  1. ok I am kinda rushing it I think. I feel like I run out of time each day getting fluids in because of the half needing to be Water. I stay up late to get it all in!! Thanks

What do you mean half? I'm struggling to get 64 oz of Water ea day. Finally able to handle all temperatures but small sips is all I can manage and only of flavored drinks. 2 oz every 15 mins is VERY difficult. I can't do anything else. I have to eat every three hours between 7 and 7. I have to stop drinking 20 minutes before and can't drink an hour after and it takes me a good 20-30 mins to eat. I usually take one small nap since I'm only 6 days post-op, and I've been going to bed by 9. Last night I had my first battle with being sick. Fortunately I didn't throw up, but I over-did my day. Went shopping with a girl-friend then remembered I had to take my Mom to wal-mart. A 7 hour outing. I had Soup from a local deli that was sweet enough to strain it and measure it. A McDonald's snack size yogurt- sans the fruit or granola because I didn't pack a lunch. My besto was proud of me for finding options while out, but my body hated me last night. All day I was sipping propel but I went to bed with just 40 oz yesterday. I want to go back to work week after next - I'm hoping this part is better or I'm going to have to figure out a hands free method of drinking lol.

  2. I have a full size labradoodle who spent every moment possible in bed with me! He lays right up next to me - just another kid as far as I am concerned! He did happen to be groomed 3 days before my surgery and he does not shed. I just can't see the infection worry unless you were uncovering your incisions and purposefully expose them to unsanitary conditions.

Yeah - I find it silly now too. They just made a statement in the preop class about it and asked who had pets sleeping with them. When I said me, they advised to send him to a friend's for three weeks. Totally not hoing to happen. He'd have a cow. He'd find his way home by escaping and making the trek. So I just wanted to be sure nothing was so horrible about it.

  3. My 70lb sweetheart slept with me when I was home recovering. No infection to report. I say do as you wish.

And just for good measure- there is my pretty girl.

I adore shepherds. I had one when I was very young. I couldn't have her inside due to allergies. I have to stick to the hypo-allergenic breeds now because I firmly believe dogs belong inside. I'm doing fine - my incisions are starting to itch a bit but I think that's normal.

  4. Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I went for a car ride with him yesterday and he jumped up on me getting a side incision. Fortunately I was okay - just stung a bit. He only jumps on me when I'm sitting, never when we're in bed. I've guarded my lap with a bariatric stuffed moose i was given in the hospital. He has been trained well to sleep at my feet. Whenever my bf sleeps over and anything goes on he goes to his bed on the floor. He's well trained.

  5. So I was told that my sweet 9 year old baby who has been sleeping with me since he was 2 months old couldn't sleep with me for three weeks post-op. It's okay if he doesn't see me go to bed and someone else allows him in their bed, but its also hard for me to not sleep with him. He's a sweet comfort and a natural foot warmer. Do you think the risk for infection is that bad

that I should keep him out?

  6. You're probably just extra swollen after the surgery' date=' it will get better soon, but in the mean time, experiment with different temperatures like others have suggested. Also, for some reason a lot of us find that plain Water is harder to drink that Water with something in it - tea (non-caffeinated), crystal light, etc. I was always a big water drinker pre-op (gave me that full feeling), and I never put anything in it. I hated artificial sweeteners. But, just a little bit in my water post-op made it easier to get down. It's not the flavor, I read it has something to do with changing the viscosity of the liquid. Now I carry a little squirt bottle of Mio everywhere, though at 18 months I'm beginning to transition back to plain water. For the longest time it just kind of went "kerplunk" in my tummy.

I think you're fine with tea as long as it's herbal - it's the caffeine that dehydrates you, and black teas can be more acidic and harder on your healing tummy too.[/quote']

This sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Like a cracker that went down sodeways. I have done my chewable Vitamins with no issues. It's the cold water that's the issue. I'm doing better with the herbal tea.

  7. Good morning all. The surgery went well. I was released from the hospital about 26 hours after coming out of recovery. Walking helps a lot. I walked as often as I could. The worst pain was on the second day. Felt like I did 1000 crunches. It has subsided this morning. The most disgusting thing was the stuff I was coughing up. They intibated me and it caused some trauma. I asked the nurse practitioner and she said the color was normal. When I blew my nose today it was similar. I have small airways though so I hope no one else deals with that. If you do don't freak out if you see blood. Going #2 was a big deal. I'm switching to liquid tylenol today. Trying to get away from the oxycodone. We'll see how well I do. Good luck to everyone. Prayers were much appreciated.
