or lack there of...

  10. So I'm a little down today. And trying really hard not to get depressed. I had my surgery 4 months ago, January 8th to be specific. And for the past month my hair has been consistently falling out. I've always had a head full of hair, thick, curly nice length hair! As I washed and blow dried my hair my edges have completely thinned, my hair is not as thick and I'm seeing bald areas in spaces. I'm really regretting my surgery at this point. I wanted to lose weight and I'm noticing great results. But I don't want to see those results at the expense of my hair... I've never been a weave/wig girl, unless it was braided. I'm just fearful that I'm gonna be bald by the time this whole ordeal is over. Some one please speak some hope and positivity over me...

  11. Are there any African American sleevers with PCOS in this thread also? I hope to be sleeved in May and I have PCOS. I know its a common fact that African American women with PCOS lose slower than out Caucasian counterparts so I will love to hear about your journey and what I should expect regarding weight loss

Hey wannabehealthy2, I was sleeved on 1/8/13 and have PCOS. I do believe I'm losing a little slower than others. Since my surgery I've lost about 45-50 lbs but my inches are more. My clothes are falling of faster than the scale moves. So I'm grateful still. The symptoms of PCOS are becoming less and less. My cycles are getting more regular, hair in areas it shouldn't be on a woman is getting less and less, my skin is clearing up. So all around an awesome experience. I try not to measure my success against others for two reasons. 1) They're not me and everyone's different and 2) my weight is dropping more consistently than ever before. Plus I'm hoping with my weight dropping a little slower I won't have as many issues with my skin ;-). Hoping at least! But good luck lady and hopefully all goes well for you.

  12. but also if you have any issue with emotional eating...I haven't had the surgery yet' date=' but saw a difference when I started taking it.[/quote']

Emotional eating is not an issue since the surgery. Also weight loss pills are a no-no since then. And carbs are next to none only potatoes and Soup. Don't get me wrong... my stomach is going down, I'm just noticing other areas moving a little faster than my stomach.

  13. So, I'm 4 weeks post op, started walking this week and doing some arm exercises/lifting to tone arms. But, my stomach is still tender from the surgery and I can't do anything that requires a lot of tightening of the abs. I've always been heavier on the bottom than top, so I don't want all of my boobs, and some of my hips to go before the belly, lol! What did you do?

  14. thanks everyone i really appreciate all your kind words. i actually got released today so now i am home. no more I.V. also they didn't prescribe me any heparin or Lovenox. i thought that was weird. i thought we all need it to prevent clots?!?!? all they gave me was oxycodone for pain and Omeprazole to prevent stomach ulcers. that's all i am doing now. sipping and taking meds. i am also walking a bit and doing my stairs. it's very hard for me to distinguish pain from the surgery and pain from nausea. any tips??

so tomorrow is my 1st full day home from the surgery/hospital. so tomorrow i can start taking all my vitamins' date=' correct?? also can i start making my own Protein shakes at home? 25grams of Protein with Water?? also can i have SF popsicles tomorrow??? thanks again.[/quote']

Vitamins yes, SF popsicles yes. Protein Shakes, not sure. My Dr. Required a full week clear liquids before starting full liquids. Did your Dr. send you home with a list of to dos/not to dos? I was given a week by week plan to follow from mine. As far as food your surgeon's plan would have more directions as each of us seems to have different instructions depending on the Dr.

  15. Congrats on your surgery!!! And yes it all can be overwhelming... as far as the pain and nausea, the nausea will subside quickly. It's either because of the anesthesia or the gas. I actually dry heaved the day after surgery, talk about being in pain!!! But I don't do well on anesthesia. The pain will subside with time. I'm 3 weeks out and still experiencing some abdominal pain but everyday gets better :-).

And follow your doc's instructions in regards to what to eat. If they allow full liquids right away go for it! If not stick to Clear Liquids.

And yes your urine will be dark for a few days. Due to the medicine, and lack of fluids but don't be too alarmed about it. It'll all get better with time and don't push too hard. Congrats!! You're well on your way!

  16. Hi. I am new. I am three months in toward my 6 month required pre-op appointments. I have been looking forward to this board helping by not only providing information' date=' but support. However, I am really surprised by all the nasty comments. Is this how it always is? I have seen it on several other topics as well. Now I am sure that some people are grumpy without food, but I am just so blown away at some of the responses from people. It does not make me feel encouraged if I have a question in the future.[/quote']

Not every board, nor everyone on here rude. This particular post just stirred some things up and is causing a divide between many people here. I joined right before I had my surgery and have had no issues with the responses from anyone. So don't let this forum deter you from joining in on any others. This is just a weird occurrence that no one here has the answers to and we all deal with uncertainties/questions differently. You're just seeing the various personalities here.
