    No drain after surgery

It gets reabsorbed into the body. I had no drains and no problems.

    Falling back into old habits

And the award for 'didn't read the original post properly goes to ... ' OP - all is not lost. Have you heard of the five day restart fast a lot of people try? Don't allow yourself to fall ino the negative thinking trap that may sabotage your hard work. Chin up, you've got this x

    Insomnia

Your body stays alert for any possible food source when you're starving.
  5. Surgery April 17th. Down from 372lbs to 298lbs. 74lbs in two months. Very happy!

    bread hurts my sleeve

White bread in particular swells up in your stomach. Try toasted wholemeal instead.

Are you going to the hospital alone?

When I was coming round from the anaesthetic and in and out of consciousness, my husband held my hand. The human contact was the most comforting sensation I have ever felt.

    Capacity and healing

It's also to do with your stomach's nerves being severed during surgery. The resulting numbness can temporarily disguise how full you are.
  11. I went in with paper knickers on and came out 'sans'. I'd love to know who removed them, when and why. My husband says the surgeon probably has a collection of them!

    Water?

The surface tension of plain water is high, which can be difficult for your stomach to manage. Putting a few drops of squash, or fruit juice or crystal light etc. reduces the surface tension and makes it easier to stomach.

    Is this normal? Help!

The sore throat could also be due to the bougie that was put down your throat. It sounds like your pain is not being managed at the moment - you should get back on to your doctor asap.
  14. You'll still be losing water weight from the IV fluids you got in hospital. Some people find themselves 10lbs+ heavier post surgery. It will come off very quickly, don't worry

    Eathibg slower and smaller bites

Use a teaspoon to eat. Really chew and savour the taste of the food. As the previous poster said, post surgery you will have an in-built inability to eat too much or too quickly. Don't worry about it.
  16. Tom Conti in Shirley Valentine calls them 'lines of life'. I like that.

    Chewable vitamins forever?

My surgeon said normal vitamin tablets are okay after 3 weeks. I like my chewy ones -they're strawberry flavour and the only things I get to chew during this puree stage!

    "I'm praying for you!"

The best response to an unwanted 'I'll pray for you' is 'Thanks, I'll think for you!'

    Please help

I am on my third day post-op. Not for a second do I want to go back to pre- or no-op! This was my choice, the right choice and now I am getting on with doing what needs to be done. Onwards to a happier, healthier life! You will be fine. If you've made the decision and you're commited to making the lifestyle changes then enjoy the ride - it'll be a blast

    Weight lifting and swimming

  21. I saw a documentary about surgery and the surgeon said the mask was for their protection, not ours. Blood spray etc. is more likely to enter their mouth than nose.
