Any one who has NOT lost hair?

I've heard the hair loss is from a lack of omega 3's and iron. biotin helps you synthesize these but if you're not getting enough in the first place biotin will be a waste of dosh. better to get some good quality salmon oil and liquid iron. Iron is absorbed with vitamin c and food (same with omega oils-do not take on an empty stomach!)

Would U Do It With Bmi Of 38?

I think that was an ignorant statement about the 210 comment that your friend made. I'm sure she didn't mean for it to come across as negatively as it does to me but I really hate when people judge like that. Weight effects us in different ways. I had my surgery at a bmi of 30 and 202 lbs and extremely pleased that i did. I no longer feel hungry 24/7 and I like my small tummy. This has been the easiest diet I've ever done and the weight is flying off me. I used to hit the gym SO hard to lose even the slightest amount and i'd be ravenously hungry all the time. I've done moderate excercise each day (1/2-1 hour walking and i'll get back to skiing in a few weeks here). The pain was minimal and the benefits have been wicked. Just FANTASTIC! I'm so pleased. Why the h did i wait so long-this is my greatest regret. My issues, that your friend may not have thought about while making that statement are infertility, something of which you likely know a little about having PCOS-you're extremely lucky to have kids. I'm 37 and have tried everything under the sun for 2 years and can't get pregnant. My hormones at that weight were totally messed up. I have stage 4 arthritis in my knees. i dont want knee replacements but i'm going to have to get them if i can't get the weight off. My face is clear now, my chin was full of hormonal acne. I've not even lost that much and things are feeling SO much better. Don't be influenced by negative chatter from others. I did this for me, I didn't want to tell anyone anything for the exact reasons that have come through in your message. Other people have a human habit of driving fear into every situation. This is about self improvement and quality of life - in my eyes, there's nothing negative about that. Eye on the prize, never make decisions out of fear, they turn out to be missed opportunities and life mistakes.

    Ketosis breath- funny

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarbliving/a/Is-Your-Low-Carb-Diet-Giving-You-Bad-Breath.htm That pretty much describes it. i use those film mints that just melt on your tongue. They're pretty strong and keep a fresh taste for a while. Ketosis breath is good, just a rather unfortunate sort of signal your burning fat.

    Dry mouth

Hi newgrandma, I have arthritis in my knees right now but my mom has it in her fingers and other joints and my dad has it in his hip and back. He's had a hip replacement and invertebrea drilling before the age of 70. I have no cartilage between my knee cap and leg bone and develop spurs from the impact. Last year I had the spurs smoothed off by my surgeon but my diagnosis is stage 4 chondromalacia and he says I'm too young for knee replacements. I function OK on an anti inflammatory diet, i have salmon oil everyday, no wheat, try to limit alcohol (being sleeved has made it easier lol) and when I do mountain stuff like skiing and hiking I take lots of turmeric. I also ice afterwards. When it's really bad I'll take tylenol arthritis, it seems to work ok but i have to be in tears to take meds. I've seen what over medicating has done to my dad, he started loosing his mind at 65 and now that he's 70 he has officially been diagnosed with Parkinson's. I also think over medicating leads to cancer of the pancreas. Has your surgeon offered to do laproscopy and dremmel off any rough bits/spurs? Where do you have your arthritis? I can tell when I do my Tuesday yoga class that my L hip feels sharp when I do certain motions. I hope I'm not following too closely in my dad's footsteps.
  6. On Friday when I left for SanDeigo I weighed in at 202 lbs. I did a serious day of walking/shopping and had 3 protein shakes with 5 litres of water. After midnight I didn't eat anything, had the operation saturday at about 2pm ate nothing that day except for IV saline. Next day I had 2 popsicles, the first half of the first one I barfed up. Monday I had a bowl of broth from the hotel and added a little bit of protein powder to it. The next day, protein in the am, soup at 7pm. Today I jump on the scale and I'm 203 lbs. I know, I know the scale is discouraging but COME ON! I've haven't even had 500 calories for 3+ days and I'm up a lb? Anyone else have this after surgery? It's just a little depressing.

    Sleeping issues

(from Wiki) Low and high Protein intake inhibit magnesium absorption. Magnesium calms your nerves by coating the receptors. It reduces pms, it's important for a healthy nervous system, cellular energy, hormone regulation and the relaxation and activation of muscle tissue and will prevent you from being restless throughout the night. When you lose weght you mess with hormones (releasing them when you burn fat), you increase cellular energy, gain muscle tissue if you're being active...no wonder why you're having issues. I expect the same very soon. Three quarters of all Americans eat a diet that is deficient in magnesium, according to a report published by the World Health Organization. Try it out, and I wish you speedy sweet dreams

    A Family Drama - Help!

Is there a way you could convince her to get her tubes tied? Have you asked her, as incredulous as it may seem, if she wanted this pregnancy and if not, why not shut down that avenue for more future accidents. I don't know what to say other than take it one day at a time. You're crossed with the well being of the little ones and protecting your self and living the life you want to live. I say take it one day at a time, try not to react and LOTS of walks on the beach, I'm so sososososososo jealous of you with the beach right there. I'm totally land locked in a cold miserable town (mind you there's excellent employment here) but it would fill my heart with happiness to have a walk on the beach whenever I felt like it. Hugs, I'm sorry you're in such a tough situation.
  9. They're also a great source of omega 3's, we lose our hair loosing weight this fast because we don't get enough omegas with our diet restrictions. Folic acid + omega 3's = great hair. Botin helps you digest omega's but if' we're not getting enough it's a waste of money. Better to get some salmon oil, chia seeds + folic acid. Just make sure you only take the salmon oil after a meal and yes, it'll help things run smoothly too (as well as being one of the best anti-inflammatories on the market).

    Homemade Veggie soup

Ohhh, you guys are inspiring me. I don't think I've ever had so much sodium in my life and it feels like I can't even pee! Some home made veggie soup would be so much better. I'm so bloated today I couldn't get my knee high boots on. I even have the low sodium broth, it's just that between it and the protein powder there's still way more than I normally consume. I was even up a pound over my pre op weight yesterday. today i have a headache and it's either the sorbitol sweetener or the sodium (rolling eyes).

    Dry mouth

Grandma was bang on with ketosis. Google it, many people are fearful of it but truthfully it's the best body fat burning condition, the fat just melts off without carbs. As soon as you add carbs you may get more headachey, you won't burn fat as much and you'll become more hungry. Beides all that Ketosis is a high protein diet, it can give you dry mouth and musty apple breath. The power aid may not agree with you because the stuff we're on already has so much sodium, you need to try to flush that from your system, it will cause you more dry mouth. You're idea is great for the humidifier and try lemon or lime in water. Lemon naturally inspires the glands under your tongue to produce saliva. Just sip, it'll also help flush the high sodium that's in the broth, soup and protein powder so you're not so dry in the mouth. It's pretty simply hopefully you don't have to go to much work to do this, I'm tired too...it was a helllishly long day (first day back to work after sugery on Saturday).

Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!

Well, I asked the hubbie what he thought and he just said (he's a phd chemist) that alcohol is a pretty strong acid and will hinder the healing of the cut down your stomach. We both think you'll be fine though. So if alcohol is an acid, so is coffee which I was going to have one tomorrow. Now I'm kind of thinking I should just wait a little. Everyone keeps mentioning liver but it's the gallbladder that we lose from losing too much weight too fast, it can't cope with all of the fats (or something-I don't know the processes involved). Since alcohol is fat soluable, I'd think that it will also be hard on our gall bladders while we loose weight. I know I'll have something every now and then during this process but I don't want to loose my gallbladder. That makes for a permanent careful diet from what my buddie at work told me, he can't have coffee etc and not supposed to drink (poopy!) BTW, to whomever said alcohol is a stimulant, it's a depressant (and not good to have if you're already clinically depressed) but you're right, it interacts with lots of meds.I hope people just get information from this discussion, it's too bad so many are so heated up.
  13. Hi guys, thanks for the reassurance. I did stooopidly look at the scale this morning and lost a pound. Small yeay! But then I tried to get my knee high boots on and my legs are so thick I must be retaining a tonne of water. I think all of this new stuff I'm having has SO much sodium in it, it's terrible. But I'm trying to drink alot of water to flush it all through. Walked for 45 min today too.

    Hungry?

I would guess that apple sauce, soup, yoghurt have at least 50% carb content? Carbs will make you hungry. Can you try packing in more protein somehow? Jello protein, broth with lots of protein (carb and calorie content is small), eggs are GREAT, have 2! I got the protein cheese sauce from unjury and plan on having eggs, smoked salmon + cheese sauce for breaky on weekends. Or poached fish with cheese sauce over it. Keep the protein and water high and carbs low, it's the carbs that increase your appetite. Good luck tata.

    Chips?

If you're craving salt there are individual chip size seaweed chips, 30 cal /pack (I think there's ~ 15). They sell the snack packs by the box at costco or on amazon. (0 carbs, 1g protein) http://lowcalsocal.b...-vs-potato.html nutritional data here: http://www.myfitness...calories/jayone

    Time off from work?

I was told I could go straight back to work after 3 days. I work as a graphic designer though, no major physical stuff. From what I've heard, people are feeling well in just a few days. I'm happy to take more time off if necessary, hopefully I won't be feeling sick thoough (I like my job).

    Glue on your cuts...

Are these glued and stiched or just glued wounds? I was wondering if glue left less scar, maybe that's why they use it alone. Has anyone had their scars heal up so well they can't tell they had surgery? I'd love to see one/two years out scars. Just wondering if when I get that slim again if I could ever wear a bikini again
