    Hair

Mine was already short and a little thin. It might be a little longer than it was before surgery, but a different style. It's a short angled bob. Funny thing is, I get a compliment (or more) a day on my hair! I think having lost 60 pounds, people know I look better, maybe they don't know exactly why, so they say they like my hair, lol. I'm about 3.5 months post op, and I've noticed it seems to be coming out faster. I have been taking biotin since before surgery, and I started using Nioxin about a month ago which actually seems to have helped. However, I agree with an above poster - there's not really much you can do to stop it, but I'm going to try anyway.

    Today, i kissed myself! :$

What a great story, thank you for sharing. I have not had a moment like that, but more of a gradual change. One thing I do understand without question is self loathing. I'm happy for you! (and your husband sounds like a keeper )

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Glad to hear you are doing well. I had the same thing with Christmas, my surgery was the 19th. It's all a blur now, lol. I cooked for two days getting ready for easter, all so I could eat 2 oz of it, haha. I confess, I did eat a little more than 2 oz Best thing is, it wasn't that much more, and today right back on track. Love it!
  4. Yep, I agree, and please don't blame yourself. Sometimes it doesn't work out they way we expect...and not all sleeves are created equal. I wish people could remember that! Some people have tremendous restriction, and others, not so much. Medicine is an art as much as a science, and surgery is certainly dependent on many factors such as the skill of the surgeon and how the body responds to it. One thing to consider is your height. You probably do need more food. Even if your stomach is the right diameter, it probably is longer - maybe almost twice as long as some people, which might allow you to eat twice as much food. I am sorry you are going through this. Good luck as you get it figured out - and good thing you didn't leave
  5. Eggs are hard for some people to tolerate after the sleeve - the first few I had did that to me, too, at about 3 weeks. They still are hard to tolerate some days - they feel like a rock in my stomach. I would avoid them for a while. You are still healing, so just take it slow, it will get better.

    Too Much Easter Dinner!

Me too. I totally understand what "slider" foods are now.....they include coconut cream pie and soft little lemon ricotta cookies, lol! Even still, I ate less yesterday than I probably ate most days on a good day before surgery, so I'm not feeling too bad about it. Back on track today, and for me, it's all about living a rich life where I'm allowed to digress once in a while without feeling too much stress from it Hope everyone had a wonderful day!

    6 months since surgery

Congratulations, you look great! Thanks for sharing your success.
  10. I think this is a great question, and one I even asked myself before surgery. Since there is no malabsorption, we don't get the "extra benefit" of decreased calories, even. I think you said it great with "working against your body", because I felt like I was in a fight with mine every day. Even now, over eating is not an issue, but I still feel like my body is fighting back and trying to hang on to the weight. I always had will power, but I would also run out of steam because it took every ounce of energy I had to stay on track and fight that fight. But what I've learned in the 3.5 months since my surgery is that the sleeve augments my will power. Now most of the time, I have no problem folliowing the program because I can only hold so much. And on the rare occassion (yesterday, for example) when I felt a little out of control, I can still only hold so much! So, a combination of physicial restriction with decreased hunger hormones really does make a HUGE difference.

    Freshly sleeved....Livonia MI

Hi JennaG, welcome to the boards, and congratulations on your surgery. I'm also from southeastern Michigan, a litte further south than you. I was sleeved in December, and my life is just about back to normal....though where food is concerned, it's a new normal, and I'm lovng it! It took me a while to feel better, and I'm not one of those people who had tons of energy right off the bat. I'm finding a slow and gradual improvement in my energy levels, and so grateful for that! Hope you are feeling well and adjusting. Tell us your story.

    I got my first...

I had the same thing happen with others telling my story. Only told a handful of people, telling them that I wasn't telling others, and I'm pretty sure ALL of them told other people. I live in a small town, so now you never know who knows....but I'm still sticking to my story about eating less and exercising. It makes me question my judgement about other people, or my judgement in general, thinking people can keep their mouths shut, lol. That facebook thing is over the top, for sure...sorry you are going through that! Now if a newbie on here asks, I always advise tell NO ONE except your significant other unless you are prepared for people to know who you didn't want to know.
  13. Looking good! Congratulations on your success. Bet you feel great, too

You look great, congratulations! That's a huge accomplishment!

    "Get ya hot dog here".....

I had a lean hotdog the other day, I think it was turkey. I didn't really like it....had it with half the bun. Probably would have enjoyed a "bad for you" dog much better

Does any one drink any soda

Not for me. My doc says no pop ever, and I never really drank much anyway, so it's something I plan to avoid indefinitely.
  17. Lucky, I don't think you sound sad or pathetic. It's a huge lifestyle change, and no matter how much you prepare, you don't know really how it will be until you walk the path. I didn't really know what to expect, and at first, I was worried that I made a mistake. I was surprised that I didn't care about the food, and that I never missed it.....but I was surprised that I still didn't think it was such a great thing i did, either. Now that things have settled down, and I can expand my diet, I am becoming happier with my decision. I enjoy going out to eat and entertaining, and I love that I can eat so little and be satisfied. I can honestly say I don't miss anything or event because of it. I hope that time is a healer for you, and that you will get to the point that you are comfortable with your decision.

LOL, that's funny. And it reminds me of my husband....he does that while watching TV and then swears he's not sleeping!

    No More Advil.....EVER!

One thing for sure, it seems we do have less aches and pains with less weight! However, pain is still inevitable - even if it's a sports injury because we are all so healthy and active I am one who takes NSAIDS every day, though I try to limit it to 400-600 mg once daily. I also have bone on bone in one knee, and walking aggravates it. My surgeon gave me the green llight at about 6 weeks. It's true, NSAIDS are hard on stomachs, regardless of the size. My particular surgeon says never take NSAIDS with RNY, which is one of the main reasons I chose this surgery. I agree with above poster who said it seems to be another area that's carried over from best practice from RNY....but I'm not sure it's accurate. Another alternative is Ultram (tramedol). It's stronger than ibuprophen, but less than Tyleonl #3, and is not supposed to be addictive (though I'm not sure I beleive that, IMO). It's only available with rx, but it is effective.

    Is anyone sorry?

I think it's been covered, but wanted to chime in about the risks. The risk of complication is low, but if you get one, it could be life threatening. If you are the 1 or 2%, then those statistics mean nothing, because now it's 100% all you living with it. I really think it comes down to a risk/benefit analysis, and deciding what your risk tolerance is. I would NOT do this surgery if I didn't have a significant amount of weight to lose, and if I didn't have health issues that could be resolved from it. Now, having said all that, I don't regret the decision for me. I was beginning to get health issues from obesity, and as I was getting older, it was quickly gaining on me. I also couldn't seem to lose weiight any more. Another thing to consider...this isn't magic. You still do the work, though it does make it significantly easier. There is no guarantee that it will work, some people have the surgery and still only lose some of the weight. There are others of us who lose it slower than some. I applaud you for asking this question. It's one form of the research that you should be doing, because reading that the complications are low statistically is way different than hearing from that 1% who actually had a complication and lived to tell about it. I wish all the best as you make this decision.
  23. I think I probably would. I had an abcess post op, was very tired, and felt generally poor for about the first month. That made me realize you can always be the one who gets a serious complication. I've been gradually feeling better, and now at 3 and a half months, I move better and have more energy than I have in a long time. Now my weight loss is really slowing down, so I know it's going to be a long road to get to goal. All in all, I think it was worth it.

    Cost per serving

Yeah, that's a lot! I use the premier shakes from costco. A case of 18 is about $23, or about $1.27 each. I'd still be drinking them even if they were more - they are by far the best, at least for me. I had lots of other stuff, but just couldn't tolerate any of it.

    Droopy under chin

I'm not sure, and I do hope it gets a little better with time. I'm afraid to see what else is going to droop, lol!
