  1. I have a Kitchenaid KSB560. It's not a blendtec but it makes super smooth smoothies.
  2. The AIP diet eliminates foods that cause inflammation in your body and gut. Most Hashis patients report a decrease in symptoms when they eliminate inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy, nightshades, nuts, and soy. Another huge help in my journey to feel better has been the book, "Stop the Thyroid Madness".
  3. Hi Heather! I have Hashimotos and PCOS as well. My surgery was 1/17/13. I started at 265 and I'm now comfortable at 184 (5'11"). Hashis and PCOS make for slow losses, but they were steady for me. I still have difficulty managing my symptoms so I've been trying to stay on the AIP diet (autoimmune protocol). A big source of support for me is the Hashimotos 911 group on Facebook. I'm available to answer any questions.
  4. Those are the same procedures I want done except I'm not sure if I want implants or just a lift. I'm a runner and have a D cup so I don't want to be any bigger. Are you afraid of having them all done at once? I've talked to my therapist about it and she is advising me to wait until August at least before I look into it (because of other stresses in my life at the moment). I live in Florida, so I didn't want the compression garments in the summer anyway.
  5. If I lost every ounce of fat I would never make it into a 6. My bones and body are just bigger (I'm 5'11). I'm in a 12 now, but might try for 10 more pounds and get into some 10s.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Also remember that C25K is just a training plan. It will get you to the point where you can run a 5K, not necessarily a 5K in 30 min. For example, the half marathon training plan I used only got me up to 11 miles before doing a half. My first 5K I ran the whole way was 45 min! I'm now down to 35 minutes, but I'm still not pushing myself to go faster. I wouldn't worry about speed for your first year of running. Trying to increase speed before you're ready can cause injuries (especially the chronic type like shin splints, plantar facietis, and runners knee) and that's the last thing you need when you first start running.

    spiralling downward... please read

Are you seeing a therapist? I highly recommend it if you aren't. Eating raw oysters less than 2 weeks out is dangerous and I would think that choice alone verges on self-harm. I had to have several months of sessions with my therapist to learn to deal with self-sabotaging behavior.

Do they not make dresses with long sleeves anymore?

I like the short sleeve shrug sweaters they have at a lot of the dress stores. Dress Barn has them. Here's me in one for my husband's company Christmas party:
  9. I'm hope that someone can help answer this question. Can the plastic surgeon determine what your weight should be when you have surgery or maybe by looking at you that you don't need to lose any more weight? I have read a post somewhere on here that the surgeon wanted them to be at a certain fat %. It may have been because they wanted procedures to transfer fat to another location though. The procedures I want are a neck lift, breast lift, arms, and tummy tuck (or LBL, not sure yet). I'm 5'11" and 181. I did a body analysis and my lean body weight is 133. The lowest I can remember ever being was 155. My goal weight is 175, but it was just an arbitrary number I decided on, it was not given to me by a doctor. I've been stuck and bouncing around the lower 180's since September. I've been running a lot and really having a hard time balancing my need to eat enough for energy to run and the amount I need to eat to lose 6 pounds to get to goal weight.

Started C25K in Feb 2013 and this thread was a great source of information and support (surgery was 1/13). Did my 3rd half marathon today (OKC Memorial). It's awesome to see how far I've come and it was great to have my family there to celebrate. For those of you starting out... Anything is possible if you persevere. I'm 48 and have a bad knee, but I run using the Chi running style and wear zero drop shoes. I run slow but I can run the whole 13 miles now.
  11. You look awesome GG! Miss you around here.

    tall female sleevers...

    I'm 5'11" and 184. I'm 9 pounds from my goal.
  13. Forgot to add my height. 5'10.5"
  14. Here are mine. Very similar stats. I have 10 pounds to goal and have been holding steady while training for 1/2s. Would like the scale to start moving again, but struggling with eating enough for running versus losing weight. I'm a bit anal as well on the stats. I weighed in and measured every Thursday, but haven't been measuring much since January as everything is staying the same. I tracked everything in MyFitnessPal (you can add custom fields).

    Disney Fit Challenge

There's a new fitness event at Disney! https://www.espnwwos.com/events/competitive-sports/disney-fit-challenge/ Sounds like a lot of fun!
  16. I just started using the Pact app. It lets you set a goal for number of times you will exercise in a week (it also has goals for logging food and eating vegetables). If you meet your goal, you get a reward from .35 to $5, depending on how many people did not meet their goal. You set the amount if you don't do the exercise. The punishment is from $5 up. I'm going to try it for a few weeks to see if it helps get me motivated and to see how well it works. I do pretty good on exercise, so maybe if it works I'll try the logging incentive for a week or two. Anyone else using it?

    Pact -- Earn $ for exercise - Lose $ if you don't

Based on the reward amounts, I think that about 1 in 6 users miss one workout. My reward for last week was 78 cents. Thinking about increasing my workouts to 3 per week to see if the earnings increase.

There have been quite a few on this thread that have made it through the program and were able to run a 5K. I got addicted to running and have been challenging myself to go further. All training programs do is get you to the point of running the whole race. The C25K apps will get you to 30 min of running. If you're on the slow side (like me), you might need to keep adding minutes at the end to feel ready. My first 5K took me 45 min, so I wasn't ready when I finished the program, but I kept on training and adding in a minute or two per week until I could run the whole race. My next one was 38 min and the next was 36 min. My half marathon training plan only went to 10 miles. I didn't feel I could run the whole 13 miles, so I added another 11 mile run before my half. When I ran my first half I was able to run the whole thing even though I hadn't run a half in practice. Your adrenaline will enable you to push yourself through. As long as you stay at a maintainable pace, your body can push through and finish.

Hair Loss - A Harsh Reality. Picture of Loss.

Mine looked about the same as yours. Big clumps every day from 3 months to 7 months. I gave up in month 5 and cut my hair off and lightened it. In month 7 I started researching wigs because I was starting to get desperate, but then I noticed a few baby hairs coming in. Now at 1 year+, my hair is finally back to the thickness it was before surgery.

When I started in February 2013 my pace was around 4.2. Don't worry about how fast you're running until you've been running for a year. My pace naturally started increasing as I lost weight and ran further distances. I'm still pretty slow at around 5.2/5.4, but I think I do okay for a 48-yr old with a bad knee and an autoimmune disorder. My only goals have been distance related (5K, 10K, and half). As you're doing the C25K program, if you're having trouble completing a day because you run out of breath, slow down! If you can't complete because you run out of energy, make sure you figure out what's best for you to eat before running. If you can't complete because your legs are sore, change your stride (look at Chi running videos on YouTube). Never be afraid to repeat a day or even a week. The key to the program is persistence. Even those of us that have been running for a year have bad runs. I had one on Sunday. I think it was the heat and over-dressing, but I bonked (couldn't run another step) at about 4 miles. My planned run for the day was 6-7 miles. I didn't beat myself up over it, I just kept on and walked the rest. I'll make sure next time to check the temp on the beach (it was 10 degrees warmer) and take clothes with me in case I need to change.

It's a service where you make a pact to exercise a certain number of days a week. You set an amount you will lose per day if you don't fulfill your pact. The minimum is $5. All the $ from the users that don't fulfill their pact get put into a pot and those that fulfill their pact split the money. This is my second week. The first week I made 82 cents. Losing the $5 is much more motivating to me. They also have 2 other types of pacts, a veggie/fruit eating pact and a food logging pact.

Vets help. I am losing my hair

Hashimotos is an autoimmune disorder, so the TPO test actually test for TPO antibodies. Most docs will only test TSH and it can be normal while TPO antibodies are elevated. Other symptoms are losing the outer portion of your eyebrows, inability to lose weight, fatigue, puffy face, insomnia, cold extremities, and about 100 others. Research is now showing that over 90% of those diagnosed hypothyroid actually have Hashimotos.

The miles in comparison to my Garmin are pretty accurate. They are always within .03 miles. I still use both because I carry my phone and I like the voice coaching on mapMyRun. MapMyRun also works with the Pact app (aka GymPact) which I use for workout motivation.

I have runner friends that are constantly losing toenails and they have shoes that fit. It can be caused by a fungal infection, so make sure you get checked if you've had any discoloration. Nail separation is a little known symptom of hyperthyroidism. My first symptom the my dose is too high is my fingernails start to separate from the nail bed.

    Pact -- Earn $ for exercise - Lose $ if you don't

I received my first $$ today for completing my first week Pact. I earned 82 cents for two days of exercise! If I keep it up I'll make $42 in a year! Woo woo! Also, I can't cash out until I get $10 in my account, which will take another 11 weeks. Also, rewards may vary based on how many people lose their Pact for the week. The app is definitely more a punishment system than a reward system. I'm not going to walk a block for 82 cents, but I will do my 30 minutes of exercise to keep from paying my $5 punishment. So far, so good. Not going to push it yet and go for 3 days of exercise. I've got too much work to do in the next few weeks to commit.
