    Getting around after surgery

Honestly, I couldn't have done it. I'm usually so tough and thought I would be back at work in a few days, but there was no way. I had my sleeve on December 19, and I'm not going back until January 14. There were days I was just SO fatigued, and taking a shower required me to rest for 2 hours, lol. I did have a post op infection, which I'm sure contributed to this, but it's about healed now. Today is the first day I've felt pretty good since my surgery. I know lots of people do go back to work in a few days, and I hope you can be one of them, but it doesn't hurt to consider plan B in case it doesn't work out that way. Good luck!

    Time off after VSG

I had my surgery 12/19, and I'm going back 1/14. I would have probably gone back 1/7, but I got a post op infection, so I want to wait for that to heal fully, first.
  4. You will get lots of good information from the seminar. I was planning to have RNY but after the seminar, decided against it. My surgeon has done over 1000 RNY and has had no deaths, and they are a center of excellence. I opted for the sleeve because I didn't want the malapsorption, and I wanted to be able to take NSAIDs again some day. As for the surgery, it is a major surgery, so expect that type of recovery. I needed and took plenty of morphine in the hospital, used my vicodin at home for a couple of days, but overall I thought it was not that bad. I did get a post op infection in one of my incisions, but it's about healed now. The office told me some people have the surgery on a Wednesday and go back to work on the following Monday, but I'm going to be off about 3 1/2 weeks. I've been able to move around the house, went visiting for all the holidays, and I am walking 1-2 miles daily. All in all, not too bad!

    Blue Care Network Mi

I have BCBS of Michigan. My BMI was high enough (sadly) that I didn't need to have 6 months of documented weight loss instruction/attempts. I called them and they sent me a letter about the rules. From the first seminar I went to till day of surgery was about 2 1/2 months. It took that long to get all my preop visits, mammogram, pap test, and other pre-op testing done. I had my surgery in Toledo on December 19.

    Any Other Dec 19th Sleevers?

Good to hear from people with the same surgery date! My post op is progressing....I had an infection in one of my incisions, so that's been a bit of a drag, though it's healing. I consider it a minor complication, though I think it did make me more fatigued. Things are moving along better now I have one more day, then I can add eggs and cottage chesse to my diet. I've been on full liquids since December 5....it's getting a little old, lol! Everyone else healing and moving?

Hi Everyone, I'm from Newport Michigan (little village in Monroe). I had my sleeve on December 19 at Toledo Hospital in Toledo Ohio by Dr. Patrick White. Nice to see so many from MI here!

    freezing ?

I'm freezing, too! I haven't been this cold since the 80s when I weighed 135 pounds (for 5 minutes, lol)! I think it's related to surgery, healing, and mostly weight loss...we are burning fat for fuel. Nothing scientific there, just my thoughts.
  9. Hi, Congratulations on the 'no cheating', I know it's not easy! I was sleeved on the 19th too, and I'm also having difficulty getting protien shakes down. I can start with eggs, cottage cheese on the 5th, and I'm really looking forward to a way to get some protien not in a shake! I don't have any suggestions for your weight loss, but I'd check with my surgeon or nurse...maybe they have seen this and have some ideas. Either way, we are in it for the long haul, and while a quick loss can be rewarding, eventually it HAS to come off if we continue to eat fewer calories, right? Keep up the good work! Teri

    Any Other Dec 19th Sleevers?

Hi, I'm from Michigan. I had my surgery on December 19, too. How is everyone doing?
  12. I know how you feel. I absolutely had my mind made up before surgery....then the day after surgery, it hit me! I did have a sense of "OMG, what have I done? This is permanent". Since then I just work on getting through a day at a time. I feel certain it will get easier once we can eat a more normal diet, but it has been difficult through the holidays. I just keep telling myself I got a jump on my annual New Year's resolution to lose weight - and I'm thinking I might actually achieve it!!
