Alcoholism or heavy drinking after being sleeved
taylokat replied to Mommysonadiet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I've been sober for 23 years, 9 months post sleeve surgery. Due to my history I've been very alert to the role my emotions play out with my eating. AA is great, it saved my life, it doesn't cost anything , just a buck in the basket if you can spare it. Lots of support and people to call before you pick up that first drink. -
Does anyone else has this problem?
taylokat replied to ag333's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Who did your surgery? Most surgeons have a support group. They can also help you to get on track! -
Did anyone hide their surgery from family & friends? I have no ride to surgery
taylokat replied to niassy151's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I told only my husband and my 3 kids (teen, young adult). I had my hubby drop me off then made him go to work... I didn't want anybody hovering over me! The next time I saw him was to pick me up. So yes you can take a can there but you will need a person to be responsible for you to go home. The next day my husband went away for 3 days and I was fine. My 14 year old son was home but I was alone, if ya know what I mean! It was fine, it forced me to get up and do things and not be waited on! -

Alcoholism or heavy drinking after being sleeved

I've heard that can be a problem after weight loss surgery because we aren't able to use food to cover our feelings. Was drinking a problem before the sleeve? Have you ever been to AA? -
Have you ever been chastised by another doctor for having weight loss surgery?
taylokat replied to ribearty's topic in Rants & Raves
I had the sleeve 9 months ago and I take NSAIDS once in a while, but I make sure I take them with some food. I've never had a problem. -
Question about co-morbidities?
taylokat replied to webhopper's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Most insurance companies consider co-morbidities to be High BP, high cholesterol, diabetes or sleep apnea. -
I agree it's a problem I never thought I would have! So I do try to put it in perspective. I did have to tell a co worker "Thanks but with friends like you I don't need any enemies". That was in response to her saying "You are withering away to nothing. Your face is all wrinkled, now don't lose anymore weight". Amazing how rude people can be!

Has anyone used the Liquid Protein drops?
taylokat replied to getnfit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
If you look at the ingredients listed, collagen protein is listed first, then whey protein isolate. I was told to look for proteins that list whey protein isolator or soy protein isolate as the first ingredient. Collagen protein is not absorbed as well. Also, this product claims yo be heat stable, but all good proteins will clump at higher temps like the white if an egg will change when heated. Also like cooking hamburger meat...heat changes the consistency, I would be leery of any protein that doesn't change consistency when heated -
I'm having trouble getting a protein source I like. HELP! !

I enjoy Syntrax Nectar Cappuccino. Mixed with 8oz water and 8 oz of skim milk or unsweetened almond milk. Delicious! Also Syntrax Nectar lemon tea with 32 oz water and a crystal light lemonade packet. -
Plain fat free greek yogurt is always handy, along with Syntrax Nectar to go packets. I mix the cappuccino with 8iz water and 8oz of skim milk or unsweetened slobs milk. Delicious!

Treated Different......
taylokat replied to M_Johnson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Sadek did my surgery in a Freehold and D. Dobrushkin assisted him. I only know this because I got a copy of my operative report and it was in there. He never mentioned a 2nd surgeon. He also never told me I had a repair if a hiatal hernia. I thought that was strange but I really have no complaints. -
I was scrolling thru posts and saw this. I was wondering how everything went with your surgery. Why were you disappointed to hear you were having it at Old Bridge Hospital?
-
Fat free foods tend to have lots of sugar, so I would go with the sugar free version.

What can happen? At 12 days post op, lots of bad things can happen. You are in the full liquid stage? I was allowed plain Greek yogurt on full liquids. Try that. I was only able to tolerate about 2oz.

If you go out to eat with someone often times you can order 'add-ons' - like a few shrimp, scallops, or whatever. The perfect thing for us WLS people. Or you could order an appetizer for dinner. I often get shrimp cocktail as a meal. (Can you tell I LOVE shrimp?) Or just get a whole meal, divide it, and take the rest home for another meal or two. But, in my experience, better expensive restaraunts give smaller portions of quality gourmet foods that might come closer to fitting our reduced dietary needs. Enjoy! Many times I order an appetizer and I tell the waiter I want it for my main meal. They've never questioned it. You are right when you say fancier restaurants serve smaller portions but if I order a full regular meal I definitely take it home and if my teenager doesn't scarf it down, I eat it for the next 2 days! -
Help! Protein is killing me!

Nectar Lemon tea is good when mixed with crystal light iced tea. Also nectar Lemonade mixed with crystal light lemonade -
Do your best with the fluids but if you are young and otherwise healthy you should be fine. The dye is excreted thru the kidneys so they want you to flush your system to protect the kidneys. This can be a problem for someone who had pre-existing kidney problems.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
taylokat replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went back on Post op day 10 and had no issues at work. I made sure I sipped water all day. I was on full liquids so I had plain Greek yogurt for lunch and threw half if it out when nobody was looking (Nobody at works knows of my surgery). I made sure when I got home I put my feet up and relaxed. I let the family order dinner for the first week because I had no desire or energy to cook for them! -

Personally I think it would be too thin. I'm 5'10" and 179. My goal is 170. I'm a size 10 pants, medium top. I'm amazed at how good I feel!
