Does anyone find you can eat more
MichiganChic replied to elisa's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I also find the same thing. Some days I can eat more, then others I feel so much more restriction. Some days I'm hungrier than others, too. -

6 weeks post-op. Not losing ANY weight. :(
MichiganChic replied to nikkimyers1127's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you lost 35 pounds so quickly, it probably is your body adjusting, as the others said. I think a body can only turn loose of weight so fast. 35 pounds divided by 6 weeks is 5-6 pounds per week, when you average it over the course of your post op period. I think you are doing great!! I lost 25 pounds the first month then almost 18 the second, but then it took me at least 6 weeks to lose about 8. Incidentally, I was very constipated during that time, too. I really so understand the frustration, especially when it seems you might be able to lose quickly! However, during that period of slow loss, I learned a really important lesson - that I couldn't give up! Before the surgery, if weight loss went too slow, I would just gradually increase my eating until I was no longer dieting. Now I know that I just have to wait it out, keep following the program, and the weight will come off. The longer I'm out from surgery, the more I am learning about my new way of life. Just keep following the program, and I think you'll see, it WILL come off! Good luck, and keep us posted! -
Try not to worry - this is almost universal. The surgery makes you hang on to water. I was up about 10 pounds right after surgery, then lost a few, then one week I lost 10....maybe 2-3 weeks post op. It's only been a few days, and it will come off.

Percentage of excess weight lost
MichiganChic replied to timbluejim's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am not at or near goal, but I read in the information my surgeon gave me that insurance companies consider WLS successful if you lose more than 50% of excess weight. His personal patient stats are about 80%. I really hope/intend to reach and maintain 100%, and since reading these boards, I know it is certainly possible! -
Fitbit / Bodybugg etc users ... what is your deficit
MichiganChic replied to zoekids's topic in Fitness & Exercise
My calorie deficit is about 1300 per day, give or take a few. I have also found there is not a direct correlation between intake/output/weight loss. Sometimes I lose more, sometimes less. I think if it were as simple as the 3500 calories=1 pound, the medical community would be a lot closer to actually curing obesity. I think so much more goes into play, such as how much you have lost, how much you have to lose, and individual metabolism, general health, stress levels, etc. (sorry, no studies to back that up, just my personal observations ) I wonder if at some point in the future you might have a bigger drop - I notice that sometimes my body seems to try to "catch up". Having said that, congratulations to you for your steady weight loss! Keep up the good work! -
Any okay tasting protein shakes?
MichiganChic replied to Determined_Me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Premier chocolate for me, too. I also have the vanilla sometimes, but I think it has a slight coconut oil flavor...or something I can't identify. Even with that, they aren't bad. I have a shake every day for breakfast - quick, easy, almost half of the day's protein! -
Am i the only one?
MichiganChic replied to AceyKay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone. I know I must look different because others notice, and I've dropped three sizes (at least), but when I look in the mirror, I don't see much of a difference. For me, some of it is that I could never get used to myself at that super high weight, even though I was sure there for a long time! I wonder if in my mind's eye, I saw a somewhat slimmer person - similar to where I am now - what is considered just obese, instead of morbidly obese! Must be a coping mechanism, lol. Who knows!? Anyway, I see the scale moving, measurements shrinking, and the pile of clothes that are too big growing, but I'm still shocked when I get the realization that it's actually true - I am smaller! Gotta admit - it's always a pleasant surprise. Enjoy your success. -

Wow!! What an accomplishment! Thanks for sharing -
Hi Sannah, Been watching your story every day to watch how you progress, and I'm in wonder and awe of your strength! I can't imagine how you must feel...it does make you wonder how much we can take, but it also shows your incredible resiliance! You should feel so proud of your progress and ability to hold it together through this! I'm so glad your leak is healed, your cardiac status is improved, and you are on the road to wellness. I don't know what I would do about those stones, either, but my guess is that it will become apparent to you as time progresses. Then you'll be able to make a decision you are comfortable with. I hadn't heard of a health coach either, but what a great idea! Having someone help you understand what is happening and the implications of your decisions could really help provide some peace of mind. Wishing you a speedy recovery - you are almost there! And you are SO going to love it

6 Months out 107 Pounds down - Pic Attached :)
MichiganChic replied to Carly4HandinSD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Great job, you look wonderful! You are an inspiration! -
I was cleared to take it at about 6 weeks. I take it almost daily, no issues thus far. It's one of the reasons I chose the sleeve - because I could take NSAIDS. Still - I'd consult your physician first.

All of my December sleevers...
MichiganChic replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sadlers,I have to agree! I feel like as long as we do all the things we are supposed to, we really don't have a lot of control over how fast we lose. I do think we could do things to slow weight loss down by grazing, overeating, not exercising, etc, but once you do everything right, it's out of our hands. Some people will just lose slower than others, and some people will go through periods of stall or slow loss then go through periods of faster loss - for no apparent reason. Once I realized I can only do so much, I stopped feeling so pressured. I am grateful for every pound lost, and grateful for every day I am able to stay in control of my diet and exercise! And of course, I also dare to dream - can't blame a girl for that! -
Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?
MichiganChic replied to sars's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit 3 months yesterday, down 62 pounds (10 before surgery) and I'm so shocked. Haven't seen this weight in years....and that voice in the back of my head reminds me of how far I have to go! I'm happy with my progress, and just trying to take it a day at a time and do the right things. Follow the program, exercise, etc. I lost a lot at first, then it slowed for about 6 weeks (took me that long to lose about 8 pounds) but now seems to be a little more steady - about 2 pounds a week. I just keep hoping that I am able to imprint a lifestyle change that is permanent, and that my weight loss continues! As Rockstar noted, we are all different - thanks to all for sharing! -
All of my December sleevers...
MichiganChic replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My three month anniversary was yesterday, down 62 pounds! Can't believe it! I had a really slow loss for about 6 weeks, but it seems to be a little more steady now. I'm holding my breath every day, for fear the sleeve will "quit working" even though I know it's me doing the work. But seriously, I am sort of shocked every time I get on the scale and see a loss! So happy I did this! -
I am anxious to see how this works out for me. I make it my JOB to be pleasant, put together (mentally and physically), and outgoing, and people always comment on my "beautiful smile" or that I'm always smiling. I've been heavy most of my adult life, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I do know that people I don't know have treated me in a a dismissive way, particularly when my kids were younger and I was in groups of new people. I have a feeling the OP is correct, and I think obesity is the last acceptable prejudice in this country. I'm anxious to see if my "beautiful smile" gets me a lot further when I'm thin than it does now....because I think it will. I'd be interested to hear what the vets might have to say about their experience. Anyone?

doc wants me to have bypass
MichiganChic replied to kmb1983's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doc said I was a candidate for either, but would likely have better results with RNY, at least statistically. At first, I was swayed by that, not wanting to have surgery and poor results. But as I thought about it, I just couldn't get comfortable with the idea, and I decided it just was not a good option for me. I don't like the malabsorption, and also that you can never take NSAIDS again. So far, it was a good choice for me. -

question about bowels.
MichiganChic replied to ladya345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, you do hear lots more about constipation, but plenty of people do have the opposite. I had it for about the first 4 weeks - I was afraid it was permanent! I couldn't pin it on any one thing, but thought I might be lactose intolerant or something, but it spontaneously resolved on it's own. I think for most people it does. Hang in there, it will get better! -
So so sorry you are going through this. You sound like me - I talk to my mother every chance I get, so I understand how close you are. What a wonderful gift you have given her - peace of mind that you will take care of yourself and you are a healthy weight. So many of us are stress eaters, and I think it's so positive that you recognize the potential impact. Prayers for you and your family.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
MichiganChic replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, just checking in! Good to see more people joining. I'm about 3 months post op, and learning to live quite well with the sleeve. My weight loss is coming along OK, and I'm finding periods of slow loss, then will drop a few pounds at once. This is a stall week, so it's a little aggravating, lol. I know for sure it's better than before because the sleeve forces me to stick with it, something I just couldn't do before. I'm happy the weekend is here, Wish I could go square dancing, or any kind of dancing - sounds fun!! However, will be super busy and looking forward to it! Teri -
That's the exact same pattern I had, including the diarrhea. Enjoy the pound a day weight loss while it lasts.....mine slowed way down after the first month, and even more after month 2. Congratulations on your surgery, sounds like you are right on track!
