Second time in San Jose. I love it and wish I could afford to move here. My son absolutely loves the camp. He's been talking nonstop about it every night.

    post op soda

I was ADDICTED to diet soda. I know that like any addict if I were to take a sip, next time it would be two sips and then pretty soon I would be up to a couple cans a day. I would let it replace the heathy water I drink. I made a choice to have 85% of my stomach removed so that I can live a healthier life and be there for my son and hopefully future grandkids. Making a decision to start drinking diet soda is not a healthy choice for me. There are studies that show that diet sodas are just as detrimental to insulin regulation as sugar.

    noise from the misection?

It's normal to have increased stomach noises. Your stomach is a lot smaller, but your body doesn't know that yet, so you may have extra stomach juices or even saliva that fills your stomach and makes it gurgle and make funny noises.

You have an incredible memory! Did you see her interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN? Btw... I'm visiting your part of the country this week. In San Jose for a conference. Wish I didn't have a cold so I could get out and enjoy the sights!

Just bought a Nordic Track x9i off of Craigslist. It had less than 25 miles on it. Got an incredible deal. It's extremely sturdy.

    TOTAL DISBELIEF

That is such an awesome accomplishment! I can't wait until I get to weigh on one of those medical scales again. All my docs so far have digital. I used to not be able to stand that moment when you get on the scale and you can tell that they are guessing where to start where it's not so low that it's silly, but not so high that it's offensive. I had a male nurse (and a good looking one at that!) weigh me in at my ENT doc before I had surgery. He started at 150 (!) and kept going up and up. When he stopped at 270, I could tell he was shocked. He said I don't know where you're hiding it and I said I carry bricks in my pockets. Seriously, I wanted to run and hide. I hate weighing in on those scales!
  10. You are losing 4.5 lbs a week. That is not slow. How old are you and how tall?

    Pain medicine coming home?

Sure! You can buy many pain killers OTC. As long as you don't buy so many that it appears you're dealing, you'll be ok. My doc gave me two sample packs (6/pk) of a sublingual Toradol and it was enough for my recovery.

    Gabapentin

My rheumatologist switched me to it yesterday. My new insurance won't pay for Cymbalta, which I'm on for fibromyalgia. Anyone have side effects from it?

    Training and sick (mild cold)

I've read somewhere that if it's above your neck you can still train, but below your neck you should rest. Either way, if you're running a fever you should rest and get plenty of fluids. Hope you feel better soon!

Those are beautiful! I'm jealous that you fit in cool women's shoes! I've got big ole feet and have to wear men's Brooks, which don't have any cool styles.

Here's a few websites for hydration: http://running.about.com/od/nutritionandhydration/a/hydration101.htm http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/features/water-for-exercise-fitness http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_articles.asp?id=101 All of them are a little different but the minimum I've read is 2 cups per pound lost during exercise.

Way to go! Make sure to drink extra water. A good rule is to weigh yourself before and after. Drink 2 cups for every pound lost. When I run in the heat I usually lose at least 2 pounds, so I have to drink an extra 32 ounces of water. That is in addition to the 64 ounces that you should be drinking every day.
  19. It's very difficult to get pregnant with PCOS, but not impossible. WLS improves the condition, but won't cure it.
  20. Have you been checked for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)? Lack of periods and weight gain are symptoms.

Now that I have a treadmill, I wear compression shorts and a running bra and that's all.

    Who has actually reached goal?

I've reached over 60% (60lbs of 95 I want to lose) at <5months from surgery. I'm still losing 1-2lbs a week. I am determined to make it to 100% through exercise and changing what I eat. I think the 60% number is what is relatively easy to lose and the rest you really have to work to get it.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

I fell off the wagon for a week, so I stepped back to C25K week 7. I had started bridge to 10k, but the longer time was too much for what I'm eating in a day. I didn't want to increase my food intake and have my rate of weight loss go all wonky. I also want to try to increase my speed a bit so I'm going to repeat this same day for a few weeks and increase my speed by .1 every run until I get to where I can maintain a pace under 12min/mile.
