Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

You all are doing so well! I had a really good run on Sunday. I planned on running for 36 minutes, but was so close to 5K that I decided to keep running. It felt great! Then yesterday I had a horrible run. I completely ran out of energy after about 1.8 miles. I had to stop and walk. Then my back started aching and my knee was hurting. It sucked! I'm looking forward to tomorrow's run to see how it goes. Going to try to do extra stretches today to see if I can work out the kink in my back.

Ran for 36 min straight today. Can't believe that just 2 months ago I was only able to run 3 minutes! I was ready to quit a month ago because of knee pain, but thankfully I read something the experts around here (thanks BTB!) had posted that made me rethink my stride length. Major happy dancing today in my new size medium (!!!) sparkle skirt.... I'm finally in the 180s! I've been in the 190s for a month and a half. Only 14 more pounds until I hit goal weight!

    Workout Music

These are my favorites: Say Hey (I Love You) - Michael Franti & Spearhead Clouds - Zach Sobiech Forget You - Cee Lo Green Catch My Breath - Kelly Clarkson Ho Hey - The Lumineers Raise Your Glass - Pink All Summer Long - Kid Rock Some Nights - Fun Carry On - Fun Home - Phillip Phillips Rolling in the Deep - Adele Gone, Gone, Gone - Phillip Phillips Sometimes I use an app that speeds up the songs so they are a set beats per minute, but lately I've been able to keep my pace steady without it, so I just listen to my playlist. Some of the songs are slower. And I have them at the beginning or end of my playlist when I am walking to warm up or cool down.

Awesome job! I'm just a little bit faster at 4.6, but I'm 5'11" so I probably have a longer stride. All of my previous 5Ks were at 4.2. I've read somewhere that you shouldn't worry about speed until you've been running for a year. I'm just happy at this point to be running without pain.

I don't worry too much about speed at this point. When I try to run faster I have a tendency to lengthen my stride and then my knee starts hurting. When I shorten my stride, no knee pain. I ran for 35 minutes straight today. It's weird how at this point I feel like I can keep running at the end without any problem. I'm not out of breath and my legs don't hurt. I know though that adding distance too quickly is how injuries happen, so I'm just enjoying being able to go my planned time. I've been scouting out 10Ks for December. I think I found one close by on Dec 8. That will give me enough time to get my distance up to a 10K.

OMG, the 20 minute run was the toughest! I've done the C25K program 3 times (due to injuries and surgery) and each time I had to repeat that day 3 times before I could make it through it. Just don't give up and slow your pace if you have to. I finished the program and am adding a minute every run. I'm up to 34 minutes of running and feel like I could probably do more, but don't want to add mileage too fast and get injured (had that happen way to many times!). Planning on starting Bridge to 10K in a few weeks. First day is run 10 min walk 1 min repeat 4 times. Anyone else planning on progressing to 10K after you're done with the 5K program?
  11. The types of clothes you are wearing are definitely having an impact on your perception of not being able to see a loss. Here's a good example from my clothes. I have lost 74 pounds and I still wear a 2XL pair of shorts from before surgery. They are super loose and I have to pull the string extra tight, but they are comfy! I needed a new running skirt and I decided to splurge on a sparkle skirt (best running skirts ever!). By their sizing charts I would wear a medium (I don't think I've ever worn a medium!) I decided to trust their measurements and it got here today and it fits!! It looks so small! My brain has still not caught up to my actual size and wearing clothes that are way too big and baggy doesn't help me. These two pics are from today. What a huge difference the right size can make!

I was just looking at his site! Thanks for the info! I'm also running the half marathon for a charity (TAPS, a non-profit that provides assistance to those that have suffered the loss of a military loved one). I posted my link on Facebook a few hours ago and I've already met my first fundraising goal ($500). My company is also matching donations up to $1,000, so I raised my goal to $2,000. I am so excited!

Thanks to this thread and the "100 mile challenge" thread, I've decided to train for a half marathon. My plan is to continue adding a minute to my run time every day until my 5K on Oct 5th, then use the Bridge to 10K app to get me to a 10K distance by the first of December (going to sign up for the Phinley's Holiday 10K in Clearwater, FL. Then I have 12 weeks until the Disney Princess Half Marathon. I think I can, I think I can.... Anyone want to join me?

    FRUSTRATION!

Are you taking your measurements? If not, start! I track mine in MyFitnessPal. I added additional measurements for my arms, breast, ribs, waist, hips, thighs, and calves. It only takes about 5 minutes to do the measurements and I do them just about every week. It is so nice to see how many inches I have lost (53 inches total!), especially on weeks that I don't lose. To setup the measurements, you have to use the website and not the app. Select My Home, then Check-In. At the bottom, click on Track Additional Measurements, then add each one you want to track. Here's a pic from the app and the website.

    FRUSTRATION!

What is your weight and height? You may still have some swelling and gas that is taking up the room that the fat did. You may be the type that loses weight in your upper body first. Eleven is a good amount for two weeks. I would recommend relax and follow your program. I am a big believer that stress can cause stalls. The only thing that you can control is how much you drink (64ou+), how much protein you get (mine is 70g+), and how much exercise you do (30 min+). You can't control how much weight you lose, so don't stress over it! If you follow your program you will lose weight!

    100 mile challenge

I'm up to 10 miles running and 8 miles walking for this week. Had a little setback this week after a fight with my pressure washer (the pressure washer won). Learned an important lesson (always wear shoes when pressure washing). It looks worse than it feels! Still running though.

I finished my C25K program yesterday. I am so thankful that I figured out how to get rid of the nagging knee pain that I've been having at the end of my runs. The 30min run was pretty easy. My plan now is to add 1 min on every run until I'm up to running 3 miles. I think my pace will put me around 40 min. It's amazing that even though I shortened my stride to get rid of the knee pain, my pace has improved because I increased my cadence. I don't feel like I'm struggling to run faster either. I'm really not trying to set any personal records or anything. I just want to be able to run the whole way. My next 5K is the Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run. My first 5K ever (in 2009) was the Royal Family 5K Disney run. I love the Disney runs.
