Heres a link to the IRS publication: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Publication-502,-Medical-and-Dental-Expenses-1
  2. Have you tried going gluten free? Graves is an autoimmune disorder and a lot of research I've been reading lately shows that autoimmune thyroid disorders can be helped by going gluten free. A good book to read is "Stop the Thyroid Madness."

    October 100 Mile Challange!

Ran for 4.5 miles today without stopping. I still can't believe I'm able to run that far. In July I was only able to run 3 minutes without stopping, today's run was 1 hour. So far this month: Run: 15.5 (goal 60) Walk: 18.5 (goal 40) Bike: 5 (goal 50) Total: 39

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

It's really hard to find a compatible running buddy. It always seems like you always have to give up something to make it work. I found a running buddy on Facebook though that actually seems like we both will get something out of it. She's faster than me by about a minute per mile, but I can run quite a bit further. We're trying to meet up once a week to run. She pushes me to go faster and I push her to keep running. So far it's working, but not sure about the long term as I'm planning on training to run a half and she's going to be okay with intervals. We'll see how it goes.

It was in the forest behind the Disney ESPN Sports Center. Most of the Disney runs are through the parks though.

  8. I think it depends on how your body processes Vit D. I was on a prescription strength 100,000IU a week for several months. I've been on 50,000IU every other week for several years and my level is barely normal. I've recently added 5,000IU a day to try to get my levels up to where I stop having body aches. My levels are still low because my body doesn't process it correctly. I don't think 1,600IU per day is that much. It takes 50,000IU daily over several months to build up a toxicity (source: Mayo Clinic).

Ran the Disney Happy Haunted Trails 5K today. Even though it was a trail run and I had to dodge and weave around the walkers, I still set a PR of 37:40. Feeling pretty good today, no pain or fatigue. Next run will be a 4.25 run Tuesday morning. Hope you all, have a good weekend!

I took my bike in for servicing and ended up trading it in on a new bike for my 75 pound reward. Going to use it for cross training as I increase my running mileage. So far this month: Run: 8 (goal 60) Walk: 7 (goal 40) Bike: 0 (goal 50) Total: 15

Definitely too fast for a beginner. You want to run at a speed where you can still have a conversation. A 5mph pace at 1% is equivalent to an 11:44 mile. When I first started running I was around a 14:00 mile. I am slow, but I ran for 50 minutes this morning without stopping. My pace was in the high 12:00s and I was thrilled with that. Work on distance and endurance before you worry about how fast you run.

There's not another thread that I know of and it was encouraging when I first started to see people that had started with C25K go on to achieve longer distances and/or faster times. I ran 4 miles this morning in 52 minutes. Pace was 12:58. Looking forward to the Disney Haunted Trails 5K on Saturday. I'm looking for a 10K race for November.

That is awesome that you're back. Persistence is the key! I had to take the month off in June. I started back on week 3 in July, then was able to skip a few days here and there because I was in better shape the second time around. I'm up to running 47 minutes straight now and adding a minute every run. I was going to start Bridge to 10K next week, but I'm going to do Hal Higdons half marathon training plan instead. My first 5K race since I started over is Saturday at Disney World. Can't wait!
