Special Occasions
You may not want a Champagne ever again. Many people have a very difficult time with fizzy drinks, and bubbly is certianly fizzy! You might discover that your rituals don't need changing at all. Or you mnight discover that they change and evolve on their own without intervention on your part.

Medicine question - need help
An occasional NSAID (OTC pain killer) is not going to hurt anything. Key word being "occasional." It is vitally important that you have a glass of something with this to wash it out of your pouch.

Anyone under a super stressful long term situation
Well, there is long term stress, and there is long term stress. Selling a house is one of those top of the chart stressors. Sorry about your stress. I do know that when Im stressed I'm more restricted than when I'm not. Perhaps you should get an unfill until this is over and settled?

Please--need Kick In The #@*!!!
Uhm, how is eating a sandwich like a normal person "out of control" and/or eating like a pig??? That is about what a normal person eats. Normal being someone your size. You age a donut? OH MY GAWD! SEND IN THE MARINES!!!! TIME FOR AN INTERVENTION!!!!! (sirens going off in the distance, spot lights searting the night skies.... ) Calm down Estella! Has it occured to you that perhaps you body NEEDS extra nutrishion right now??? Extras nutrition means extra calories. Sure, not a gazillion calories, but have you looked at how many calories the subway sandwich has? Completely reasonable. You didn't go out and eat a double pepperoini large pizza. You had a subway sandwich. You ate ONE donut, not A DOZEN. Calm down, breathe. Here, use this paper bag because I'm afraid you are going to start hyperventilating. It's OKAY.

Your hobbit name?
It's your name, so I guess you pronouce it any damn way you feel like it. I mean, really, who's going to argue? Okay, my sister-in-law had a teacher tell her that her name was spelled wrong, and that her name wasn't really Laurie. The teacher sent her home in tears.

raging anger and completly discouraged, who me?
I didn't throw a single shoe. I threw both of my shoes after kicking the building. Then I stomped around -- like 8 blocks worth of stomping. I got to the freeway and decided I couldn't stomp home, so I stomped the 4 blocks back. Then I pounded on the dashboard... not the most spectacular temper tantrum I've ever had, but ... at least there was no property damage this time. Oh, when I throw a temper tantrum, I do it right. DH handled it like a champ though. He didn't try to "do" anything to calm me down. It was the first temper tantrum he's ever seen me have.

raging anger and completly discouraged, who me?
I initally had great loss, I was going like gang busters. I lost 35 pounds by almost the 3 month. Yes, 10 or 15 pounds were water weight because I had a sever edema problem. Yes no more edema was one of my first NSVS. But whee! the weight was coming off! Then my weight loss stopped. I gained about 5 pounds before my first fill. After my first fill last month I lost 1 pound. This month I lost 1 pound. 2 months, 2 pounds. At the support meeting this week, I had my official weigh-in. 1 pound down since last month. I was so angry and pissed off and discouraged, words fail to express my disapointment. I have attempted to be the model bandster. I feel like I had good restriction, and my food has been ... small. My calories have been in the zone. But no loss. 2 months and 2 pounds. So angry. So many tears. Yes, I have had so many NSV I've thought about starting a thread dedicated to all my NSV. Yes, this weekend I actually bought a LARGE jacket, not a XXL jacket. But this NSV was completely obliteraged by my non-loss. Stupid scale. Failure me. 5 months ago They were considering putting me on oxygen therapy. Again. Today I don't even cary a puffer with me, and I run for the bus without a second thought. Okay, my second thought is "I wonder what these people think of big fat me running," and my thrid thought is "don't get in my way!" I chased my sweet 6' tall baby through a parking lot this weekend, him trying his best to not get caught, me doing my dardest to catch him. We ran around for about 2 minutes. Yeah, not long, but I was running to catch him. Not even out of breath, except for maybe the laughter. But the scale hasn't moved in 2 months and I feel like a failure. I was so angry I actually had a temper tantrum. I was so upset I almost quit everything related to the band. I was so upset to the point that I almost came here a deleted every one of my posts. All of them. I felt like a lier, like what could I possibly have to contribute because I am not loosing. But I waited. I know better to act in the heat of my anger. Of course, my wonderful Spudboy and DH have tried to put things into perspective for me. They have noticed my size change. They have noticed my increased energy and my increased spirits. They keep pointing out that I've been really sick for so long, and that my body is probably rebuiling the muscle that I've lost. This summer, I have had on going health issues that are not related to the band. I've had on going GYN issues, including a ruptured overian cyst. Talk about painful! I never passed out from the pain from tthat, but man I was close. I went through almost an entire bottle of phenegren in two weeks because of the pain induced nausia. Anyway, I spent 2 months on various drugs that normally cause weight gain, but I maintained. I suppose that is an NSV, but again, the NSV is obliterated by the scale. I know the scale lies. I've known that it lies for at least decade, but yet I still listen to what it says. I am so very discouraged. I have a fill appointment schedule so I have a fill before I go off to Idaho. The next opportunity I have for a fill will be November. Why can't I take my own advice? Why can't I be kind to myself? Stupid scale.

So Depressed...No restriction...No Weight Loss
first off, the weight may not just "fall off." You may be one of the slow ones. Just make sure you track your NSVs, they will really help. Second, man, that sux about your port. Sorry I can't offer any specific advice other than never let people dig around in you with a needle. YIKES! Sorry! Flower just had a port revision, you might PM her and find out some specificis.

<3 Kare Bear, before I had the band, I wasn't sure I would last the year, let alone time to get to goal. Isn't being old better than the alternative? Like death?

I gained about 10 pounds between the time I had my sugeon consult and the surgery. I was on so much steroids just to keep me breathing. Dr. Montgomery just patted my arm and said something like "we we'd better get you patched up right away so you start feeling better." No recriminations about gaining. No scolding. Just sympathy and understanding. The purpose of losing the weight is so that there is room inside to work. The first bit of weight you lose comes off your liver, which is located right next to your stomache. It's not a test of your resolve. It's not a test of character or motivation. They would like you to loose weight, and strongly recommend that you do.

Sex & the Band....
You can play as soon as you don't hurt any more, so basically, you can play as soon as you want to. And considering where the band is physically, uhm, if he's capable of doing anything that could disturb it... uhm, sell tickets? Of course, I believe he would pass out from lack of blood flow, you know given the hydrolics of the mechanics...

Ok let's be realistic...doesn't add up
Mercedes honey, you will be okay. You won't actually starve in the next week or so.

fill and being stuck
well, obviously, chew to goo everything. Is absolutely everything getting stuck? If this is the case, you might need a slight unfill. Even a .25CC unfill can make a big difference. What food lube are you using? What foods ae you eating? Do you have trouble with mushy foods too? Cheers!

Hey Pam, I think the actual procedure took about 45 minutes. I stayed overnight in hospital, but days before my procedure I had to be rushed to the ER for asthma. Again. My asthma was litterally killing me. They were talking about putting me on oxygen. Again. DH was banded two years ago, he was the highest BMI NWWLS had ever banded. But then again, at a BMI of 81 ... 600 pounds... He's lost about 200 pounds but still hasn't broken the 400 barrier. But this weekend he spent all weekend re-building a friend's deck out at Long Beach. He is Mr. Energy these days. I think he just needs time where he is before he can go forward. Our insurance covered everything, so I can't give you any information there. Let's see, I haven't lost a huge amount of weight. Not yet. But, I feel better than I have in years. YEARS. If I'm late for the bus I will run for it. Yes, that's right RUN FOR THE BUS. I don't even cary an asthma inhaler with me anymore. I'm not even 5 months out, and you wouldn't even know I had asthma. In Early March I couldn't walk a block without needing to rest, now I'm running for the bus without thinking about it. I bought a new jacket this weekend -- a LARGE, not a XXL jacket. The downside? I see how fast other people are losing and I am frustrated that I'm not losing at the same rate. But I've had two other surgerys they haven't had... female stuff. So, instead of gaining weight on the meds they put me on, I maintained. That is the downside.

Ouch!
Welcome to the Banded Gentry!

Ok let's be realistic...doesn't add up
Uhm, it shounds like your doc does lots of RNY. We don't "adapt" because we are adjustable. We don't have a time frame. RNY folks do.

Sister In Law
Wait, he filled the band WHEN he placed it????? No wonder she had problems! She was already filled! How much did he put in it??? Plenty of folks have restriction right off the bat, and AFIK, there is no way to determine who will have initial restriction and who won't. I sure hope he pulled out all the fill!

pictures in my mind
Get a pix of you in a group of other people. As a general rule I don't think compairing ourselves against others is a good idea, but it really is important sometimes. This is why I think it is so important to change our self image. Changing the picture in our mind is the only way I can think of to change it. it is insidious and I don't know how to fix it. I only have ideas.
